{ Chapter 10: The Harvest Moon Festival }

At a sunlit exterior of Stolas's mansion, a sigh of contentment is heard. Blitz is lighting a cigarette on Stolas' bed and folds his arms behind his head.

"I'm sorry for having to move our little rendezvous early. I have an engagement this month on the full moon. And it's only two days away." Stolas apologized.

Stolas is wearing a ball gag and harness, his hands tied to the headboard with rope.

"When this happens, it's not really something I fuss about..."

Blitz uses the cigar to burn the rope, freeing Stolas, who takes Blitzo's cigar from him and takes a long drag of it.

"But, do you really need the book for this farm bullshit? I have, like, fifteen new clients waitin' for heads to roll."

"As shocking as it may seem, Blitzy, my grimoiiiiiire is actually incredibly important. And it isn't supposed to be lent out to itty-bitty Imps like yourself."

Stolas puts out the cigarette in one of Blitzo's horns and pinches his cheek before Blitzo shoves him away.

"The Harvest Moon is a very special occasion! It's been my annual duty to showcase it in the Ring of Wrath. It's celebrated by a very charming little festival with the locals."

Blitz pulls a feather out of his mouth in disgust.

"Wrath, huh? My employees are from there. I've never really been. I hear it's full of inbred chucklefucks." Blitz said.

This made Stolas sit up.

"Oh! Why don't you all join me at the festival? I can guarantee you all..."

Stolas pulls the covers over his head and his head appears near Blitzo's crotch.

"...special access~" he said seductively and then chuckled.

"Look, I told you, we're not bodyguards. Okay? That was a one-time thing we did badly." Blitz stated.

Stolas stands up with the covers on his head. He does a playful owl head tilt.

"I'm simply offering a work-free two days of fun! I feel quite safe at the Harvest Festival. It's the same every year." he offered. "Plus, I wanted to take my daughter Danika to a Wrath Ring to explore. And I know how much she loves horses like you do."

This made Blitz let out a small smile, remembering when Danika noticed his obsession with horses and showed him a movie called "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron" she somehow took from Earth. They both enjoyed and cried at the movie as Danika told him that this is her first childhood movie she'd ever watched. He quickly loose his smile, seeing Stolas looking at him.

"Well if you promise this isn't some fuck fest invite, it does sound like it could be a blast and a half. Plus, it's not like we can do jack shit without your book anyway."

"Aww, I'm sowwy your clients will have to wait..." Stolas said in a baby-talk voice.

Blitz waves a dismissive hand with a grin.

"Oh, fuck my clients!"

Danika was having a good sleep when she was awoken by the knocking on the door.

"Oh, Danika! Time to wake up~~ We're going to a Wrath Ring. Your boss and your coworkers are coming with! Oh, and wear something that screams you're a cowgirl!" Stolas called out from the door.

This made her wake up in surprise.

"What for?!" she called back.

"For the Harvest Moon Festival! It doesn't start till after two days so we're going early for you to explore other rings of Hell! Be ready!" Stolas explained before walking away.

Danika couldn't help but smile, looking forward to going on a trip as she gets out of her bed to get ready while taking out her suitcase.

To the Rough n' Tumbleweed Ranch, the I.M.P van pulls up in front of two imps.

"Mama! Daddy!"

Millie gets out of the van and happily runs toward her parents. Her father hugs her and spins her around before placing her down.

"Yeeeee-hawwww! How's my deadly little pumpkin spice doing?" he greeted.

Joe ruffles Millie's hair affectionately.

"I'm good, Pa! Thanks for lettin' us stay here for the harvest jamboree." Millie said.

"It's no trouble. We know you aren't making as much anymore since y'all went "freelance"." Lin said, doing an air quote with her fingers.

"Freelance pays fine, Ma! We're doin' fiiiiine! It's fine."

Millie walks over to Moxxie, who is struggling to carry luggage.

"Anyway, y'all remember my husband Moxxie?"

