Why... Does everything..... Hurt...? You thought groggily as you opened your eyes and squinted up at the ceiling of your room.

...

Your ROOM?!

Sitting straight up with a gasp, your eyes dart wildly around the space. Before the adrenaline leaves your body like teasing a cat with a feather on a string and making you flop back down on the soft mattress.

The feeling of pins and needles erupting across your arms, legs, and basically everywhere else. The headache increased in intensity, reaching stomach-churning heights, and your vision fuzzed over sending your head into a dizzy tizzy.

Overall a very, very unpleasant feeling.

"(Y/n)?"

You looked over to your door where a fuzzy figure stood, you couldn't see their features, but they started towards you.

As they got closer you saw a green sweater with one yellow stripe across the middle. Chara.

You smiled and squinted your eyes as they started to focus. You slowly began easing up to a sitting position but Chara quickly clambered on the bed and hugged you before you could get very far.

"Thank goodness you're okay.." She mumbled. You took a deep breath and hugged her back as you managed to sit up.

Chara climbed onto your lap as your wings unfurled. The muscles felt stiff so you slowly stretched them but instantly winced harshly to an intense pain that flared up in your right wing.

"(Y/n)?! What's wrong?" Chara exclaimed in alarm.

The pain was in the inner joint and turned everything around it kinda numb. Your headache made your arms slow and heavy, but you still raised your left arm to your temple then forced through the pain in your wing to stretch it out. It didn't work, since a yelp escaped your mouth. You pulled in your wing so what felt like hot fire lessened a tiny bit.

"Charlie horse" You groaned out.

As you said that, your crystal flickered a bit and an (F/c) tendril sluggishly swirled out and merged with the feathers. The only time you had charlie horses, or that intense pain in the joint, was if you were laying directly onto your wings with them not being properly folded.

Chara looked at the faintly glowing joint and bit her lip.

"Are you gonna be okay?" You chuckled a little

"Yes Chara, I'll be fine... By the way, how did I get here?"

"Oh! Sans brought you back. He said you were fighting a big dragon that was actually Warrior" Chara shuddered and her feather necklace fluttered up with the movement.

Rubbing your temple a little more, your vision cleared up and you looked at Chara's big brown eyes, she looked like she was tracing something on your face.

"Is something wrong Chara?" The girl snapped away from whatever she was staring at and folded her lips into her mouth.

"Well... There's this tattoo on your face that I've never seen before..." You blinked.

"Huh?" You instinctively raised your hand to the left side of your cheek and were surprised as you felt around that a pattern on your skin was much smoother than the rest.

"It's also on your arm" Chara noted.

You looked down and saw that she was right. The arm that you had been messaging with had strange swirls and marks all along it, they curled all along to your fingertips and up to your collar bone.

"What the.." You whispered.

Looking around, you couldn't find a mirror or something mirror-like so forgetting about the firey pain that was in your wing for a moment, you brought your legs around the side of the bed and tried standing up.

"(Y/n)? Where are you going?" asked Chara

"The Bath-ROOM" You were cut off by stumbling and nearly falling to the floor after you put your weight onto your feet.

Staying still for a few moments, your legs and arms spread out, fingers splayed with preparation of a fall. Chara had an arm stretched out too. You took a deep breath as the adrenaline faded and took a step forward.

And ended up falling anyways.

After you got up and had a bit of help from Chara, you were able to enter the bathroom.

As you looked into the mirror, you gripped the side of the sink with your right hand, then lifted the left up to your face to see the extent of the strange markings adorning your left cheek as well. They glittered with a royal purple hue, the sheer energy emitting from them was enough to make your head spin. And yet, you stared at them with an almost angry expression.

Did Warrior do this to you?

The more you studied the markings in the mirror, the more you started to realize that it wasn't Warrior's doing. Rather, it was someone else's... But for the life of Irene, you couldn't figure out who.

The last thing you remember is being in that glass box with Cain's machine that he said its original purpose was for hands-off dislocation of limbs, for interrogation. A powerful surge of magick, then nothing until waking up to your room ceiling.

As you watched the strange markings shimmer in the bathroom light, your eyes widened as a memory slapped you in the face.

~

"I said that I am perfectly capable to handle myself" She boomed, her voice echoing over the vast field, making it sound like multiple people were speaking.

