Prologue: Old Talents
Kazuya sighed as he walked around the streets of Tokyo. It had been a few days since his almost confession towards Chizuru and he couldn't help but think if what he did was a mistake or not. Needing time to think, he decided a nice walk would be good for him to help ease the stress he was feeling. During his walk however, he came across a set of buildings that he didn't remember being there. Looking at the sign, it read Tokyo Institute of Music.
"Hm, this place seems interesting" Kazuya commented.
"Yo, Kazuya" a voice called out.
Turning to see who it was, Kazuya was quite surprised to see who called him. Standing in front of him was a guy roughly the same height as Kazuya. He was dressed casually like most people, wearing a blue hoodie jacket, grey shirt, brown trousers, and green trainers. His black hair was pushed towards the right side of his head and there were frameless glasses over his green eyes. Sitting behind his back was a very large black case.
"Kenji" Kazuya exclaimed, shaking his hand.
"In the flesh" Kenji replied, returning the handshake. "It's been a while since I've seen you"
"Yeah, the last time we saw each other was just after you graduated from music school" Kazuya added.
"So, have you still been playing any music?" Kenji asked.
"Uh, no, I've been quite busy and haven't played in just over a year" Kazuya answered.
"Well, you can join me in this place" Kenji explained, pointing at the Institute, "They give many people with music talent opportunities"
"Like a university?" Kazuya asked.
"Kind of, but you actually work here as musicians for things like recordings, orchestras, events etc." Kenji explained.
"Wow, that actually sounds pretty good" Kazuya commented.
"If you want, I can help you get in, just call me" Kenji told him, pulling out his phone. The two exchanged numbers and Kazuya left to think about it.
'Honestly, with all that has happened these past few months, maybe this might take away some of the stress' Kazuya thought, 'Yeah, I'll join, it'll help take my mind off things"
2 Days later
After talking to Kenji on the phone about joining, he was able to get a place at the Institute. All he needed to do was to pick up his stuff from his family home. Just as he was leaving, he so happened to bump into Chizuru who was about to enter her apartment. Awkwardness filled the air a bit, so she decided to break the silence.
"Hi Kazuya" She greeted.
"Hello Mizuhara" Kazuya replied.
"You doing something?" Chizuru asked.
"Yeah, just need to pick some stuff up from my parents' place" Kazuya answered, "It was nice talking but I gotta go"
"Alright, see ya" Chizuru said as he ran off. In her mind, she couldn't help but wish she told him the truth. Remembering what she said before, her heart really wanted him to know how she felt. Chizuru sighed at the thought. "Why did I have to be so stubborn about this, if I told him, I would've been with him already". Shaking her head, she went back into her apartment.
At the Kinoshita's house, Kazuya greeted everyone before going through the storage closet to find what he needed. After searching for roughly 15 minutes, he managed to find what he came for. Two black musical instrument cases, one was small and rectangular, the other was larger and had a distinct shape of a guitar.
"What are you going to do with those?" His grandmother asked.
"I got a job at a Music Institute, so I just needed to get my stuff for it" Kazuya explained.
"Are you sure you can still play music?" Nagomi questioned.
"I know it has been a while, but I'm confident I can do it" Kazuya happily answered.
Leaving their home, he made his way back to his apartment, carrying both cases. Upon returning, he changed out of his clothes and opened both cases. The guitar shaped one was obviously a guitar. It was a black electric guitar, and it was still in pristine condition. The other case held a trumpet, something he loved playing when he was younger.
"Let's see if I can still play it" Kazuya exclaimed.
Picking up the trumpet, he put the mouthpiece on and started buzzing. The sound came out nice and crisp. It did need a bit of tuning, so he positioned the tuning slide a bit and took out his phone with the tuner app to check so. After playing a bunch of notes, he played a bit of Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. Happy with the results, he picked up the guitar and plugged it into his amplifier and strummed it for a bit. After tuning it, he played a bunch of notes and was happy with how it turned out.
"I still got it, I guess a year and a half break won't stop the musician" Kazuya laughed.
Meanwhile, outside, Chizuru was returning home and heard all that music that was being played.
"Just who might be playing that?" She questioned.
