#8 Sliver of doubt
What I was listening to ^
There was a time when waking up in a position like this was normal for Izuku... though, from the talk he had with his mother, it seemed as if the timing was all too perfect, waking up with his arms wrapped around Katsuki's arm, his face pressed against his bicep, his horn jutting out away from the teen almost on instinct when he fell asleep. Looking up he saw Katsuki asleep, the white noise of the tv in the background.
"Kacchan..." Slowly he sat up as he stared at the ash-blond teen, silently snoozing slowly inching forward he looked at all his features, turning towards his alarm clock he had seen that it was now nine o clock at night, stifling slightly as he placed his hand next to his and staring at it, "He always stays with me... I- I can tell him r-right?" Placing his hand on top of his, Katsuki's head turned to the side for a brief moment. He seemed so at peace... usually, he had an angry scowl on his face, "For good reason!" He could practically hear Katsuki's voice even though the teen next to him was fast asleep.
"I can be angry whenever I want! Especially if people try to start shit!" Katsuki had once said to him and he couldn't help the sad smile that adorns his face. Staring at the teen for what felt like an eternity, he felt something drip onto his hand. Looking down in surprise he didn't realize he had started crying. He didn't know when he started, and he defiantly didn't know when it would stop. Laying his head down as the tears kept flowing, he gingerly wrapped his arms around the arm he had left just a moment before and stayed still... "Please don't go... Please don't go..." His mind wandering back to a day years ago...
"Honey please don't leave... Izuku needs you." Izuku's eyes opened from the yelling and pleading. His feet met the ground gently, his eyes meeting the mirror of his room before tiptoeing from his room to the door. "Izuku doesn't need me, he needs one of us, and I am sure you will suffice." The tone he had heard his father use against his mother was foreign to the young boy's ears. Frowning as he opened the door. Rubbing his eyes as a bright light from the hallway filled his head. "Daddy?"
His mother had stifled at the sound while his father turned around, his eyes flashing with disgust at the young boy before his face morphed into a forced smile. "Hello, Izuku." The frown on the young boy's face made it apparent that he had heard a few things. Though Izuku looked up with sad tears, his face morphing into a grim smile. "Kacchan's friends do that too dad... you don't have to..." Hisashi's face morphed into surprise as Izuku looked down at his feet, a blanket in his hands as he stared at the all might blanket. "They act like my friend when I'm around... but say stuff when they think I'm not listening..." Looking up his tears fell. "Please don't go... Please don't go... Please don't go..."
Izuku felt himself shaking before his voice cried out as his eyes snapped open, his eyes bloodshot, gasping for breath he clutched onto what snapped him out of the never-ending nightmare. "Izu... hey! Hey, it's okay!" when he finally realized what he had been clutching onto he locked eyes with a very worried teen... "K-Katsuki..." The way the boy wept broke something inside of him and everything boiled over all at once. Placing his hands securely around the horned boy.
"Shh, it's okay... It's okay, I'm here..." Although it was helping Izuku with his nightmare, the way he worded it did not help his situation and made him even more emotional. "I won't go, I promise." The whisper was barely there he didn't think he heard right. He looked up and only saw one emotion... pure worry, concerned eyes... although he was just woken up he looked so alert it honestly made him wonder how quickly he could be up for a situation... "I'm s-sorry... Kacchan." after a moment he whispered out making him tilt his head, his eyes narrowing in confusion. "Do you want to talk about it?"
Izuku tensed in his arms, the feeling snaked its way up Katsuki's arms in an instant. "If I do you'll just leave me like him..." The blond frowned at the tone Izuku gave him, the sadness was usually never there... "I promised you we would be a hero duo, and I promised you just now. 'I will never leave.'" Izuku believed him... he really did... but he was so scared he started shaking again. "Mom and dad told me something yesterday... something that hasn't left my mind since." Izuku looked up with sad confused eyes... obviously not sure where this was going. "If I tell you... will you promise you won't leave either?"
Izuku tilted his head and nodded his head, obviously curious... confused but still curious. Katsuki looked down and sighed, his nerves all over the place. "They asked me... a question about you...which got me to ask a question about you as well... or well, about me..." The normally bold teen had become a muttering mess, trying to figure out how to word what was to come and say. "They started to tell me how we were always so close and how our promise... bound us together with how you survived.... we survived a traumatic experience would bring us closer... and that's normal!"