Millie shoves a nervous Moxxie in front of her parents. They stare at him in disapproval.

"Hmph." Joe huffed, crossing his arms.

"Greetings, Lin! Joe! How have you been, uh, with all the... flaming twisters and stuff around here?" Moxxie greeted, nervously holds out his hand.

"We lost our old farm hand to one of them terrors last week." Joe glared.

This made Moxxie laugh nervously.

"Oh, crumbs. My bad! I am so sorry. I- I didn't mean to open that wound... sir."

"Hey, watch it! I'm the "sir" here, bucko!" Blitz called out with a glare.

"Oh yeah! Y'all haven't met my boss Blitzo! And his hellhound!" Millie introduced Blitz and Loona.

"I'm not just his hellhound." Loona glared.

"Yeah, she's my daughter!" Blitz agreed, pulling Loona to his side.

"Only on paper." Loona corrected.

Blitz releases Loona and walks away to greet Millie's parents. Loona pulls out a smartphone and begins typing.

"Y'all don't deserve to know my name."

Blitz walks over to Millie's parents and shoves Moxxie away.

"It's a pleasure to finally meet the sperm and egg factory that popped out this little gem of an assassin. You two raised a sturdy bitch!" he said, playfully elbowing Millie.

"That we did! So... Blitz, is it? Heh heh. That's a fine name." Joe chuckled wholeheartedly.

Blitz and Joe shake hands.

"It reminds me of war." Lin sighed happily as Joe sighed along with her.

"Nothing like a little war to make a strong man!"he said, flexing his bicep.

"I like you people." Blitz smiled.

Suddenly, luggages and suitcases were placed behind Blitz, making him, Joe, and Lin turn to see Danika in her cowgirl outfit.

"That's all the bags, Blitz."

"Whoa, shit. Thanks. Oh, and meet my favorite employee Danika. The best girl you'd have." Blitz introduced.

Joe and Lin were surprised it was a Ars Goetia as Danika faces them with a smile and bows to them.

"It's a pleasure to be meeting you both. You must be Millie's parents. Thank you for letting us stay for two days. I hope we get along."

"Modest, aren't you? Well, it's nice to meet you too." Joe said.

"Just surprised to see a Goetia in this ranch." Lin said. "And no need to bow to us."

"Not important and all, but I'm the adopted daughter of Stolas." Danika said, standing up from bowing. "And I want to at least show my respect to you."

"I like her." Joe said, seeing how honest, respectful, and kind she is.

Moxxie decided to start up the conversation.

"Y'know... more battles were won by technological advances in warfare. I've researched the history of weaponry extensively, and it's inspiring how... for example, the progression of guns utilizing angelic technology has changed the landscape of Hell's combative..."

Millie makes a "cut it out" motion with her hands. Joe crosses his arms and stares at Moxxie with disapproval.

"I mean... War fun!" Moxxie attempted to redeem himself for Joe by speaking in a deep, awkward voice.

"Guns get the job done... but a man ain't nothin' if he can't tear the head off a hellish beast with only his bare... hands!" Joe grinned.

"HAAAA! He's right, Moxxie!" Blitz mocked Moxxie and spoke in baby talk tone. "You got cute wittle baby hands like your baby dick!"

Blitz grabs Moxxie's hand and reaches toward his crotch. Moxxie slaps his arm away.

"Refrain... sir." Moxxie warned.

"Yeah, please don't do that. It's gross." Danika said, looking weirded out.

"Speakin' of strong hands, y'all should meet our newest help." Joe said, turning around and calling out. "Hey! Striker!"

Black flaming hooves clop rapidly on the ground. An Imp's spiky tail whips a black horse's flank. An Imp wearing a cowboy hat rides a black hell horse with a fiery mane. The horse leaps over a fence. The horse rears up and roars in front of the group. Danika was surprised at the appearance of the horse and looked up at a rider that's named Striker. Striker tips his hat in greeting, a stalk in his mouth.

"Well, howdy! Oh, lookie here! You must be the famous Mildred!"