"I know what I can do, what you need to worry about is if you to help me or not" You froze.

What should you say?

...

"Could you repeat that?"

The girl blinked. Her silver eyes reverting back to the amethyst in an instant. Though she was still in the different outfit.

"I said that you need to decide whether you will help me or not." She restated, her voice had toned down on the echo, but it was still carrying across the grasslands.

"Oh..." You looked down at the ground, scrunching your eyebrows.

"Sure... I don't want somebody else without experience battling Warrior" You looked up at the girl and found her smiling.

She drifted towards you.

"Unfortunately you are not the only person who has experience with her." She explained "However, you are the only one who'd be her best match. She mirrored her form to yours in the beginning."

You gulped, remembering the time Cain shackled you to the cell after you saved Sophie and confessed to Sans.

"So, what do I do?"  You took a deep breath and the girl nodded

She clasped her hands together then brought them apart, a string of Magick appeared between them and snapped releasing a lighting effect that crackled for a few seconds then smoothed out to passive swirls.

"I will give you a sample of my power, I can't enter your world without tearing it to shreds otherwise I'd do this myself. But all you have to do is hit her with it and Bada-bing bada-boom she'll be yanked out of your world forever and I can deal with her here."

You raised an eyebrow "Why would my world tear apart if you entered it?"

The girl blinked.

"Because... The Shadows claimed it as theirs temporarily so my very presence would send them into a catastrophic frenzy that would destabilize your Earth's crust and to put it simply the end of the world would happen in seconds."

Now it was your turn to blink.

"So wouldn't your power have the same effect?"

"No, because it's not me, my magick will disguise itself as yours. Warrior knows your aura and thus is not threatened by it... I'm sorry to say"

You huffed.

"That seems a little convenient" The girl laughed.

"Well, another reason would be no one world can handle the presence of two indestructible beings. To much Magick is involved, the Anti-Void or Void are the only two places me and Shad can really fight head-on"

"Shad?" You asked with a raised eyebrow, the girl smiled sheepishly and put her hand behind her neck.

"Ehhh I'm working on it." You couldn't help but snort.

"So, how am I going to get a bit of your Magick?"

The girl was weaving the swirls in an intricate manner with her remaining hand when you said that, her smile beamed and she twirled it to get free of the swirls.

"That's what this is! All I need for you is to choose where you want it" You pursed your lips

"I've been given a lot of choices, why?" The girl shrugged.

"Because I can't decide anything for the life of me."

"Well... Okay" Your wings ruffled a little bit and a thought came to you

"You mentioned before that you could take away my extras and magick, how would you be able to do that?" The girl nodded.

"Ah well, you see, uh.." She pursed her mouth and looked at the ground.

"This is gonna take a lot of explaining.." She mumbled. "Okay, first things first. You know that the machine Cain made and was about to zap you with before you let go was originally going to be used as a torture device right?"

You nodded uncertainly.

"Well, I should tell you that he kinda refused at first." Your eyebrows knitted together

"What?!"

"Hang on, hang on, let me explain" The girl raised her hands in a 'slow down' motion.

"He didn't want to make something like that because 1. It was against his what was left of his moral code back then and 2." She took a deep breath.

"He wasn't sure how to explain something like that to your mother or you and your siblings. So he hid away to work on it. But of course, you saw the animals his bosses brought in for him to test the invention."

Your eyes widened. Some things started to click together.

"He was just... Scared?" The girl smiled

"As are most humans when they don't want to hurt the ones they love."

"He didn't love us after that though," You said coldly. The girl's smile turned soft.

"Are you sure about that? After you became what you are today he thought the only way to keep you with him was to keep you a secret. He had you shoot that target over and over again so he could gather information neither of you had. But I knew it all" Your eyes darkened and you had to take a breath to stay calm.

"What do you mean?"

"I was the one who gave you magick in the first place"

Your eyes widened.

"WHAT?!" Stepping forward you clenched a fist. The girl calmly kept her hand underneath the swirls of magick, and spoke before you could say anything else.

"When that machine 'gave' you the wings, tail, and ears they were only mass blobs of radioactive waves. Cause that's all Cain could muster up from it, he hadn't learned how to mold that beam into a specific spot and effectively program it how it was meant to be used.

