#6 It's Inevitable.
Many years had passed after the accident involving the two boys, now teens... they had been going to school with some finding out about the accident and confronting Izuku, giving him praise, of course, that didn't sit well with Katsuki. He had guessed because now that he had a quirk was the reason why he was giving him any time was because of his quirk... he had gotten so angry before being so sad in such an instant, though he was easily able to conceal it to almost everyone... except for Izuku.
Izuku noticed the small turmoil he was facing and asked him, it took him a week until he really looked like he was going to explode... "What's wrong Kacchan?" Katsuki turned around, his eyes in a glare, "Why do you let them talk to you?!" He crossed his arms, obviously annoyed while Izuku tilted his head, confusion obviously evident on his face. "W-Why wouldn't I?" He asked sadly making Katsuki pause slightly seeing him lower his head. "T-they didn't... they never talked to you until you got a quirk Izu! They don't need to talk to you!" Izuku looked up seeing Katsuki look away with a small annoyed blush on his face.
"K-Kacchan are you jealous?" Katsuki turned his head even more, trying to face away from him. "L-Like I know what that word means!" Izuku smiled brightly as he heard the words. Walking forward he waved his hand in front of him making Katsuki look toward him with an annoyed look, the look obviously not meant for him... "You're right Kacchan, I'll talk with you more, promise!" Katsuki's usual smug look came back and he lifted his head high, his nose pointed to the sky, "Damn straight!" The green-haired boy looked at him with horror. "Kacchan!" The scolding commenced.
Of course, that was one of many trials. Izuku's horn kept growing from that day as well, although fairly quickly at first it started to slow down, but as the horn grew just like the doctor predicted, his quirk was much stronger, and albeit if he went overboard, he didn't get headaches as much. Lifting Katsuki with happy laughter and with no repercussions. The teen had been grinning as he was lifted by the invisible force before lightly sat back down next to the boy. Of course, when he tried bigger things it got harder, and his strain was bad, not as bad as when it was when he awoke his quirk the first time but bad enough to where he had to stop and compose himself.
Katsuki had made sure to keep himself busy with practicing their quirks, his quirk had been getting better and better as well, able to blow up rocks with ease now and he even got the hang of propelling himself forward, if he was able to produce enough force may be able to fly for extended periods of time. Izuku had a hand at helping him with that, writing down many different calculations when they got to their teen years, his normal explosions weren't powerful enough to permanently keep him afloat. Of course, Izuku told him to amp it up little by little.
"I know! I'll fight and you'll make me fly!" Izuku cocked his head sideways in confusion, "But what if I'm not there?" Katsuki looked over with a face, "Hah!? What do you mean ya nerd, you'll always be by my side." The color magnified in Izuku's face tenfold, opting for a deep crimson instead of his normal skin color. "We're the wonder duo remember!" Katsuki stepped forward as Izuku placed his hand on his face, trying to calm the heat directed on his face. "Yeah, always..."
He had whispered it so softly the blond barely heard it but of course, that was years ago... Izuku had remembered most of the words said by the blond, although most of them were crude he couldn't think of anyone else he would want to be a hero duo with... he felt his chest contort, he felt hurt thinking about the future with Katsuki and he didn't know why... perhaps he was worried if they both got hurt...the thought was gone from his mind as he looked up from his place on his bed, his desk was floating just by the thoughts... lightly setting it down with his quirk he looked over towards the mirror.
His horn had grown to the length of his hand if he placed it next to it and measured it... his eyes had gotten used to the shine from it coming from his head had gotten a lighter color. placing his hand on his bed he stood up and grabbed his phone, looking at the time he hummed, seemingly waiting for a knock to ring on his door, he threw off his pajamas and placed it in a basket, putting on his school jeans and as he was grabbing his shirt... the door gave three quick knocks making him jump as the door opened up. "Come on nerd time for sc-" The blond's words halted in his throat seeing Izuku shirtless.
"S-Sorry... I-I'll b-be down in a s-second..." Izuku whispered, his face flushed in embarrassment. Katsuki nodded his head dumbly before closing the door. slowly walking back to the front of their apartment he saw Inko sweeping the kitchen. "Oh? Where's Izuku?" Inko asked as she lightly pushed dust in the dustpan. "A-Ah he's getting changed," Katsuki muttered, tilting her head slightly in confusion she saw a small pink dusting the blond's face. Inko didn't know what to think but when Izuku came in just a minute later, she had seen an intense blush radiating from her son.
