{ Chapter 37: Buried by Greed }
In the bedroom, Danika stares at the ceiling for quite a while with a thoughtful, conflicted expression on her face. She takes out her phone and looks back at the text from Striker after the Anti-Blitzo party. She then grabs the photo frame that shows the pictures of herself and her demon family she made so far, looking happy. Danika lightly traces the picture and then looks at her phone again before finally making a decision she starts texting back.
Meet me in the back alley in Pride. It's decided. We'll do this tonight. Don't be late.
After texting him, she grabs her weapons and changes her clothes into a combat outfit as she gets ready for the day to finally put an end to her past. Her biological parents. As Danika moves out of the mansion to meet Striker in the Pride, Blitz secretly watched her in the bush as he sensed a bad feeling about this.

That night in Pride, Danika was leaning against the back alley wall, waiting. She hears a familiar rattle and looks to the side to see Striker hopping off of Bombproof and approaching her.
"Ah, Starlight, so you had decided to kill your soon-to-be-dead parents?" Striker said, smirking.
"Oh, you know it. Besides it's been overdue to finally end this fucking nightmare!" Danika said, smirking back before turning around with a dark glare.
"Well, I've never seen that side of you before." Striker said, surprised as he walked around Danika and placed his hand on the wall.
Danika rolled her eyes when she saw the smirk on the imp snake's face and his eyes scrolling down her body.
"Whatever you are thinking, don't. It's not going to happen," she said.
Striker chuckled as he replied, "Not to worry. I was only thinking how an innocent little girl you were turned out to be this hot killer. It's exhilarating."
"Look, we don't have time for this. You made a deal with me and after the deal is done, I never want to see you again." When she didn't receive an answer, Danika sighed and said, "Now come on Striker. Let's finish this" Danika said angered, pulling out her gun and her sword to show fiercely.
As she opened the portal to Earth, Striker went first because Danika hesitated for a moment about making a decision, but she wanted to end her nightmare and finally get revenge. Then Danika went through the portal while Blitz looked worried and scared at the same time as he didn't want her to lead to the same fate as he had once, so after they went through the portal, Blitz jumped out of the bush and went through the portal quickly before the portal closed on time.

As Danika and Striker get to Earth to see Danika's old house and that's where her biological parents lived. Glaring, Danika quietly peeked into the window to see her parents happily eating their dinner on the table without care. The striker peeked over as well. She seethed to see them so blissfully happy like it was just the two of them. She then noticed the briefcase as she could guess it was filled with money.
"Hey Striker, why do they have a briefcase filled with money?" Danika questioned, suspicious.
"It seems that your former parents will become the richest people in history." Striker answered.
"So that's why they wanted me to work all day after school. They want to become rich and want to get rid of me for showing no care." Danika figured out while being so angry than before.
"So what's the plan, Starlight?" Striker asked.
"Okay, here's the plan if I remember correctly, my... father will be out to do who knows what and mother will be at home most of the time. Tomorrow morning, we ambush her and locked her up in the basement. It's time to do some... remodeling to this house."
"And your father?"
"We'll lock him in as well with a surprise attack. And once we're done with remodeling, we'll lead them into a mousetrap."
"Sounds like a plan."
Smirking, Danika nodded and looked back at her parents as they finished eating their dinner and left their plate in the sink before heading to bed.

The next morning as Danika thought, her father left the house as he drove away, leaving her mother alone. Perfect. The mother happily gets out of bed and heads into the kitchen to grab something to eat. As she opened the fridge, she didn't notice the window was opened as a shadow figure quietly went inside the house. She closed the fridge after grabbing herself a cheesecake. As she ate, she skipped over to the briefcase and happily opened it. The mother grabbed a stack of it and counted them. But as she counted, a loud crash was heard, causing her to jump. She quickly placed the money back inside the briefcase and locked it before heading into the kitchen to where the sound is coming from. She carefully looked around, feeling a bit scared. The mother noticed the basement door was opened and curiously started heading over to it. But as she was about to get closer, a voice greeted her.
"Hello, Ms. Nightingale."
