Chapter 7 page 3

A couple of weeks passed as we entered into the end of summer. My estranged relationship with Abs was healing after some coaxing and running errands for him. Thinking of the best way for him to resume with his life, I extracted him out of his smelly flat and signed him up for a therapy session at House of Wrath. He refused at first but eventually agreed to join after I told him, "you get wreck whatever that's inside the room."

We arrived at the venue 10 minutes earlier as per their advice. They supplied us with forms for us to fill out to check our vital signs, stress levels and our personal particulars. Abs was already frustrated with the forms that I helped him to fill up.

"Are you currently under influence of any substances?" I asked.

"No, except for a couple of reefers and a beer, yeah." Abs answered blankly.

Hearing that, I checked the box just to be safe and continued, "Do you have any form of illness? Heart attack? High blood pressure?"

"No," he answered.

"Do you have any history of being violent?"

"Do you want me to?" he snapped.

Once done, we signed the indemnity section in the forms and returned to the reception. We were briefed of the safety precautions of the room, we were allowed to smash whatever items inside the room except for the concrete walls and items painted in red and white stripes. Abs chose a sledgehammer while I selected baseball bat for our choice of weaponry. They equipped us with PPE suits with full face tactical gas masks and a pair of safety shoes to wear before we entered the room.

The room, partitioned by an asbestos wall divider, was big enough for us to go around and wreak havoc. Several household items and old electrical appliances, some were stacked nicely and some were just scattered around and were waiting to be beaten up. I spotted the air duct attached to the ceiling and a couple of columns supporting the room were wrapped in aforementioned red/white stripes noting that those areas are best be avoided.

I was deciding which items to smash first but Abs already had his sledgehammer aimed at the wall divider and wacked them hard. I was stunned by Abs craziness with his sledgehammer swinging left to right, creating damage to anything he could reach.

Then I stepped back, watching the joy and exhilaration in his face as he unleashed all the rage and resentment inside through that piece of metal head attached to its varnished wooden handle. He screamed with excitement when the hammer hit the screen of an old box telly, it began to crescendo.

"Oh! This is fuckin' awesome. Arrghh!" he screamed after done breaking the telly, spreading his arms and tilted his head back like the Brazilian statue of Christ the Redeemer. He looked at me, grinning from ear to ear and pointed at a couple of squashes placed in a red/white striped container behind me. "Are you having that?"

I turned to the squash and shook my head. "You can have them. Take this bat instead, you'll hit them better with this."

I handed the bat to him and he rested the sledgehammer by the wall. He held the grip closer to his face slightly behind his ear and he strode with his front foot. I held the melon with my both hands like a baseball pitcher, took a small step backward before lifting my left knee in the air, pivoted and threw the squash towards him. He exploded back in, flung the bat forward in full force as the barrel came in contact with the flying squash, crushing the fruit down. The juices of the fruit splattered across the room, crumbling to the floor and its debris scattered around us. We screamed in triumph, pulling out both of our masks off and hopping around in ecstasy.

Suddenly we stopped and facing each other. Our increasing breaths heightened as our unmoved stares into each other's eyes grew intense. I fell for his smile that the unshowered odour didn't bother me that much. He stepped forward towards me and placed his palm on my shoulder. "Cheers for doing this to me."

"Hey, I've got your back anytime," I smiled back.

He drew another inch, indicating that he was ready to kiss me. And he actually does. He bent down, face came closer to mine.

Andthat was when a muffled voice echoed from a loudspeaker attached to the wall,"For safety, please have your masks on inside the room at all times. Thankyou."