"Because of this, you were going to die. By this time, I had figured out where the Shadows had hidden. In this universe. But I had no idea which one it would manifest in, until I found your timeline.

"I picked you because of your unique circumstances, and I knew that the Shadows would take kindly to your father. So I saved you, in a dream not unlike this one, I offered my hand and gave you a start to a new life. The radioactivity turned into your extras and your crystal became your source of power, not your soul."

"What do you mean 'Take kindly to my father'" You asked.

"I mean that they would, and have, taken kindly to him" She replied.

"You will have to ask him yourself"

~

You gasped and gripped the sink with both hands, panting. Glancing down at the glowing marks, your head started to clear.

"That Mysterious Girl..." You mumbled.

"(Y/n)?" Chara asked beside you "What happened?"

You looked at her and looking into her curious eyes you felt a strong sense of protectiveness. You brought her into this world from one of darkness. You had done the same for Gaster, Asriel, and Mel.

You were gonna protect them. Protect them all because you've worked to dang hard to let everything just get messed up because some goth decided to hijack your life.

You've survived Cain. Gloria. Jayden.

You sure as life on this green Earth could survive Warrior.

CAIN

Ow.

Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow.

I winced as I tried to sit up from a pile of rubble. Dust clung to me like hair on a wool-knit sweater. Of which I was the unlucky party to be wearing.

An explosion was not part of this plan.

Well... To be fair neither was being betrayed...

And... Neither was (Y/n) getting that- that- whatever that was...

(Y/n)...

I sighed, stopping my hand from vainly swiping at my sweater.

I messed up. This wasn't supposed to happen. None of it was. Not Warrior becoming uncontrollable, turning into that dragon thing. Not having enough control over the other Cowls.

Not... Failing...
I did a quick glance around me and when I saw no signs of life I shivered and dropped my shoulders.

"I'm so sorry daughter..." I mumbled to the wind.

Really I should've expected this, with everything I've done, of course it would blow up the way it did. Now, Warrior probably wants me dead, and not the fake kind I pulled years ago. Well, I guess she'll have to wait in line with the others.

Groaning, I slowly shifted out of the pile of rubble I was semi-buried in. The rock and tile clinked together as I got to my feet, I ran a hand through my greying hair, trying to get it out of my eyes, the overgrown frayed locks just fell back down to just below my eyelashes where it was the most irritating.

I huffed and grimaced. I shuffled over to a giant chunk of a wall and surveyed where I was.

I blinked. From where I stood, I could see the amount of damage that the explosion had done.

There was a crater about the size of a basketball field, littered with plots of melted snow, as if a battle took place. Which, I guess was the case between Warrior and (Y/n). One problem though...

Where were they now?

I scanned the entirety of the crater for any signs, when I didn't see any, I looked up to the Lab. The giant hole took up both floors, the basement, and offices. I didn't see any movement, so I did the stupid thing.

I walked towards it.

I slid slowly down the side of the crater and walked across it, avoiding the spots of no snow, and climbed a pile next to a crack that was big enough for me to slide through. Which led into a room filled with supplies.

This was the room I kept Warrior in when I first met her. Training her. Was she planning to betray me even then? Was it all an act? Just to get to (Y/n)?

I walked over to the door about to open it when I heard several pairs of footsteps coming down the hallway. Stopping completely, and holding my breath my eyes widened at the presence I felt.

Warrior.

She was still alive. Did- Did that mean that (Y/n)...?

A roar of complete and utter rage reverberated through the walls and vibrated my entire skeletal structure. I saw the wall connecting the door start to spiderweb crack, like someone had punched the room beside this one. And the damage was spreading.

I silently gulped.

"I... AM.... DONE.... WITH THESE GAMES..." Her voice panted out, sounding like multiple people of varying inflections.

"I HAVE BEEN HOLDING BACK. WELL NO LONGER" I could physically feel the air around me shift, feeling dark and heavy.

Another punch and another crack later a sliver of light was passing through the wall, and when I crept closer to it, I could see into the bright room. In the center was Warrior, tattered, torn, and looking more beat up then I had ever seen her.

Her back was to me, but I watched as her knees met the floor, head down and wings folded. Then, they started to wither, the feathers shriveled up and fell off, leaving black leathery skin. A dark symbol of unknown origin dimly glowed underneath her. Warrior slowly stood, her bones snapped and cracked as her posture grew. In place of her cat ears was a pair of twisted horns that curled around the sides of her head like a mountain goat.