She shrieked and turned to see Striker leaning against the wall with a smirk, holding a straw wheat in his mouth.
"W-Who are you, demon?! H-How'd you get in here?!"
"Doesn't matter. I like to finally see what you truly look like and boy, do I know where she got that good look from."
"What are you talking about?..." she asked, confused.
Striker slowly approached her menacingly. The mother quickly grabbed the gun and loaded it with ammo and pointed it at him. Striker stopped and snickered to see her attempt to kill him.
"Seriously? You don't have the gut to shoot me."
"D-Don't test me! I will shoot you!"
"...I think you should be worried about something else. You see, it's not just me who's here."
The mother was confused and scared of what he mean by that. That was until Danika came over with a mask covering her mouth and stood in front of her mother, who screamed and shot her with the gun. With a quick reflex, she dodged to the side as her mother went flying and falling down the stairs into the basement as she got knocked out. Danika approached the basement door and looked down at her before closing the door and locked it. Danika and Striker head outside and looked down at the basement window where they can see her mother still unconscious. They nodded to each other and started barricading the window before heading back inside the house.

They nodded to each other and started barricading the window before heading back inside the house.
At night, Danika's father headed back home as he whistled in a tune and unlocked the door before heading inside.
"Honey! I'm home! I've got great news! The deal is almost done, and then we will be even richer!"
He stopped and noticed the house was a bit... dark and only some lights were on.
"Honey?"
Worried, he headed over to the living room to see the briefcase untouched. He grabbed it and carried it as he started looking around for his wife. Meanwhile, Danika's mother finally wakes up and finds herself in the basement.
"Babe??"
She looked up to see the basement door started to unlock. It was then opened by her husband, who looked relieved to see her okay.
"Dear? Are you alright?"
Before she could answer, she saw two shadow figures coming behind him and she tried to warn him but it was too late. They pushed him to the basement as well and they fell into the trap and locked it.
"Well done, Starlight." Striker congratulated.
"Thanks." Danika blushed at Striker's comment before she snapped out of it to stay focused. "But it's not over yet, now let's remodel the house so that they'll never forget the mistake of their living life" Danika smirked evilly and Striker was surprised once again as he got more impression with her.
Hammer hitting can be heard throughout the house along with screwdriver. Striker kicked off the wooden parts that are on the ground. Danika looked up at the photo of her parents and noticed a little Danika herself is in it only it was crossed out. She scoffed at the photo.
"Mom, Dad, you don't like the house? I can always remodel it."
She grabbed the chainsaw and started it up. Meanwhile, her parents listened from above, wondering what's going on while feeling scared. Danika cut off the photo I half, separating her little self and her parents as she chainsaw through the wall. Once the photo was dropped to the ground, Danika punched through the wall. Throughout the night, the house outside is still the same, the sound of parts being torn off and thrown around inside as it's being remodeled.
Her parents waited for a while until they heard the sound was fully stopped and now quiet.
"We need to call the police." her mother whispered.
"Our phone is upstairs." her dad whispered back.
Just then, the door clicking can be heard and they looked up instantly to see the door from above the stairs of the basement is now opened, but they see no one behind it. They looked at each other for a moment and then slowly went up the stairs with the father holding the briefcase. As soon as they're out of the basement, they noticed the changes inside the house. All the places are covered by wooden walls. They tapped their hands against it while walking through until they stopped. Her father's eyes widened in terror.
"The front door was here, wasn't it?" he asked, touching the wall to where the front door was located.
"What?"
Suddenly, the wall was slid to the side in front of them, completing encasing them in the darkness. Her father quickly took out a lighter to light up the room. Her mother gripped onto her husband's arm with worry. Then the two wooden doors opened in front of them to show a hallway with holes on the walls as they were lead through the maze. As they walk through, they peeked through holes, hoping to see a way out when suddenly the wooden plank slides down in front of them, separating them.
"Honey!! Babe!" her father shouted through the wall.
"Sweetie!" her mother shouted back. "I'm scared! What's going on?! What did we do?!!"