Striker gets off the horse and walks toward Millie.

"Heard some good things about you from your folks, little lady." he winked.

"Ohhh!" Millie laughed sheepishly.

Striker shakes Millie's hand.

"What're y'all doin' so far away from Imp City? Heh. The free workin' finally slowin' down?"

"Oh, no! Freelance isn't free! It's a--... Never mind. We're just visitin' for the festival. The prince is our boss' boyyyyfrieeeend!" Millie answered dramatically.

This made Danika snicker, making Striker notice her.

"Millie, I am not above hitting a female in front of her daddy." Blitz said with his arm raised for a bit.

"Boss, huh...? Ohhh, so YOU'RE the bold imp to start his own killing biz?" Striker asked.

"Yeah, well if you're good at somethin', you should probably capitalize." Blitz said.

"Not many Imps start businesses on their own. That's pretty impressive, sir." Striker said.

This made Blitz surprised at the compliment.

"Oh...! Yeah? It is-- I-I-I guess- I guess it is, isn't it?"

"So you even conned that ditzy blueblood into gettin' you to the surface?"

Striker and Blitz shake hands.

"Well, it's long and complicated, but the short answer is yes. But he's not like, you know-- W-We're y- We're not, like... We're not doing it... We w- What's betw- It's a transactional fucking, you see."

Blitz makes a sexual motion with his hands. He then pulls Danika to his side.

"But you should also thank this cool gal for the help of killing and making our business more successful. She's also the Deadly Night Shade, nicknamed by moi and Millie."

"I see. Surprised to see a blueblood like you in this ring." Striker said, looking at her up and down.

"Well, I'm new here and wanted to explore. I heard you got cool horses around here. And working with Blitz and others are great. I'm Danika. Danika Nightingale." Danika said, offering her hand.

"Striker." Striker said, shaking hands with her.

"Y'know... you boys should enter the Pain Games after two days!" Joe suggested.

Blitz hears that and scuttles sideways over to Joe.

"I heard games! What games? I'm in!"

"Every harvest festival, there's a competition to be the roughest, toughest bastard in Wrath!" Lin explained, making Blitz interested.

Millie crosses her arms and pouts.

"Yeah! Wish I could play!"

"Millie, you know you get too carried away. The last competition ended in fifteen separate funerals." Lin scolded, placing a hand on her daughter's shoulder.

"Wait, what?" Danika said in shock.

"I'm aware, but I only caused nine of them! How come Sallie May still gets to compete?" Millie complained.

"Your sister doesn't have a neighborhood head count." Lin stated.

"She so does!" Millie argued back.

Sallie May carries a sack and a small imp drags an Imp body as she walks past them.

"It doesn't count if they don't find the bodyyyyyy!" she said in a sing-song voice, making Millie seethe.

"Still, you get to root for her and your brothers, and now you can cheer on your boss!" Lin assured;

Moxxie puts a hand on Lin's shoulder.

"Y'know, she can also cheer for me." Moxxie pointed to himself confidently.

Hearing that made Joe wheeze-laugh and slap his leg before calming down.

"...Wait, you?"

"Yeah! I can compete, can't I?" Moxxie asked.

Lin elbows him hard in the side. Moxxie tears up in pain.

"Sorry, boy. But, I don't think sensitive, thespian types would last very long in the games." Joe laughed.

"I was born here, too! I have some fight in me!" Moxxie drawled.

Striker puts a hand on Moxxie's shoulder.

"Huh. Well then, little fella... Why don'tcha help me wrangle one o' them hogs for dinner?"

Striker mentions to a large sleeping hell hog in a pigpen.

"Simple. Watch me!" Moxxie said, going to grab his gun in his jacket.

Striker grins and hands Moxxie a dagger and rope.

"Nah... with these. Bullets can't pierce the shell. You gotta get the knife underneath and pry yourself an openin'."

Moxxie gulps nervously and smiles.

"Oh! Right, right. I knew that."

