We're lost?!
We ran as far as we could, the carnage behind us.
I checked behind me to see the others keeping pase, with the little girl riding on Edwardo's shoulders.
We were a good distance away from that train wreck when I looked around to see a barren wasteland. There was nothing here. Absolutely nothing.
I groaned, as I stopped, and everyone else did too.
"Does anyone have a map?" I asked, and everyone shook their head.
The little girl scampered off of Edwardo's shoulders and ran ahead.
I took a breath, my mouth dry. I looked around for some water, but there wasn't any, except for what was in the sack, and we were saving that.
Silica looked too, and she huffed in annoyance.
"Well never find anythin' round here." She said, pessimistically.
"I think we might find something." Edwardo said, optimistically.
I sighed, as I put a hand to my forehead and took a step. And another. And another.
Till I was pacing on the sandy dunes of new Mexico.
Silica sighed in annoyance once again.
"Habu, stop yer pacing." She called out, but I didn't stop.
'Ritsu.' I thought. 'He must be worried sick.' I continue.
"Where'd the squirrel go?" Edwardo asked, and I looked up in confusion.
"Squirrel?" I asked.
"Yea, the young'en lass I was carin' for." Silica said, her accent getting thicker since she was more stressed.
"Oh, well, where'd she run off to?" I asked, looking around.
She tapped Edwardo's shoulder, as she had mysteriously shown up.
"Oh, here she is." Edwardo said.
She looked at me, specifically, as her eyes were wide and filled with hope. She pulled herself up, and sat on Edwardo's shoulders, as she tapped his head. She pointed to a spot off in the desert.
"I think she found somethin." Silica said, looking a little more hopeful.
"Alright, squirrel, lead the way." I said, excited.
'Im coming, Ritsu. Just hang on.' I thought.
The little girl ran through the sandy dunes, as we all struggled to catch up behind her.
She smiled, before stopping suddenly at the top of a sand dune.
Edwardo looked over the sand dune and smiled.
Silica made it over next, smiling as she saw it too.
Then, finally, I saw it.
An oasis, with a giant body of water and palm trees.
Squirrel smiled, as she waited, hoping we'd like it.
Ed smiled, patting her head. "Good job." He said, grinning.
"Thank you, squirrel." I said, smiling kindly.
Squirrel smiled, happily, as she raced for the oasis.
"Well, what're we waitin' for." Silica said, as she raced after her.
'I'll cone find you, Ritsu, but I have to stay alive first.' I thought, as I followed, clinging my arm to my chest.