"I don't know! But we have to find a way out! I'll come back!" he promised before walking to the opposite.
At the end of the passage through the uncovered window, which made his eyes lit up with hope, when a shadow figure stood in front of the window. Thinking it might be some nobody, he tries to bribe them.
"H-Hey! I don't know who you are, but I can pay you a lot if you let us go! I don't know what we did! Just leave us alone! Take the money!"
But the figure didn't say anything until they approached the light to reveal Danika as she removed the mask to show her true face. Her father's eyes widened in shock and terror to recognize his daughter.
"D-Danika?..."
Danika didn't say anything and just stare at him blankly.
"Keep your money."
Before he could run, he bumped into someone's chest and looked up to see Striker smirking down at him.
"Hello, Mr. Nightingale."
Her dad screamed at the sight of Striker as he backed away. "What the hell are you?"
"Oh, how rude of me, this is my cowboy assassin, Striker and we're here to finish you and Mother off that I should've done for months." Danika introduced, slowly approaching him with a dagger in hand.
Her father shook in terror as looked back at Danika then to Striker before screaming.
Meanwhile, her mother kept looking for a way out when she saw Danika, who's wearing her mask again, and immediately ran into the small doorway and crawled through the hatchery along the passage towards the dead end, allowing Danika and Striker to shut her inside. The mother peeked up the small gap to see Danika revealing her face to her, making her eyes widened in shock.
"Like a rat in the maze." Danika said tauntly.
"Danika..." her mother spoke in horror. "No... you can't be here! You're supposed to be in Hell!"
"Be honest with me. Do you truly love me as your own daughter right when you give birth to me?" Before her mother could speak, Danika cut her off. "I suppose it doesn't matter. Yours and his actions proved it throughout my childhood years that I never get to have fun like the rest of the normal, happy family. See you both in Hell, Ms. Nightingale."
Danika then opened the door for a bit and Striker dumped Danika's scared father in front of her along with throwing tons of money from the briefcase inside with them before she fully shut to what it's now a wooden coffin. Her mother and father screamed in terror as they tried to get out only for Danika and Striker to nail the coffin to prevent them from escaping. They pleaded for Danika.
"Dan! Please, we're your parents! Please!" screamed her former father.
"We're sorry! Please forgive us!" cried out her former mother.
But Danika ignored them as she approached her home and dumped the entire gasoline inside before Striker lit it up. The two left a now burning house before dragging a screaming coffin away, their mission is now accomplished. Blitz watched the whole thing in shock that Danika had done it. He's proud though, but never expects Striker to willingly help her out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next morning, Danika stood alone before the memorial with the names of her parents on the tombstone, holding a shovel. Footsteps approached her side and she glanced to the side to see... Katie. Katie is holding a bouquet as she approached the tombstone and placed it in front of it.
"Hi. I came to give my respect to my friend who was buried here," Katie said as she continued to stare at the tombstone. On the tombstone, it said Danika Nightingale 1998-2024. Katie looked at Danika and asked, "Did you know her?"
Danika looked away and back at the tombstone not before answering. "No."
Katie sighed before kneeling down to remove some of the weeds away from the tombstone. "I didn't came to pay my respect to her parents since I'm aware of their deceit and their shallow behavior. I just thought my friend would want that. I... never got the chance to tell her how much our friendship really meant to me and how sorry I am for leaving her behind..."
Danika couldn't help but tear up a bit and she quickly calmed herself. "Maybe she knows and is very happy to know she's not alone..."
Katie was surprised at her words. "And how do you know?"
Danika answered before she showed her true face to her childhood friend as Katie was shocked to see her again.
"Because she's right in front of you."
"Danika?" Katie was shocked and surprised with tears of joy as she thought they had never seen each other again since she moved away.
"Hello, my old friend, miss me?" Danika said with sympathy.
Katie slowly approached her with her shaky hands reaching out to her face. Though she stopped herself as she kept staring at Danika.
"N-No. This can't be real! You can't be! I must be dreaming! You must be a ghost!"
As Katie rambled, Danika decided to prove it by doing something she always did to her friend whenever she panics or says something stupid.