Blitz leans in toward Moxxie and grabs his shoulders. Moxxie's eyes twitch.

"Now, just remember, your rep with the in-laws is on the line here! So, no pressure at all, you totally will not make an ass of yourself in front of everyone important in your life. Go get 'em, tiger."

With those words, he shoves Moxxie forward.

"Ohhh."

"Mox, you don't need to do this!" Millie said.

"Yeah, I don't think this is a good idea." Danika agreed, not liking where this is going.

"Oh, he totally does. KICK ITS ASS, MOXXIE! YEAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

Blitz cheers as Moxxie enters the pen. He nervously walks forward, knife in hand. Moxxie leaps forward and wraps the rope around the hog's neck. He moves the knife down and it strikes harmlessly against the hog's hide. The hog roars and runs around, trying to buck Moxxie off.

"FUCK yeah, Moxxie! Ride it, Moxxie! Make it that bitch you won't call back in the morning!" Blitz cheered.

Loona grins and records a video on her phone, making Danika look at her in disbelief.

"This is fucking beautiful." Loona said.

"Doin' great, Moxxie!" Blitz cheered and whispered to Loona. "Send me that video later."

Millie watches in concern as Moxxie yelps and looks up. Danika jumps in and pushes Moxxie to the side before punching the hog away with her power. The hog skid to a stop and glare daggers at Danika, who glare back. The two have a standoff as Blitz and others watches with Loona still recording this. The hog puffs out smoke from its nose while Danika cracks her fingers that are near the handle of her sword. After a moment of standoff, the hog roars and charges. Danika soon charges back and swiftly presses the hog's pressure points on each of its body with her fingers before landing dramatically with a dark glare behind the hog.

The hog froze for a moment and collapsed on the ground as Danika stands up. Joe and Lin, including Striker were speechless.

"She's definitely joining the Pain Games." Lin commented.

"Yeah." Joe nodded in agreement.

"We don't call her the Deadly Night Shade for nothing." Blitz said proudly.

Danika pulls out her sword and approaches the frozen hog that's still breathing. Once she's close, she whispers to the hog.

"Sorry for this."

With that, she stabs the hog in the neck, instantly slaughtering it. Striker approaches her.

"I'm impressed, Danika. Never knew you had that kill in you."

"You'd be surprised at how training can change you." Danika said before noticing something on the hog. "Hold on..."

"What is it?" Striker asked, seeing her look.

Danika senses a movement inside the hog's stomach. Kneeling down, she looks around its body for anything before looking towards the butthole. Danika takes a deep breath and digs her hands into the hole, shocking the imps. She moves her hand around to touch anything until she finds it and grabs a hold of it before pulling it out to reveal a baby pig as it squeals. She sees a string thingy attached to its testicle and cuts it off but not too far.

"It's a boy." Danika said, holding up a baby pig.

"Huh. I didn't know that hog was a mother." Joe said.

Striker couldn't be more impressed as he watches Danika look down at the baby pig with a soft smile. He was expecting her to be grossed out since she's a royal princess, but he didn't expect her to be so calm and not fazed with it. Striker approaches the dead hog and carries it over his shoulder.

"Can I keep him?" Danika asked Joe and Lin.

"Well, you did slaughter the hog, so I don't see why not." Lin shrugged.

"You earned it from that impressive kill you pulled." Joe added.

This made Danika happy as she gently stroke the baby pig. Moxxie rubs his neck.

"Ow... My clavicle!"

Seeing that, Danika approaches him with concern and helps him up.

"You alright, Mox?"

"Y-Yeah. I'm fine. Thanks, Danika." Moxxie said.

Striker stands over Moxxie, his spade tail rattling like a snake.

"Don't worry, little one... You never stood a chance."

Striker walks away with the dead hog over his shoulder. Moxxie growls at him with Danika glaring disapproval at Striker.

"Hey, boss man! You wanna help the men skin this thing for dinner?" Striker asked Blitz.

