Ch. 2: New Place/What Lurks in the Woods?

A couple hours go by. You make it to Clinton. The car radio is playing the song Across the Alley from the Alamo by Mills Brothers. It was certainly a smaller town. You look around. Doris says, "It's strange not seeing too many people walking around."

Your dad says, "Well, honey. That's because we are in a smaller town. It's not a big, populated city like Chicago." You say, "The new house has to be much better. More space." Your mom says, "We'll have a front and backyard as well, girls. You'll have your own rooms. Because there's also an extra room where we can have a guest stay with us. It would be nice to have some peace and quiet from the loud city. Even the loud neighbor we've had next door." Your dad says, "At least Jim was nice to the girls." Your mom says, "Well, yes. He was. I'll give him that."

You make it to your new house and you and Doris look out. You gasp and you say, "Wow. This is our house?" Doris says, "It's so big." Your dad says, "That's right, girls. This is our home, now." You smile and you say, "Wow. And we finally have a front and backyard, too."

(What the house looks like. Pic above.)

Your dad parks in the driveway and you all get out. You grin and so does Doris. You both run around. Doris does a cartwheel and you run to a tire swing on the tree. You sit in it and you begin to swing. You say, "I love this! We have a tire swing! I've always wanted one!" Doris lays on the grass.

Your mom and dad smile. Your mom says, "The girls love it, already." Your dad says, "I figured they would. This is a better environment for them." As you swing, your tire swing turns you to the back. The woods which are located not too far from your backyard. About fifty feet from it. You feel something is off about the woods, but you shrug it off and you keep swinging.

Doris sits up and she says, "Wow. It's so pretty here." You look around and you say, "I know. I could live here, forever." Your mom says, "Girls. You can play out here, later. Why don't we all go inside for now, huh?" You stop the tire swing and you say, "Coming, mother."

You get off the swing and you and Doris walk to your parents. Your dad says, "You two head upstairs and pick your rooms while you're at it. Your mother and I are taking one downstairs." You and Doris look at each other and you both smile.

You take her hand and you say, "Come on." She says, "Okay." You and Doris head for the front door. Your mom says, "I'm so glad the girls get along. I've taught (Y/N) to be the protective elder sibling she is now right after Doris was born."

You grip the doorknob and you say, "I wonder if it's locked." You turn it and you get it opened. You say, "Huh. I guess it wasn't. I guess if there isn't much inside at the moment until we get our stuff moved in."

The movers show up and they park on the side of the road. They get out and they get stuff from the back of the moving van. You and Doris head inside. You look around and you say, "Wow. Look at this place."

Doris says, "It's like a castle compared to the apartment and it's not that large." You say, "Big enough. This is nice. I love it here, already. Come on. Let's find the stairs and find our rooms. You can have whichever bedroom you want." She smiles and says, "Okay."

You and Doris find the stairs and you head upstairs. You see a hallway and you say, "Alright. Pick yours." Doris looks to see three doors on the left, leading to the front side of the house. She checks each one.

She finds the one on the right and says, "This one." She goes in the room. You go to the other side and you find a room leading to the back. You open the door and you smile saying, "Perfect. A view of the backyard."

You head into your new room and you look around. You smile and you say, "I like this." You walk towards the window and you look out. You look towards the woods. You look and you gasp. You see a hand gripping a tree, but then it disappears into the woods.

You say, "What the hell was that? Am I imagining things?" You sigh and you say, "Never mind, it." You look at the backyard from there to see a typical clothesline to hang laundry out to dry. The grass is a nice healthy green. There are a few bushes near the house. And so on. You move away and you head out of the room.

You walk to Doris' room and you say, "Hey. Doris." She looks over at you and says, "Yeah, sis?" You say, "Come downstairs. Let's see if mom and dad need help." She says, "Okay." She gets up and she walks out of the room.

You look towards the door of the other room on Doris' side and you say, "I guess that will be the guest bedroom. The door next to my room must be a bathroom. Dad told us this place has two bathrooms. One upstairs and one downstairs." Doris nods. You both head downstairs.

You get downstairs and Doris says, "I'm getting kind of hungry." You hear your mom saying this, "As soon as the movers get our table in here and I bring our food in here, I'll make dinner." You and Doris look over at her. She says, "Both of you grab your things from the car." You say, "Alright, mom." Doris nods. You both head out of the house to help.

Later on at night, you're up in your room. The movers got yours and Doris' beds up there. Your dad will be buying a new bed soon for the guest room. You're sitting back on your bed. Your radio is playing the song Stormy Weather by Lena Horne.

You're reading a scary story book. You end up finding one that catches your eyes. It's titled 'The Thing That Lurks in the Woods.' You look towards the window and you put the book down. You get up from your bed and you walk towards the window.

You look towards the woods and you focus on the same spot. You realize something as you take a closer look. There's a path. You say, "My god. There's a path, leading into the woods. And I swear I saw a hand, earlier. There must be someone living in the woods. I have to find out what or who this is."

You suddenly see something. You see a silhouette stepping out of the woods and you gasp. You inspect it. It looked like the shape of a man. You say, "Who is that?" They look up and you gasp. They get a close look at you, but you don't see their face.

They turn around and they head back into the woods. You say, "Weird." You move away from the window. You say, "Maybe during the day, it won't be so bad. I'm still going to investigate and find out who that is. I'm going into the woods, tomorrow." You get back to your bed and you sit down. You pick the book up and you continue reading the chapter that caught your eye.