SLAP!!
Katie held her right check at the assault. "Ow! Again?! Danika! You know I hate it when you--"
Katie stopped herself from yelling when she realized that it is Danika, who gives her a sheepish smile.
"Sorry about that. I have to prove it, didn't I," Danika said sheepishly.
As payback, Katie slapped her back on the cheek.
"Ow."
Katie and Danika then hugged each other tightly as they were so happy to see each other again and they were crying with joy.
"Danika, is this really you? I can't believe it!" Katie said in relief.
"And I can't believe though you wanted to see me again after all these years, Katie" Danika added.
Katie pulled away from her to face Danika.
"I really wanted to. It's just hard and plus the money you have to pay to go back to the place you really belong. And when I heard about your parent's death, I was heartbroken."
"Well, it was a lie. All lies." Danika said, facing the tombstone.
"How'd they die?" Katie asked with wonder.
"From Greed. They were so lost in money, that they somehow ended themselves, realizing they were not really happy. Money can't buy happiness," Danika said as she glared at her old parents buried in the ground.
"I see. Well, now that you're here, can we... catch up? Like old times?" Katie asked.
Danika looked over to see a shadow figure of Striker watching her behind the tree he was hiding, before facing back to Katie.
"Sure, why not?" Danika happily agreed.
"Perfect! I know just a perfect place for us to go!" Katie smiled, hooking her arm with Danika's before the two left.
As Danika and Katie went to hang out together, Striker came out of the tree and smirked evilly, planning to kidnap Danika as he held a whip in his hands he sneaked up to the girls.
Glaring at the snake demon, Blitz moved away from his hiding spot and whispered, "Not on my watch, asshole. You are not going to hurt my sister and her friend."
Blitz was behind Striker the whole time to make sure nothing happens. But boy, was he glad he caught Striker red-handed. He needs to act fast and save Danika and her friend from Striker. Though he was having an emotional feeling between Danika and Katie, seeing them reunited and happy, but he's more than willing to see Danika happy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After the moment, Danika and Katie are in the café talking about the things that have happened to them. Though Danika wasn't sure if she could tell Katie about her life in literal Hell along with being sold by her parents to a demon. Even though she's her long-lost friend, she's not sure if Katie will believe her.
"So, how was your life back in Florida since you had moved?" Danika asked.
"Oh I was okay at first, but I missed you so much and I'm so sorry that I wasn't there for you when you were getting bullied by these bad people" Katie answered and apologized for the past.
"That's okay, Katie, you have no idea what I have been through a lot in my past life," Danika said as she drink her hot chocolate.
"And what happened after I was gone?"
"Oh trust me, my life is a long story, but my parents had me work all day after school hour after hour just for the money." Danika explained the story but to make it short.
"Oh Dan, I'm so sorry, I wish I was there for you like a true friend," Katie felt so painful as she picked at her garden salad.
"That's okay, after the death of my parents, I feel so free and don't have to worry anymore." Danika felt relief to finally end her nightmare.
"So, now that your parents are now dead, where are you gonna live now?" Katie asked curiously.
Danika knew she couldn't tell her the truth about Hell or her new family about demons. So she's gonna tell a half-truth and also half-lie to hide the full truth from Katie because Danika was afraid she would find it that she was adopted or being sold.
"Well, someone found me on the streets and took me to their nice little neighborhood in their nice house full of love, and had my new life there." Danika lied.
"Really? Then where do you live?" Katie questioned.
"In..... Hickory Creek." Danika lied again.
"Oh, that's nice, and as long that you have a happy new life and I am happy too." Katie held hands with her to know they'll never be apart again.
"Thanks, Katie." Danika smiled.
Katie then thought of something and smirked. "Got a boyfriend?"
Hearing that made Danika blush.
"Uh... well..."
Seeing that made Katie gasp.
"I KNEW IT! Tell me! Who's the lucky guy?!"
Danika knew she needs to tell her half the truth about her boyfriends.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They walk around the park to get some fresh air and they are happier than before just like when they were kids.
"Well, Danika, it's great to see you again." Katie smiled.
