Chapter 16

The two weeks leading up to the Sports Festival quickly passed by, leaving Akina to do some last minute training near the Stadium.

In a one handed handstand, Akina found herself watching the crowd browse the stands that were set up. Pushing herself off the ground and landing on her feet, she took a deep breath to calm her nerves. If she was being honest with herself, she was more excited than nervous for the upcoming events, she just hoped she didn't go overboard.

-_-_-_-_-_-_-

"Hey! Make some noise my rabid sports fans!" Present Mic shouted, causing the crowd that had now gathered in the stadium to start cheering. "This year we're bringing you some of the hottest performances in Sports Festival History guaranteed! I've only got one question before we start this show— are you ready?"

As Present Mic was getting the crowd excited, Akina and the rest of her class were walking through the tunnel onto the field, each of them having a mixture of nervousness, excitement and determination on their faces.

"First onto the field is a group that's no stranger to the spotlight! Known for withstanding a villain attack, these dazzling students showed off their skills! The hero class 1-A!"

As Akina walked towards the middle of the feild with the rest of the class, she took note of the other classes that entered the field as Present Mic announced them. Hero course 1-B, general course classes C, D, and E, Support classes F, G, and, H. Finally the last course was the business course classes I, J, and K.

Each of the courses held interesting students that held their own unique smells to Akina, and she couldn't wait to see what type of challenge that they would bring.

"Now the introductory speech!" Someone shouted, and Akina was dragged out of her analysis of the other courses to see the hero on the podium— the R-rated hero Midnight.

"Someone should talk to Miss Mightnight about what she's wearing." Kirishima muttered from beside Akina.

"Is that really appropriate apparel for a high school game?" Tokoyami asked.

"Hm, it's not too bad. I've honestly seen worse at the other games I used to participate in." Akina said, glancing at the boys who looked slightly shocked at that news, and a Mineta who looked a bit jealous.

God, if they ever saw some of Erza's armor, or even Cana's regular attire. Akina thought to herself, letting out a small sigh.

"Silence everyone!" Midnight shouted, causing everyone that was chattering in the stands and among the classes to quit down. "And for the student pledge, we have Bakugo Katsuki!"

"He's the first year rep?" Midoriya asked.

"Makes sense, he did get first on the entrance exams." Akina stated. "Let's just hope he doesn't make the other classes hate us more than they already do." Looking at the blond who was now standing at the microphone, Akina hoped that he would be at least a slight bit respectful.

"I just wanna say, I'm gonna win." He said, and everyone around Akina seemed to freeze in shock. The red head just scratched the back of her head.

"I guess that was to be expected. He is an arrogant asshole after all." She muttered to herself with a shrug as the other courses started to boo him. "But he made the other courses hate us even more. So... good on him I guess."

After Bakugo left the stage, Midnight started to announce what the first event of the festival was going to be.

"Without further ado, it's time we get started! The first game is where it's all at! This is where you start feeling the pain. The first game of the Festival!" A screen appeared behind her and a blur of events went by until it settled on one, the words Obstacle Race shown boldly.

"And obstacle race, huh? Sounds like fun." Akina said to herself.

"All eleven classes will participate in this contest, the track is four kilometers outside the stadium, I don't want to restrain anyone, so as long as you don't leave the course, you're free to do whatever your heart desires! Now then, take your places, contestants!"

Akina followed the others to the main gate where the race would start, lingering a bit around the back of the crowd. Getting in a position ready to dart forwards, Akina watched with a slight smile as the green lights atop the gate started to count down, the last light shut off and everyone started running.

"And we're off to a racing start!" Present Mic announced, and Akina felt a smile make it's way to her mouth as she saw everyone get stuck in the narrow tunnel passage.

"Guess sticking back was a good plan." She mused, darting forwards and jumping up into the air, using the pushing and shoving students to jump through the tunnel. "Sorry, but not really~" She taunted, pushing herself off of the last student's head and exiting the tunnel. Some others had gotten out before her, but as she saw, they were struggling to skate on the ice. "Now that smells like Todoroki's ice." Akina said to herself as she landed on the slick surface, propelling herself forwards as she skated, it was slick, but not any slicker than the ice that Gray could make.

"That was a nice trick, but I guess you forgot that some of us can ice skate!" Akina shouted, jumping off the ice and slowly catching up to the icy-hot boy.

A sudden metallic smell hit Akina's nose and she slid to a stop, watching as a two pointer from the entrance exam hit Mineta, who was preparing to attack Todoroki. Though not only smaller robots were there, at least six of the giant zero-pointers were blocking the pathway for everyone.