Warrior silently stepped back and gestured to the symbol still dimly lit on the floor, looking like it was burned into the cheap thin carpet. A canister materialized from where she had stood,  it looked like a cylinder carved from black marble. It had an entrance that looked like it would perfectly fit Warrior. I heard her hum in that multiplied voice.

"This will do nicely" I heard her say. "Now that the moronic mortal is done with. I no longer have to tip-toe around his precious games" I heard her chuckle, then take a wheezy breath.

"Why am I speaking to you? You can't hear anything" I saw her knock against the canister, it echoed out dully. Like it carried something, but at the same time, it didn't.

Another chuckle and then Warrior groaned. She walked forward and entered the cylinder. A sheen of some kind of shiny alloy covered the entrance. She pivoted inside it, and I watched with horrified eyes as her wounds began to heal.

"Number 12" She commanded. Her voice was surprisingly not muffled at all and rang clearly.

Soon enough, a Cowl with Lynx ears and Burrowing Owl wings entered the room, his green t-shirt was scorched, and one of his shoes was missing.

"Your actual name is Jayden correct?" Warrior demanded. The Cowl nodded.

"Do you have any relation to some girl named (Y/n)?" The Cowl once again nodded, I scrunted my eyebrows. What?

"Speak"

"A girl I had a relation to was named (Y/n) (L/n). I was her ex. After her father faked his death I met her and used her. She once smacked me in the face with a frying pan." The Cowl, Jayden, spoke in a very robot-like monotone.

And.. he's her EX?!

Warrior guffawed at the last part that Jayden said.

"Did she?! That is rich. Well, I'll make sure to keep her from any kitchen appliances when I fight her the final time. Leave."

Jayden left without another word. I wasn't able to see his face, but I racked my brain for how he had come to the Lab. But nothing came up.

Wait... Did she say the final time? As in... (Y/n)'s still ALIVE?!

A light feeling I haven't experienced in forever ignited in my heart. I realized with a shock that it was hope. I closed my eyes and came to the realization that Warrior had much more planned then I could've imagined.

I have to warn (Y/n).

Sure, maybe it's just a ploy to see her again. But I... have to try to fix what I've messed up. If she denies me then I'll walk away, knowing that at least I had done all I could do.

If I extend an olive branch and she burns it I'll take the hint. But I still have to try.

Curling my hand into a fist I swiftly push myself away from the wall and back out the crack I had come from.

Only to come face to face with a patrolling Cowl.

Their eyes were black with three sickly green dots as what I would assume as pupils. The thing was, as soon as the eyes locked on me, the green dots turned red and I scowled. Taking that as my cue to run the heck out of there.

So I did. I turned around the corner where an Owl Claw punctured it, inches from my face. I flinched and ran down the packed dirt path. Breathing was already getting difficult but I pressed on until I tripped on a loose rock and tumbled down the rest of the way.

I managed to get on my back and slide that way, I couldn't steer though, and I only stopped because I skidded right into a snowbank. Snow reached to my knees, the cold already seeping through my pants. I grunted, trying to get them out but in my movement, I shook the tree beside me and a load of snow landed right on top of me from its branches.

"Great..." I said grumpily.

~*~

As I was walking through the trees, I was still shaking snow from my lab coat sleeves, it took way too much time getting out of that pile.

"Frizz Nack Pomegranates it's cold...."

I froze. That voice... why was it familiar?

...

(Y/n)?

No, no it was much older...

I took another step, but this time in the direction of the voice. Normally I'd walk away but this was bugging me in the worse way possible.

As I neared the second pair of footsteps, I heard her speak again.

"I hope she got out all right..." Her voice dwindled to a mumble but I caught the tail end of a curse. A rather foul one at that.

I felt my shoulders drop. I know who she is...

Adrenaline coursed through my veins in an instant. My heart pounded against my chest as I stepped clumsily through the snow until I managed to part the branch between me and a clearing where she was.

"Gloria?" My eyes widened, I hadn't actually seen her even though I had sent a lackey to go and release her out of jail.

My plan was to use her as a hostage of some sort on (Y/n) but I suppose that's out of the picture now... How did I think that would work? Nevermind.