"Oh, I am always down to skin the manly meat with the manly men!" Blitz grinned.

"That's what she said!" Loona said with a grin.

"What "who said"? Wait, what bitch is talking shit about me?!" he demanded angrily.

"It's just an expression." Danika assured him.

"Oh..."

Everyone but Millie and Moxxie leave for the house with the demon hog. Danika follow them to clean up the newborn baby pig. Moxxie sighs sadly with his arm in a cast. Millie comforts him.

"Don't let 'em get to you. And hey, you don't need my parents to respect you. They will eventually." Millie reassured her husband.

Sallie May comes in and leans against the fence.

"No, they won't." she stated.

Millie glares at her with a growl.

"What? I'm right, ain't I?" Sallie said.

"Oh, I'mma enter in those games." Moxxie declared with a drawl.

Millie sighs sadly, knowing she can't change his mind. Sallie appears out of nowhere.

"Hmm, how pissed would you be if I bet on him dyin'?"

Millie glares at her again.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next day after having a hog for dinner and some good night rest, Danika, Stolas, Blitz, Moxxie, Millie, Sallie, and Striker are in the train. Danika looks down at the piglet who's sleeping in her bag. She smiles and pets him.
"Whatcha gonna name that little fella?" Millie asked.
"I'm gonna call him... Aiden." Danika said, circling her finger around his head.
"Aww!" Sallie cooed.
Danika suddenly gasp to hear a horn whistle from the train.
"The whistle! That means we must be passing by something exciting!" she said, looking through the window.
"Is it horses?! Please tell me there will be horses!" Blitz said excitedly, looking through the same window as hers.
"Or dangerous." Stolas said, looking unsure.
"Can I go out and see?" Danika asked.
"Uh... sure."
Danika pass sleeping Aiden to Sallie and happily left through the door as she heads into a storage area and sees a far end. She opens the door and finds herself outside at the back of the train, making her gasp. She looks out at the high mountains that are just past by. Her eyes widen.
"Wow." Danika gasped.
Suddenly, she hears the horses whinnying and looks over to see a herd of wild demonic horses is galloping alongside the train. But there was one horse that caught her eye as it's leading the hers. She sees a dark blue horse with purple flaming mares and tail. The lead horse looks right at Danika, who looks surprised.
Danika smiles and reaches out her hand. A horse is almost close enough for her to touch. She looks over and gasps and warns the horse.
"Look out!"
A rope almost lands on the horse's back. Two imp cowboys appear behind the herd and chasing. The lead horse neighs and the rest of the herd turns and runs off. The cowboys close in on the lead horse. Danika tries to get their attention by waving at them.
"Leave her alone!"
"Danika!"
Just as Blitz grabs her, the cowboys captured the horse with three ropes around its neck.
"No!" Danika cried out.
"Danika, don't! I know how much you want to help, but there's nothing we can do!" Blitz said, pulling her.
Danika and the horse look at each other as the train speeds away. Later, they returned to the compartment as Blitz explained to Stolas, who looks worried and upset.
"Outrageous! Flinging yourself at the trails with no regard for your own safety! What were you thinking? You could've jumped right off the back of the train if Blitzy hadn't stopped you!" Stolas scolded her.
"I needed to help her!" Danika argued back.
"Help who?" Stolas raised his eyebrow.
"This horse, this wild horse was racing the train when these horrible men came and thew ropes on her." she explained.
This made Stolas calm down and gently assures her.
"Oh, no, no, Danika. Those are mesteneros. They're just taking the horse to be broken."
"Broken?!"
"It means trained."
This made Danika frown upon that. Striker was silently listening to their conversation the whole time and seemed interested in Danika's worry for a wild horse.
"Don't worry. They won't hurt her." Stolas said.
"But--"
"She'll be fine. I promise." Stolas placed his hands on her shoulders before hugging her.
Eventually, the train pulls into a station of small town. Later, Danika and others are now in town, looking down at the street. Stolas looks down at the sadden Danika and takes her hand. She smiles and holds his arm as they explore the town.