"So this is what the others students faced in the entrance exams." Todoroki said from a few steps in front of Akina. And the red-headed girl watched as one of the zero pointers made a move to grab Todoroki, only to be frozen by the said teen that ran between their legs.

"He froze the robots!" One of the students shouted.

"Look, between the legs, we can get through!" Another one claimed.

"Oh Todoroki, you sly bastard." Akina muttered, hearing the creaks and groans from the frozen zero pointers. It wasn't long until they started to fall apart and started to block the passageway that had just been pointed out.

"That was a power move from Todoroki Shouto, I wouldn't expect nothing less from someone who got in through recommendation- wait, is that Miss Hayashi using the falling robot debris to get past this obstacle? No way!"

Just as Present Mic said, Akina was jumping from frozen robot part to frozen robot part as the debris fell to the ground. The action might seem reckless to most— and of course it was, but within Fairy Tail, this was almost a normal thing. Jumping off of the last piece of debris, Akina rolled a bit as she made contact with the ground, immediately getting to her feet and continuing the race.

Skidding to a stop, Akina found herself looking over a deep valley, pillars reaching up from the black depths with ropes acting as tightropes to help everyone get past the obstacles. Looking behind her to see the others students catching up, magic circles appeared at her hands and vines shot out of her palms, wrapping themselves around the nearest rope. Taking a few steps back, Akina ran forwards and jumped straight into the valley.

"Akina! Are you crazy?" Mina shouted as Akina swooped down into the dark abyss before swinging back up and landing steadily onto one of the stone pillars.

Turning around, Akina looked back at the pinkette with a smile on her face. "Extreamly." She shouted back before once again using the vines to swing toward another pillar. Once she reached the other side, she noticed that as well as Todoroki, Bakugo was also now ahead of her, having just flown over the valley.

"Now, the first few competitors are reaching the last obstacle! You'd better tread carefully, because you're all stepping onto a mine field!" Present Mic announced. "If you look carefully, you can see where those little bombs are buried, so keep your eyes on the ground folks. Bye the way, those land mines are designed for the games, so they might be loud and flashy, but they're not that powerful."

Reaching the said minefeild, Akina could already see Bakugo and Todoroki moving through it. Other students had caught up with her at this point, and she knew she had to act fast. Summoning a vine and manipulating it to tie around her waist, Akina started to take a few steps back, the vine stretching as she strained it. "One," she took five steps back, "Two," she adjusted her position slightly for a better aim, "Three," She wrapped her hair into a ponytail, "Go!" She lifted her feet off the ground and felt the vine unwrap itself around her waist, flinging her forwards and over the mine field. "I'm coming for you two!" She shouted once within ear shot of both Todoroki ad Bakugo.

"It seems like Miss Hayashi is full of surprises! In just a matter of seconds she has flung herself over the mine field and caught up to both Todoroki and Bakugo!" Present Mic announced. "And just like that, a new student takes the lead! With Hayashi's distraction, Bakugo took the chance to propel just ahead of young Todoroki!"

Feeling herself fall towards the ground, Akina summoned another vine and used it to propel herself upwards and forwards quickly, ignoring the giant explosions of pink smoke behind her.

"Whatever the case, class 1-A Midoriya Izuku is suddenly in hot pursuit of first place! Scratch that, the lead is his!" Apparently the explosion was caused by Midoriya. The boy had flown over the field, quickly overcoming the three that were in the lead.

Akina watched as both Todoroki and Bakugo made moves to now get ahead of Midoriya instead of fightning against each other. Akina kept on using vines to propel herself upwards, being careful not to set off any of the mines under the ground.

It wasn't long until the four of them passed the mine field and were running through the home stretch.

"Aizawa! Your students are amazing, what the heck are you teaching them?" Present Mic asked as the group ran towards the finish line.

"This has nothing to do with me. Each of them is powered by their own drive to succeed." Aizawa answered.

Akina felt the ground change from dirt to concrete as she entered the tunnel leading into the stadium, Bakugo, Todoroki, and Midoriya in clear sight in front of her, the three of them entering the stadium only a few seconds before she had.

"And the winner of the first event is Class 1-A's Midoriya Izuku!" Present Mic announced, the crowd roaring all around Akina.

Taking the time to catch her breath, Akina looked at the others who had finished the race before her.

I might of gotten fourth in this game, but once this is all over, I'll be the one to have first place.