Her dirty blond hair whipped around and I felt my heart stutter when her blue eyes locked with mine.

"Who's-?"

After she realized who I was, her demeanor grew cold and anger took over her features.

"YOU SON OF A-" She didn't finish, instead her hands clenched into fists. "I'VE GOT A BONE TO PICK WITH YOU"

I yelped and tried to backpedal when she came charging at me. I wasn't fast enough and stepped in a pile of loose powdery snow, instantly sinking above my knee.

Gloria tackled and pinned me down, the soft crunching of snow echoing out of our weight.

"DO YOU REALIZE WHAT A MESS YOU MADE?! OF ME!? OF OUR CHILDREN?! OUR (Y/N) SUFFERED BECAUSE OF YOU!!" I stared up at her, flabbergasted.

"I REGRET NEVER TAKING ACTION IN THE PAST. WHEN THIS FIRST STARTED. YOU TOLD ME TO SHUT UP AND DRINK. REMEMBER?!" Her eyes held nothing but fury, and a pang of guilt shook me.

"SO I DID- AND-AND I-" Tears filled her eyes and she growled before shoving me deeper into the snow. She sat to the side and wiped viciously at her face.

"I made them suffer too." She glared at me, curling her arms around her legs. The resemblance of the expression between her and (Y/n) was jarring.

"We are so so crazily lucky she managed to survive between the two of us. And to bring Elijah, Agrian, and Rose with her... Surely you've realized she's a force to be reckoned with?" She said all these things quietly, but with both venom and a little bit of awe.

I gulped and tried to use one of my arms to prop myself up, at least until Gloria growled out:

"Don't you Dare."

I stopped and succumbed to the cold snow, I shivered in my lab coat, thankful I decided to wear at least a turtleneck sweater yesterday.

From the corner of my eye, I studied her, just as she was studying me. Her hair was so knotted that you wouldn't be able to guess its full length. The orange jail jumper was faded but still out of place in this snowy tundra. It dawned on me that she would be colder than me in that thing.

Why had I... failed as a decent Human Being?

I've known that for a long time. I knew it even before we moved to Mt. Ebott City. Before I left Gloria, (Y/n), Elijah, Agrian, And Rose. So why answer these questions now?

"I'm Sorry" I whispered. Gloria sputtered, her face pulling an incredulous look.

"Sorry? SORRY!? A Sorry will never get those 6 years back Cain." I flinched when she said my name. There was a time when she would say it fondly...

"I-I know..." I started, tearing my gaze off of her and to the trees above me. "There isn't an apology in all the languages of the world that could justify what I've done."

"There really isn't" Gloria deadpanned. I sighed.

"Will you allow me to try and explain?" She scoffed.

"Choose your words wisely" I breathed in sharply before organizing my thoughts.

"I'm not really sure why I did what I've done. Power? Fame? Some sort of sick and twisted satisfaction of tearing a family I built... apart?" I paused, trying to recall (Y/n)'s smile. It seemed foreign to me now.

"When I caught her in my shop all those years ago, I was angry she had disobeyed me, but I was also scared. I was scared that she had found the animals, the ones sent by the government for me to test the inventions I built.

"I was scared that she wouldn't see me the same. I abused her when she turned into that hybrid. Because I figured that if she feared me more than anyone she wouldn't tell anyone, and the fact that she was also a secret kept her mouth shut.

"But it wasn't just her I manipulated." I looked to the side to see the sun shining through the branches and dappling Gloria with spots of light. She kept her face carefully neutral. I felt my courage start to dwindle.

"I did the same to you, to the three younger children, and then left you after shattering everything I stood for. Faking my death, because I couldn't handle the guilt."

After I finished, Gloria huffed. Looking down at her knees.

"So, spur of the moment stuff that blew up in ways you didn't want to?" I bit the inside of my cheek.

"No, more like a spur of the moment that evolved to a mindset that I didn't get out of until I got reality-checked by something that blew up in my face in the form of an obsidian dragon."

"Hmm" Gloria looked up and I gulped at the calculation in her blue eyes.

"Sit up" She ordered.

I stared at her for a few seconds before propping myself up on my arms and slowly folding my legs to a criss-cross position. She shifted so she was facing me.

"You're an idiot"

"A really really stupid idiot" I agreed without hesitation.

