Ch. 3: What Lies Within the Woods
The next morning, you're downstairs eating breakfast. You, Doris, your mom and dad. You eat and you say, "Mm. Good as always, mother." She says, "Thank you, dear." You say, "I wish I were twice as good at cooking meals as you are."
Your dad says, "Honey. You're very good. Your mom taught you all she could to do so. You'll want to cook for your husband one day." You sigh and you say, "If I find a husband." Your mom says, "Honey. You will. You're a lovely young lady. You and Doris both. Doris still has time though since she's only eight years old."
You eat your breakfast and you say, "I feel like there's something weird lurking in the woods." Doris looks at you. Your mom and dad look at you, as well. Your dad says, "Something weird?" You say, "Yeah. Not like birds chirping loudly or wolves howling or anything. Yesterday while I got into my new room, I saw a hand on a tree."
Your mom says, "Dear. The woods can be scary. It was all just your imagination." You say, "Yeah. Maybe you're right, mother." She says, "Don't feel left out, dear. The woods. Basements. Those can be really terrifying places. I've feared basements for the longest time since childhood. That's why when moving here, I've dreaded going down there, myself. So, don't feel alone on this, honey."
You say, "I'm still going to investigate. Make sure it's just wolves or birds or bugs." Your dad says, "Take your sister with you." Doris says, "Me? The woods?" You say, "It'll be alright, Doris. We'll do this while the sun is still up." She says, "Okay. So long as it's still daylight, I'm okay with it. Stay with me." You say, "I will. I promise." You all eat your breakfast.

Later on, you're in the backyard. You've already got some bedsheets hanging on the clothesline. Doris is outside with you. Your mom sent you out to get the sheets off the line and into the basket.
So, you're doing that right now. You take the white sheets down from the line and you put them in the basket. Doris is sitting on a white wicker bench and kicking her legs a bit as she waits. You kneel down and you grab the basket. You get up and you pick it up. You carry it towards the backdoor. You open the door and you head inside the house with the basket.
Doris looks towards the woods. She sees a path and she gets up. She walks over there to get a closer look. She says, "I know they say curiosity killed the cat, but I'm curious as to what's in there. And not wolves or birds or..." She gulps and says, "Spiders." She shivers and says, "I hate spiders."
You come back out of the house, to the backyard and you see Doris about to walk into the woods. You yell, "Doris! Wait until I come with you! Come over here!" She sighs and says, "Fine." She turns around and she walks to you.
You say, "You say you're afraid of the woods. Yet, you try and go in there without my guidance." She says, "Sorry, sis." You sigh and you say, "It's alright. You want to go in there?" She says, "Sure." You say, "Alright. But we need to stay on the path, okay?"
You both approach the woods and you stand on the path. You say, "Remember. Stay on the path." She nods. You hold hands and you say, "Here we go." You and your little sister walk into the woods, staying on the path as you do.
The sun is shining through the trees as you walk through. You look around and you say, "It's not so bad during the day. I can't imagine the night, though." Doris looks ahead and she says, "And you said you saw a shadowy figure?" You say, "Yeah. Looked to be a man. I'm getting to the bottom of this. I have to find out who this is, hiding in the woods." Doris nods.
It takes about two minutes, but you and Doris look up a hill in the woods and you see a small house. Doris says, "There was a house back here?" You say, "I wonder if anyone lives here. They can't if hardly anyone can find this house." Doris says, "Why did they build a house in the middle of the woods?" You say, "No telling, Doris."
You and Doris walk up the hill and you get close to the house. You approach the door and you knock. Nothing. You say, "Hello?! Anyone home?!" Still nothing. You knock again and you and Doris wait. She clings to you and you hold her close.
You see the knob twisting and Doris gasps. You prepare yourself for who's behind the door. It slowly opens. Only slightly. You see a pair of eyes looking out. A deep masculine voice says, "Who is it? How did you find me? Leave immediately. I can't be seen."
You say, "Why not? Who are you?" He says, "That's none of your business, miss." You say, "Just get out here! Now!" He groans and says, "Alright, alright." The door opens and you see the most handsome man walking out of there. You blush.
He looks at you. He's got bright blue eyes, dirty blonde hair, a scar on his right eye, white shirt, black suspenders, black pants, etc. He takes a good look at you and he whispers, "Well, I'll be damn." You say, "Hi."
He says, "How did you find me?" You say, "The path, obviously." He says, "Ah shit. That's right. The goddamn path." He sees Doris and says, "She your sister or what?" You nod and you say, "Yeah. I'm (Y/N) (L/N). This is Doris." Doris says, "Hi, mister."
He says, "I see... Why don't you two uh, come inside?" Doris clings to you and says, "F-for what? Y-y-you're not going to eat us, are you?" He says, "Nah. Just 'cause I hide in the woods doesn't make me some cannibalistic maniac who eats human flesh, kid." You say, "Alright. We'll come in." You and Doris walk in and he shuts the door.
You look around. It's a small place. It's all one room and a separate door, what could possibly be a bathroom. There's a fireplace going and a lamp on in the corner. You look at him and you say, "You never did tell us your name, sir." He looks at you and says, "My name? It's Hector Springtrap."
Doris says, "Why do you live in the middle of the woods, Mr. Springtrap?" You say, "Exactly what I want to know. You were that silhouette staring up at me last night, weren't you?" He says, "Yes. That was me. I only walk out at night. I had to get food somehow besides having to hunt down whatever animal I could find. Even if it's a bird. Sit down and I'll tell you both how I got back here in the first place." He looks at you and you look at him. There's a sudden spark as you look at each other. You all sit down.