Izuku suddenly started to giggle as Katsuki looked down in slight shock from the sound, the suddenness got him. "I-I'm sorry Kacchan... it's just usually I'm the one who is hard for words." Katsuki blushed clearly embarrassed before he suddenly said... "They said that I might like you!" Izuku blinked... as did the teen just inches apart. "Oh." The silence echoed between them for a brief moment before Izuku looked up, an unreadable expression on his face from the blond. "D-do you?" Katsuki opened his mouth slightly before closing it, his eyes wandering up to the side as if he was trying to see his brain working.
"I... I do as a friend but I don't know if it's more... it's why I wanted to talk to you today... just to see if anything would... jump out?" He questioned himself at the thought but looked down at him with questionable eyes and smiled to himself, "I think the cheesiest shit I could say right now is... you're probably the only person I'd date." Izuku felt his heart swell at that. "I... can you tell me when you know?" the viridian teen whispered, the green eyes staring up at him with a type of way he had never seen before... or he had but the meaning to it deepened considerably.
"Y-Yeah of course..." To the blond, it seemed that the teen was taking this very well... though his mind wandered back to why they were having this conversation, he gave a small turn towards the clock to see that it had just turned ten o clock. "Can you tell me now?" Katsuki whispered more gently than he had been speaking before... "I... it was when dad left... it was repeating over and over again..." Katsuki frowned slightly... he hadn't seen his dad since they were four... just after Katsuki had gotten his quirk.
"H-He left so easily... because my quirk was so late... b-but I think he never really wanted me..." Katsuki's arms tense around the teen as he started shaking again. "I didn't w-want t-to tell you... h-he left so quickly... pl-please don't leave..." Katsuki leaned down and stared at him in the eyes. No words needing to be said Izuku whispered. "I really l-l-like y-you Ka-Kacchan." The air around them fell silent as Izuku stayed quivering in his arms, waiting for him to pull away and leave... or laugh it off as if it's a joke...
Even though he had told him, there was that small evil sliver of doubt that snaked its hold onto Izuku's heart, whimpering at the silence, Katsuki lightly petted the curls out of his face and gave a sly smile. "Well it makes sense, you did hang off me like a bat." That tendril of doubt evaporated as Katsuki stayed... his arms seemed to be even locked tighter around him... though the thing that made him relax fully in his arms was his eyes...
His eyes held so much disgust.
His eyes not reclused in the darkness as his fathers were... closing his eyes he smiled up at the blond. "Is that a bad thing?" The familiar question from earlier today echoed in his head making Katsuki leaned forward and gave a small kiss next to the viridian's horn jutting out his forehead. "No, no it isn't Izu..." Izuku felt like jello, seemingly melting at the warm pressure against his forehead, silently Katsuki unlocked his hands making Izuku look up pleadingly. "Can I go to the bathroom?" He asked amusingly pointing at the bathroom adjacent to his room. Looking up at the blond he slowly nodded his head.
Katsuki walked fairly quickly to the bathroom making Izuku smile slightly, feeling a little bad that he had been laying on him the entire time... he probably was not feeling comfortable if he had to go... Izuku laid his head down where Katsuki was just at and closed his eyes, the weight of the world didn't seem so heavy anymore for Izuku... When he had heard the door to his bathroom open he opened his eyes and propped himself up with his hands. Katsuki walked over by the bed and gave him an amused look. "If you want me to lay on you I can." Izuku scrambled from the side of the bed where he was with a flush crossing his face.
Sitting down Katsuki opened his arms, "Though I think you'd rather the other way." The teasing nature of his voice made the other look down and slowly accepted the invitation. Closing his eyes as his head rested itself against him. "I'm... not dreaming right..." Katsuki had heard the small whisper and he shook his head, a small chuckle emanating from his chest. "Nope, now go to sleep... it's late." Izuku looked up slightly with a small frown. "So... you'll tell me when?" The blond nodded his head. "Yes."
The viridian eyes closed slowly. "Good night Katsuki..." the name fluttered out once again making the blond look down with a small smile... "Good night Izuku..."
