Two.
Aerith woke up on the couch still in their bodysuit. They looked at the clock on top of the TV. It read 7:45, also meaning they were running late. When you oversleep, time based powers come in handy. A flurry of purple ribbons fluttered around Aerith, transporting them back in time an hour. They glanced at the clock, which now read 6:44.
"Hell yeah! An hour and a minute!" They pumped their fist and went up to change into school clothes. They walked down the stairs half an hour later in a pair of jeans and a purple sweater. Their hero colors may be purple and blue but thats not just because they're flattering colors. Most heroes wear their favorite colors or at least the crappy heroes on the island do. Aerith was walking to school when their friend, Rowan ran up to their side.
"What's shakin bacon?" Rowan exclaimed throwing an arm over their shoulder. Aerith took his arm off their shoulders.
"Not much. Did you hear about that bank thing yesterday?" They mumbled. "I heard that Allegro kid really screwed up."
"Tempo wasn't even on TV. She never gets on TV." He chuckled.
"Uh...Tempo uses they pronouns." Aerith muttered. "They, them. Like me."
"Oh. I gotcha. I'll make sure to use that info." Rowan said. "So we have a history test today. You ready for that?"
"As ready as ever!" Aerith grinned. History was their favorite subject, not just because they could travel back in time to study. Rowan had this knack for sciences, all of them (especially life sciences).
Soon enough, the two were at school. Although, not many things happen at school besides the regular pass or fail, hallway makeouts, throwing shade, and everything else teenagers do. Even for superpowered teenagers, high school isn't some special thing where it's butterflies and bumblebees.
School was out for the day and Aerith was sitting on kids swings at the park. They were thinking about their life as Allegro. They punched the air weakly, pretending to fight a villain. "As if I'd ever be any good at this superhero thing. Never have been really." Out of defeat, they sat back down on the swing. A teenage boy clad in green descended from the tree in front of them.
"Well what's making this lovely kiddo so glum?" The masked boy grinned. Aerith recognized that smug smile instantly.
"Sequoia? I...uh..." Aerith collected themself, trying not to blow their cover. They grinned weakly. "Wowie! It's a superhero"
"Yeah I know I'm cool." Sequoia grinned. Aerith rolled their eyes and laughed weakly. Sequoia sat on the swing next to Aerith. He created a daisy and gave it to them. "What's life like as a civilian? Powerless and small?"
"Yeah. Sure." Aerith shrugged. "I'd assume so-seeing as I don't know any better...you know, being a civilian."
"You're funny babe." He said a with a slight pink tinge to his cheeks, mostly hidden by his mask. He pulled it further up his nose. "I-I didn't say that okay?"
"Yeah okay." Aerith has a matching blush on their cheeks. "I've gotta go. I think my parents are wondering where I am."
"Parents? What parents?" He asked. Noticing the scared look on Aerith's face, he stammered a cover. "Of course you have parents. You're a civilian. I'm just used to other heroes. I-I'm sorry. I'll leave." He went back to the tree. It bent a bough to pick him up. Aerith ran home. Does Sequoia know I'm a hero? How else would he know the little snippet about parents? It's like he was mocking me. And why did I like it? He was teasing me! Aerith closed the door and they ran upstairs and crawled into bed. Their thoughts reeling through their head like a movie, Aerith fell asleep with a puzzled grin on their lips.
