Chapter 2

Rachel walks in a hurry, in the hallway, as she bumps into her best friend, Hathor.

Hathor said, "Girl, you look like you just went through a hurricane. First practice of the season hasn't started yet."

The young girl drops her pomp -pomps as she said, "Sorry that you have to wait for me, Hathor."

Hathor smiles, "It's no big deal, Rach. Besides, I was beginning to wonder wither you show up or not.

What exactly happen?"

As she was going to explain the boy she has helped earlier, a voice boomed through the gym, "All right, ladies, let's go through the routine again!"

It was Ashley Hofferson, the leader of the Cheerleader team, who wants the team to absolutely perfect, for the school basketball team to go into the finals.

Hathor said, pouting, "I still can't believe that she gets to be the team leader of the Cheerleaders again this year.

It's like it's her desperate motive for attention in front of the whole school.

How is things back at home?"

Rachel lives with her divorced father and her twin brother, Timothy, who prefers his name to be "Tim" ,

The siblings never get along in school unless it is at home.

"Tim and I are doing ok, I guess. He doesn't like to talk about our mother because our parents' relationship didn't go so well."

Timothy came in along with Scott said, "Awe, look, it's the little cheerleaders.

You're so going to cheer for me in the sidelines."

Hathor groans in annoyance, because of his attitude, "Come on, Rach, I am beginning to lose my lunch."

Rachel and Hathor managed to get away from the boys, as Hathor said, "Finally, we lost them."

But Rachel wasn't actually listening to Hathor.

"I wonder, who is that boy I have saved earlier? I didn't even managed to get that boy's name." She thought in her mind.

"Rach, Rachel, are you there?" Hathor said, as the young cheerleader finally met her best friend's eyes.

"Sorry, Hathor. I guess that I have something in my mind." The girl apologizes as the black -haired girl sighs with regret.

"I swear, once there is something on your mind, you were a completely different person. What were you thinking about?" Hathor asks her with a curious expression on her face.

Rachel didn't know what to say to her. It's like something in her heart raced when she first saw the boy, and doesn't know what it is, or it is meant to be.

"It's nothing to be concern about, Hathor." Rachel said, trying to hide the truth of helping a mysterious boy.

"At this rate, I know something is going on." Hathor said, walking away to her locker as Rachel sighs with relief.

She went to her locker and went to her first class of the day, which is Spanish.

What she didn't suspect that there was an empty seat next to her.

"Hola, class." The teacher said, greeting the students.

"Hola!" The class responded. The teacher shushes the class. "Today we have a new transfer student here in Berksville High.

I want you to be nice to him and treat him with respect."

Rachel was curious of who the new student might be, as with her stunned surprise, it was the boy she has met earlier!

"Oh, snap! He's in my class, and I helped him out without introducing myself?!? Way to make an first impression, Rach." She thought in her mind , hysterically as the boy was embarrassed and shy at the same time in front of the whole class.

Hayden was nervous of being introduced in front of the whole class. What is going to say?

Then something caught his eye, an familiar face. It was the girl that saved him, and he was calmed down from his nervous and finally did a breath of fresh air to gather up the courage he needed.

"You can call me Hayden. I'm Hayden Haddock, I may not look much, but there is more to meets the eye." He said.

He notices the girl as he waves a little at her, as she was covering herself by putting her head to the desk.

"You can sit down on the seat next to Ms. Thorston." The teacher told him, as he walks to the empty seat next to her.

He said, "I'm so sorry that I didn't introduce myself earlier. Let's start over."

The girl didn't reply right away as if something was on her mind.

"It's Rachel. Call me Rachel." She said.

Hayden repeats, in a curious tone, "Rachel, huh? Well, I'm glad that we met today."

As the bell rang, Hayden closes his locker to put the books away, as Freddy said, "Dude, I can't believe you."

"What, Freddy? Is something wrong?" The boy asks curiously.

"You don't realize it, but you just made friends with one of the cheerleaders of Berksville High." The boy responds as Hayden's eyes widen with total shock expression.

"You mean that Rachel Thorston is a cheerleader?" Hayden exclaims, looking back at the braided young teen as she was walking towards the gym.

"Yeah, you got some serious guts to make friends with her." Freddy points out.

Hayden's heart skips a bit , as if something about Rachel makes him happy.

"The school basketball game starts after school . Do you want to come?" Freddy asks, which causes him to grow more curious about Rachel Thorston.

"Sure, I guess." Hayden said, nervously, mostly not because of watching Rachel and the Cheerleaders, because Johnny would be there.

"Great, I want to see Rachel in action, but also don't want to see Johnny , he wouldn't like it one bit if he finds out his cousin is there."  He thought.

As they went inside the gym, the throng cheers in excitement as Hayden said, "Well, this is not good."

Freddy asks, "Why, it's nothing that bad about the basketball team."

"It's not the team I'm worried about. It's the their captain." He replies, pointing at the boy giving instructions to his teammates.

"You mean, Scott Jorgenson, the Captain of the Basketball team? Why you worried about that?" Freddy asks curiously.

"Well, you might be in shocked of this , Scott and I are cousins." Hayden said , grimly.

He fell out of his seat in total shock, as if the truth was a total surprise and unexpected reality.

"You're not joking? You and Scott are related?!?" Freddy exclaimed as Hayden covers his friend's mouth so the whole school doesn't hear him.

"Yeah. It's true. Hard to believe, isn't it?" Hayden said, looking at his cousin.

"Gee, I never thought of you and Scott knew one other." Freddy said.

But Hayden isn't exactly listening to Freddy at all, as he was mesmerized of Rachel's talents as she was demonstrating a summersault in thin air as light as a feather.

As she lands, their eyes meet, as if they can read each other's minds.

Rachel lands safely as the game ends, Hayden was the only one who was waiting for her.

"What you doing here?" She asks nervously. Hayden was scared for a bit, but then rubs his head, "I was wondering, maybe I can walk you home?

It's the least I can do since you saved me today. This is my way of thanking you."

Rachel's cheeks begin to grow red as she took his hand to walk her home.

"You were great out there. I .. I never seen anything like it before." Hayden said, trying to make the walk not awkward as it seems to be.

"I have been a cheerleader as a little girl. It's been a part of me." She said , trying to be honest.

"Well, I guess we're here." Hayden said, as they stopped at the Thorston Household.

"I guess I'll see you tomorrow then?" Hayden asks, turning around.

"I guess you will, Hayden ." Rachel said, but as she turns away from the boy, she thought, "He's different than all the boys I've met.

Why do I feel comfortable when I'm around him?"
