Chapter One: A Strange Message
He really shouldn't have been out on a night like this, the wind was howling ominously, and rain slashed out against his young face. His Uncle had given Aridon a curious message that night of his death. He spoke, "Within lies a power untouched, inside the stone you will find the source. Go with great haste to the Rock Dome. This is where you will find the answer." He then had handed Aridon a simple leather satchel. Along with an old map in the ancient writing of Linu. Aridon had asked to see what his Uncle was speaking about, but his Uncle warned him. "Do not open it, for inside it contains a power unknown, it will draw the serpents in." Those had been his last words.
And now Aridon was making his way down an old untraveled rode with a sack on his back with some edibles. On each side of the rode there were gnarled and twisted trees with snaking vines up and down the grey bark. His black cloak blended in with the dark night. Suddenly he heard a rumbling. At first, he thought it was thunder, but as it got louder and louder he realized it was not. He looked behind him just in time to see a rider in black from head to toe. Aridon dove out of the way right as a swift horse galloped past. Aridon brushed the leaves off his cloak and scrambled back onto the road. He could hear the horse hooves fading away into the wooded sounds, the mellow sound of the hawk, and the piercing sound of the crow. He walked cautiously down the road, for he had no interest in being trampled by an unmindful horse and rider. A full moon brightened his surroundings, and he was able to see that the road turned into a small path that wound deep into the woods. He walked down the path a distance more and came to a clearing. It was late and since he really didn't feel like traveling anymore, decided to stop for the night. He opened his sack and brought out a slice of bread and some water. After he had had his fill he wrapped himself in his cloak and lay down. His thoughts then wandered off to the map, what was inscriptions in gold lettering? He carefully unlatched the satchel and brought out the map, right as he was unfolding it, he felt like he was being drained suddenly of his precious life. His vision was hazy, then there was a violent crack, sounding as loud as thunder in his ears. He could see more clearly now as if he was being brought out of some mist. He saw a faint green glow ahead of him. There was a hissing sound coming from all around him. He saw the source of the noise, snakes surrounded, him, they came out of an oozing green marsh that bubbled with steam. The snakes were jet black and as tall as a house. They came at him with darting jerky movements, as if they were being controlled by something else. As if something was drawing them. Then Aridon remembered his Uncle's last words. "Do not open it, for inside it contains a power unknown, it will draw the serpents in." The map, that's what they were after. The map was somehow drawing them. He quickly snapped the map shut, and instantaneously that dying feeling returned. It only lasted for a fraction of a second, then he was back in the quiet wood, with the hawk flying above him and the gentle breeze stirring the fall leaves. A dream, it was only a dream. He looked down to his hand and saw the map laying there in the palm of his shaking hand. Or had it been a dream? It sure felt real. He tucked the map back into the leather satchel. Aridon laid his weary head against a tree. His eyelids felt heavy with sleep. The crickets made a gentle chirping, then, he was snoring peacefully. The crickets were not the only ones aware of the exhausted traveler, the hawk circled above the tree tops, peering down on her prey.

Aridon woke up to the gentle cry of the morning dove. Aridon stretched himself and lazily glanced around him. Then he saw something that startled him. A girl of his own age leaned casually against a large tree, not 10 feet from where he lay. He spoke, "Why hello, what are you doing out here?"
Aridon sat up in surprise.