"Yeah, me too Katie, and I hope we'll see each other again. And here's my phone number so we can stay connected this time." Danika handed Katie her phone phone number to call each other.
"Wow thanks, Danika. And hopefully, we will hang out again, and maybe we can also visit sometimes."
"Yeah, one of these days."
They hugged again before Katie left with a wave goodbye and Danika returned a wave and had a tear of joy to have her long-lost friend again. After Katie left, Striker came out of his hiding place and walked over to Danika.
"So, this Katie is your friend?" he asked curiously.
"Yeah. My childhood best friend. My only human friend before she was forced to move to Florida. I'm glad that I got to see her again." Danika explained with a smile. "Also uh... thanks for... helping me deal with my problem. I finally feel free."
Striker was surprised at her thankfulness and smirked a bit.
"Heh. What can I say? It's my job."
"Well, the deal's a deal. Even though you broke that promise of not hurting my family and friends, I'll consider... going on a date with you." she said, feeling embarrassed.
This made him smirk even more as he leaned over to her while sneakily taking out a whip with his tail.
"Oh? What changed your mind?"
"Unlike you, I keep my promises. You did help me, so I promise to go on a date with you. But like I said, just one date and that is it. You don't come near me or my family after that," Danika said firmly.
"Whatever you say little lady." Striker looked up at the sky and said, "I believe it's time to go home. Back to your princess life."
Danika rolled her eyes before turning around to pick up her backpack. While she was distracted, Striker smirked as his hand slowly grabbed his whip behind is back. He was ready for this date, but he was not going to let her go back to that blueblood family. He was planning to take her and she will never escape him. He wanted this date to end with her moaning his name as he claims her.
Just before he could tie her up with his whip, a gun went off. Striker cried out in pain as a bullet pierced his hand, making him drop his whip. Danika turned around to see Striker crying out in pain as she saw his whip drop to the ground and turned to see Blitz holding out his gun pointing at Striker to save Danika from getting kidnapped.
"I thought I told you to keep your fucking cowboy hands off my employee!!" Blitz shouted in rage.
"Blitz! What are you doing here?" Danika was shocked to see Blitz coming out from his hiding place.
As Striker nursed his hand, Blitz grabbed Danika and pulled her behind him. He kept his gun pointed at the snake demon, making sure he doesn't get near the human girl.
"Your cowboy was trying to tie you up with his whip to kidnap you," he said to Danika.
"WHAT!?!"
Striker glared at the demon assassin with hatred. His plans were ruined!
"Your little partner was about to take you away from us!" Blitz explained.
Danika gasped to hear the explanation. How could she be so blind? Striker broke their promise again? Danika turned to Striker angrily more than before. Striker nervously backed away as she pulled out her gun and her sword as she was ready to fight back.
"HOW COULD YOU?!" Danika yelled at Striker and he ran away as he fled. "The deal is off! Forget about the date! I will NEVER be with you, you jerkface!"
Before he disappeared, Striker looked back with a sneer and said loudly, "This isn't over. I will be back and she will be mine... Blitzy."
Before they can fire their weapons, Striker was gone. Danika was so mad that she threw her sword on the ground and paste back-and-forth.
"Grr!! I can't believe I fell for it again!!" Danika yelled in frustration.
"Can't believe it?! I can't believe you actually trust Striker enough to help you on the mission when you could've asked us!" Blitz shouted at her. "You could've been hurt or worse! Raped! And I will never hear from this if HE found out about this!"
Danika slowly turned and looked at Blitz with anger. "I am completely fine! I can handle myself! Why did you follow me?!"
"I wasn't following you! I was just..." Blitz paused and try to rethink what he was going to say. Danika tapped her foot as she waited for his reply. "I was on a mission and happened to see you and that snake. I was in the right place at the right time. I was not following you at all."
"You were stalking weren't you?" Danika asked with a scoff.
"I WAS NOT!"
"That's a load of bs!" Danika marched up and poked her boss in the chest. "Blitz, you are the worst liar ever! Oh, please don't tell me that you're going to do that to me and Ozzie and Fizz whenever we go out or do something like you stalked Mox and Millie!"