"Well, Danika. Welcome to the Wrath. What to you think?" Stolas said.
Danika looks at the town hall and a few shops.
"It looks lovely. Why are we here?"
"To watch a show of who will be able to tame the wildest horse in Wrath and ride it. And you just happened to see the wildest one that you've caught sight in." Stolas explained.
"It's a tradition." Striker added.
Danika hears a familiar horse whinnies and turns to see the cowboys pulling the lead horse with the rope.
"Watch her! Pick up the slack!"
"Whoa!"
Danika points at the horse.
"That's her! That's the horse!"
The horse sees Danika and whinnies. Danika tries to run after the horse if it wasn't for Stolas grabbing her arm and pulling her back.
"You said they wouldn't hurt her." she said.
"They aren't. She's just not used to being handled. She's too wild." Stolas said as the horse buckled back and forth. "She'll settle down in a few days."
The horse kicks up the ground. Striker shoves Danika away from the flying mud that was made from the horse.
"Oh! Uh, thanks."
"I know how much you care for that horse. But if you want to save that horse, you have to try and win it by beating the Rattlesnake Jake." Striker explained.
"Who's Rattlesnake Jake?"
"One of the most dangerous Western diamondback rattlesnake outlaw who never leaves the town without taking at least a single soul. He wins every day on wildest horses he finds interesting for himself and his goons."
"I see... So how do I win?"
Striker raises his eyebrow.
"You're really considering competing?"
"I have to help that horse. She doesn't deserve to be tamed and deserves to be set free."
"I'm afraid they won't allow royal bluebloods like you to compete. They'll assume that you're cheating."
"Seriously?! Ugh! I need some fresh air!"
Danika then walked away to explore the town. Aiden sees her and jumps off of Sallie's arms and runs after her.
"Can't believe it. I'll show him that I can ride that horse without using magic. I never even use magic before." she grumbled.
In a nearby carrab, horses prance around happily. One of them tosses an apple at the wild horse and hits her in the nose. But she is not joining the game. She looks unhappy. Danika sees her and smiles. She walks up to the fence. Aiden follows her and stands up on two to lean against the fence to get a closer look as well.
"Hey, fella."
The horse chuffs and walks along the fence. Danika and Aiden follows her.
"What's the matter, girl? Don't you remember me from the train?"
The horse stops and looks at her and then gets saddened and looks away.
"I'm sorry to see you cooped up in here."
Danika thinks for a moment then reaches into her lunch bag.
"Would an apple help?"
Danika holds up the apple. The horse hesitates. Danika tosses an apple in her hand a few times. The horse then slowly moves towards her. Danika takes a bite of the apple.
"Mmm. Sure you don't want some?"
Danika holds out the apple. The horse carefully takes a few more steps towards her.
"It's okay, fella. I'm not gonna hurt you. You're alright."
When she gets close enough, Danika playfully touches her nose.
"Boop."
This made the horse jumps back with a look of surprise on her face, making Danika laugh. She then tosses her the apple and the horse catches it in her mouth and eats it then moves in for Danika to pet her.
"I guess you needed that."
Suddenly, the horse pulls back to reveal a sandwich in her mouth as she somehow steals it from Danika's lunch bag. Danika looks down at a now empty lunch bag and laughs.
"Hey!"
The horse then notices Aiden, who oinks cutely. She leans down and gives the piglet a gentle nudge, making the piglet smile and nuzzle. Danika smiles at how cute they are. Just then, she hears Stolas calling out for her.
"Oops. I better go."
Danika grabs Aiden and runs off, but stops and turns back at the other horses. She goes back to the horse she was talking to.
"Tell you what. I'm gonna make lots of friends today and so should you."
She points at the other three horses, making the horse chuff at her.
"I know, but we're stuck here, so we might as well make the best of it, okay?"
The horse thinks for a moment and then nods her head, making Danika laugh again before running off to find her dad.
"Remember our promise!"