"You're a terrible person"

"The vilest one on the planet"

"You do not deserve forgiveness"

"I'll gladly go to the innermost rings of whatever eternal punishment the universe has to offer"

"And I'm an absolute fool to still love you"

"Yes, that- wait" I blinked "Huh?"

Gloria shook her head and let out a breath and a shiver.

"You heard me. I look at you and I curse my heart for flipping as it used too when we were younger. You'd think after I told myself all of your faults while in that cell with one of your employees I'd figure it out." She locked her eyes with me and I could only stare in shock.

"Well? Say something!" I jolted.

"We always told each other that we'd never learn..." I said hesitantly. She chuckled.

"Yeah, I suppose that's true." She got up, groaning a little. "Ugh, I shouldn't have tackled you like that. My bones aren't what they used to be."

She patted off the snow on her back and folded her arms. "Well? Let's get out of here. We're already going to get a serious fever from being outside in this weather." I shook my head and scrambled up to my feet.

I followed Gloria's lead and looked around.

"I- uh, I was heading to the shed a little ways from here to get the snowmobile." Gloria raised her eyebrow.

"Well then lead the way, Mr. 'It's Doctor Cain to you missy'" I choked and stumbled as I took one step out of the print of myself.

"You haven't called me that in 16 years!!" I exclaimed. Gloria smirked.

"Well get used to it, Mr. 'It's-"

"I get it I get it! Okay, okay" I could feel myself flushing red as I led Gloria out of the forest.

"Ms. 'Never gonna give you up'" I mumbled.

I heard a gasp and yelped as a sharp strike to the head sent me stepping over my feet over to the side.

"Just because I called you by your nickname doesn't mean you get to call me by mine!"

It's not even a nickname though... I thought, rubbing the back of my head.

Soon enough, I could see the shed in between the trees and silently guided Gloria towards it. When we were both standing in front of it, she asked.

"So. How are you going to open it?"

On the door, were several padlocks. All of which required a key, none of them I had on my person.

However, I did have one small trick up my sleeve. Literally. I pulled out a Swiss army knife and adjusted the handles to reveal a pair of in-built pliers. Gloria sighed and shook her head.

"Honestly why am I surprised. You always jumped to the opportunity to deface government property." I gasped, offended.

"Not every time! Besides, when I became a worker for them you seemed to have no problem doing just the same."

Gloria spluttered, coughing, and placing a hand on her chest as her face turned beet red. I blinked as I realized what I said. I shrank into my shoulders as my own face felt extra hot.

"I'm- I'm just gonna-" I murmured timidly.

I walked forward and started to ply links apart by the lock.

The silence was deafening but thank heavens for the thin links that were easy to pull apart. I got the door open with a bit of pushing and was relieved to see the snowmobile with a can of gas right beside it. I walked in and soon found out that it was only half full but I reasoned that'd be enough to get us down the mountain. We'd have to figure things out from there though...

I popped the lid to the gas tank open and emptied the contents of the can down it. After, I placed it back near the wall and made sure the lid was screwed tight. Looking at the mode of transportation, I stared at the seat before I heard Gloria coming in.

"One of us is gonna have to drive while the other hangs on" I muttered. I heard her sigh.

"Well. Alright, I don't have a license. Here's the keys." I looked up to see Gloria offering the keys, which were from the little hook on the opposite wall, to me. I trailed her arm to see her face.

All of a sudden, I was taken back to when we were teenagers and she had said the exact same phrase to me. It was so long ago, and so much has happened since then, when we were young, the world seemed so big...

"Well? Let's get out of here, what's the holdup?" I sucked in a breath of air and shook my head.

"Nothing, Gloria, I'm sorry" The woman raised an eyebrow, and as I got onto the seat, she hummed.

"Alright, if you say so," She got on behind me, her chest pressed against my back and I had to hold in a breath when her arms circled my middle.

Has it really been that long since I've had physical contact?!

I shoved the key into the ignition and was relieved when the engine turned over and cluttered to life. As I drove the vehicle out of the shed, I maneuvered past trees and the like, only half paying any attention to where I was going.

I was more focused on the feeling bubbling from my heart, every time Gloria shifted her arms for a more comfortable position it sparked again.

I sighed. I have a very long road ahead of me.