"What?! No, that's not--"
"Then why are you treating me like a child?! I'm 26 years old! If I had known Striker would do something like this, I would easily kill him right here and there! Why are you acting like I'm so important to you when I can take care of myself?!"
"I JUST DON'T WANT TO LOSE YOU LIKE I ALREADY LOST MY OWN SISTER AND MY MOTHER!! YOU ARE LIKE A SISTER TO ME AND I CAN'T BEAR TO SEE YOU GET HURT!!"
Hearing that shocked Danika.
"You... see me as... your sister?"
Blitz looked completely stunned as he rubbed his head. "I... um..." He looked back into Danika's eyes and sighed. "Yes, I see you as my sister. I never really had a good relationship with Barbie. At first when I hired you, I only thought of you as my employee. But ever since when we were captured by those idiot government, I just felt like I needed to protect you. I would die to see you get hurt."
Danika was shocked as she watched Blitz sit on the sidewalk, hugging his knees to his chest. Without even asking, she sat down next to him, thinking about what he just said.
"Is that why you are always protective of me?" she asked him.
"Yes, I just don't want you to get hurt. You have told me stories about your parents and how you've been treated when you're little. I don't know why, I just feel like I needed to protect you." he explained.
"Blitz, that makes me feel really happy that you care about me," Danika explained as she placed her hand on his shoulder. "I love you, but you do know that I can take care of myself right?"
"Right, I know you can take care of yourself. But what would happen if there is no one to protect you from these awful humans and demons that want to kill you or worse take you away from us so that we will never see you again.." Blitz's voice breaks as he was crying from having an emotional conversation.
Danika then had some thoughts about what he said before and thinking her whole journey since Stolas adopted her to welcome her to her new home in Hell. After many memories, she has been through her missions, family, and friends and even had new boyfriends she began to cry in tears about having emotional moments.
"Oh, Blitz, I didn't know how you feel, it's....Just.... ever since Stolas adopted me as his new daughter and welcomed me to his home. I feel like Hell is my one true home where I belong with the people who apply to me, love me, and most importantly I have now realized I know who really looks after me is......My brother aka......You."
Danika's emotional talk has really surprised Blitz for having a brother and he has Danika as not only an employee but also a sister. And they smiled at each other and gave a great big hug as a warm brother and sister moment.
"Thanks, Dan." he said.
After that, Danika portaled herself and Blitz back to Hell and then he dropped her off back to her mansion. The two wave goodbye before Blitz portaled himself back to his home. Little did they know, Striker had snuck back in Hell with them.
In the motel, in the dark bedroom with a lamp on, Striker was sitting down on the bed with his hat off as he's on the phone with someone.
"Failed to kidnap your human daughter, ma'am."
Stella's angry shout can be heard from the phone as Striker pulled his ear away from it.
"WHAT?!! Why did you not do the deal and take that human girl away?!! What do I pay you for?!"
Striker rolled his snake eyes at the owl's ranting. He does not get paid enough to hear her whine and be bitchy about it.
"She's smarter than I thought. Plus, she got a backup before I could act. But I promise you that I will get her one way or another," he declared.
Stella glared at the phone as her face was turning red and her hand was shaking.
Stella sneered before screaming at the phone, "You better. I want her out! She's getting in the way of my plan! I don't care what you're gonna do to her, just keep her away from Stolas!!"
"Understood."
With that, Stella hangs up. Striker sighs before glances down at the picture of Danika he's holding the whole time. It was her in her owl demon form wearing a cute cowgirl outfit she was wearing at the festival. He smirks evilly as he stroke the picture.
"I'll get you real soon, Starlight~~"
He then turns off the lamp, his yellow eyes glowing in the dark before closing them as he goes to sleep.
Meanwhile, back on Earth by the burial area where Mr. and Ms. Nightingale's tombstone is, underneath the deep ground is the wooden coffin and inside revealed Danika's screaming parents as they're trapped inside without anything to escape from and no one to hear them as they face their demise.
