A new kid?!
The kids nodded and got into formation behind Aunty Clair. I was in the back helping the stragglers.
Hina, the littlest of us all, tripped.
"Bubby!" She cried out.
"I got you." I said, picking her up and holding her in my arms.
On our walk back home, Hina fell asleep in my arms. I chuckled at her sleeping form and continued to walk home.
Aunty put up her arm and all of us stopped. I smiled at their cooperation. Aunty pulled out her key and unlocked the door. Once she got out if the way, all of the kids rushed in except Kika and I. Kika looked at me, then back at the house.
The house was kinda run down and old. Its brown wood fading and peeling. The old, small mansion was way too small to support 15 kids, only containing 5 big rooms and a lot of closets. One of the windows needed repairs and the patio was extremely run down. Their were holes in the fence around the house. But it was home.
"Welcome home. This may not look like a good house, but that doesn't make it a bad home." I told Kika, usuing my favorite quote.
She looked up at me and smiled, running in to go join her other 'siblings.'
I walked in after her, careful not to wake Hina. I approached the girls room and opened the door. It lead to a big room with dressers and desks, but no beds. I opened up the closet decorated with candy and childish writing and opened it, placing Hina on the little bed inside the closet.
After putting her down in her bed, I gave Hina a kiss on the forehead and closed the door.
'I need to go talk to Kika. She needs to know her responsibilitys as one of the older children.' I thought.
I went into the living room, grabbed all of the markers and glue and stickers I could find. Then, I sat down on the couch.
"Kika!" I shouted, making her come from in the kitchen.
"Yes." She said, timidly.
'We need her to open up, unless she's another Moka." I thought.
"Its ok, I'm not going to bite you, and neither should anyone here." I said, getting a giggle to come out of her.
I patted the seat next to me and she timidly walked over here and sat next to me.
"So, now that you live here, there are some unspoken rules. First, we care for one another. Meaning, you will help with the littler ones." I stopped, giving her time to understand what I'm saying.
"Continue." She said.
"Second, we don't have all that much, so spend it wisely. And finally, if Aunty needs a break, let her have one. She stays up all night doing work and stays up all day playing with us." I told her.
She nodded in agreement and I smiled.
"Good, so you understand?" I asked her.
"Yes." She said, a small smile on her face.
"Ok, so here's your supplies." I said, handing her the glue and stickers.
"What is this for?" She asked, curiously.
"To decorate you door, silly." I explained.
"What door?" She asked.
"I'll have someone show you." I told her.
I heard a ruckus come from outside and I cringed a little.
'I'll go check up on them in a minute.' I thought.
"Now, I have a question for you." I asked. "Are you from a rich family or a poor family?"
"W-why do you w-want to know?" She stumbled over her words.
"I need to know." I said, simply.
"I'm from a rich family." Kika said, looking down at the ground.
"What's your address?" I asked her, a devious plot coming to my mind.
"Umm, Windrow Sycamore 922. Why?"
"I'm going to do something bad, but its for a good reason. So, don't tell or follow me. I'm putting you in charge of the girls along with Miyu." I told her, simply.
She just stared at me, until Moka came in with 2 squirming 5 year old boys and a annoyed 8 year old.
"Daiki, Taiga, Sota. What did you do this time?" I asked, not pleased.
"Sota claims that they were bothering him." Miyu said, pointing to Daiki and Taiga.
I sighed.
"Miyu, would you mind bringing Kika to her room to decorate?"
"No, I don't mind. Come on." Miyu said, happily.
I watched as they went upstairs, then I turned to the boys.
"Why?" I asked.
"We just wanted to play!" Daiki said, looking at Sota.
"Well, I was trying to take care of Sora. She caught a fever again." Sota said, looking sad.
"How bad is it?" I asked.
"Not too bad, but she isn't feeling the best." Sota said.
I got up from the couch and walked up the stairs, Daiki, Taiga, and Sota following me.
I stopped at the top of the stairs and turned to the 5 year olds.
"Hey, you know the rules. Only me and Sota are allowed in the girls room." I told them.
They frowned, but walked downstairs to the 3 other 5 year olds and to Soshi, the 12 year old.
Sota speed walked to Sora's closet bed. The door was left open and there lay a sleeping Sora.
I put my hand to her forehead.
'Hmm, kinda warm. Not to hot, though.' I thought.
"She'll be ok, Sota. Its just a little fever." I told him.
He sighed in relief.
"I'll be going, I have to check on Aunty and the 7's." I told him.
He nodded and stayed by Sora's side.
I walked out of the room, closing the door quietly. I walked down to the living room and heard
"Vroom!"
Daiki said, driving around his wooden toy car.
"Hi, guys. Do you know where Ryuta and Moka are?"
Taiga had a small, homemade, wooden puppet to play with and he used the puppet to point into the kitchen.
"Thanks." I told him.
I watched Airi play with her handmade baby doll, singing her a lullaby. Euru was playing with his homemade robot.
I smiled and walked into the kitchen to see Moka, Ryuta, and Aunty making dinner.