She wondered about the exchange for a few minutes, seeing Katsuki look away with a more reddening face, "Suppose the boys are growing up." Grabbing her phone she placed it to her ear, it rang a couple of times before it was picked up. "Inko-chan? What's up?" The voice of Mitsuki on the other line made Inko smile slightly, "You might need to give your son the talk." Mitsuki choked out a laugh. "Oh? Why's that?" Mitsuki sounded amused on the other side of the phone. "Cause Izuku and Katsuki can't look at each other without turning red."
Inko didn't hear any more laughter before Mitsuki hummed slightly. "Masaru! You owe me twenty bucks!" Inko sweatdropped at her friend's blunt shout. "Sorry Inko-chan, we had a bet to wonder if he would be gay or not." She almost fell over when she heard that. "Besides it was inevitable! They are like soulmates." Mitsuki stated as if it was obvious knowledge. "Yeah, I'll talk to him about it tonight..." Inko took a few minutes to talk to her friend before hanging up the phone, looking at a picture on the counter of the kitchen she smiled, "It really was inevitable."
The photo she was looking at being Izuku and Katsuki hand in hand marching forward through the park when they were four years old, a bright smile on Izuku's face and a grin on Katsuki's.
...
It was awkward the entire day for the two teens, hardly able to keep a conversation with one another, they opted to just sit next to each other without having to look at the other, if they did they would have a shade of pink dust their cheeks. As the day ended for them, Katsuki's phone vibrated in his pocket, groaning slightly he grabbed it and asked, "What?" Izuku turned slightly hearing his annoyed edge. "Brat come home soon, me and your father need to talk to you about something important." Katsuki scowled and rolled his eyes, his eyes landing on Izuku.
"No Izuku, just us three." His mother added making him sigh, "Alright hag, I'll be there." Hanging up the phone before he would have the normal rant of his mother he turned. "Hag needs me for something, think you'll survive?" Izuku smiled slightly at that and nodded his head. "Yeah of course Kacchan." Katsuki gave a small quirk upward with his lips as he turned. "See ya tomorrow then ya nerd!" Izuku's smile brightened as he turned around. "You too!" Of course, they didn't realize how much awkward it would be when they reached their homes.
"What did ya want hag?" Katsuki shouted as he shut the door to his home, looking forward he saw his mother looking at him with a curious stare. "I just wanted to talk with ya," Mitsuki stated with a shrug, the teen gained a tick mark at the thought. "Well I was going to hang out with Izuku today, but seemed like our plans changed." He said with an annoyed look, although technically a lie, they didn't play anything as Katsuki was too busy trying to rid the image from that morning out of his head.
"Ah yes, that's who I wanted to talk about!" Mitsuki seemingly dismissed everything he said besides Izuku making Katsuki slump on the couch with an annoyed grunt. "You and Izuku have been close since you were just babies, so of course there are things that might change between you two." Katsuki raised an eyebrow, "Like what? We hate each other?" He said with a scowl, that was the farthest thing from his mind and he'd be damned if Izuku tried to pull any of that crap on him now.
"Just the opposite. Katsuki." He frowned as she said this before looking over, all his life he had seen the look on his mother's face a few times... and when he did he knew it was serious. "What do you mean..." He muttered making her smile slightly as Masaru came around the corner, "What she means Katsuki is... having a friend at such a young age especially with what you both went through would make you inseparable." Katsuki put his nose up. "So, that's cause we are! Izuku's the only one I tolerate of the sea of extras." He turned his head in disgust just thinking about all the suck-ups.
"Why is he 'tolerable' Katsuki?" Mitsuki asked making him turn his head with a confused look, "You should know already." He said stubbornly making her smile warmly at the thought, "Yes of course, but I want to hear it from you." The teen rolled his eyes at the thought. "Izu... He's always so bright, he never treated me differently even after I got my quirk, or even after he saved me... he just always was a hero... Izuku is like... everything I'm not... He's nice, sweet, weird, a little nerdy... no he is a nerd." He smiled as he said this making Masaru and Mitsuki look at each other briefly. "He's the reason why I want to be a hero..."
Mitsuki grinned and placed her hand on his head. "Well, your version of tolerable is our version of love." Katsuki froze as his mother said this, the image that was in his head and the way his heartbeat fluttered when he thought of it made him feel sick to his stomach, like some weird bug festered its way down there... was that really the feeling? Katsuki looked up and she grinned. "You always want to be together, hero duo or otherwise... Izuku-Kun told me that years ago and I thought it was the cutest thing, but I think that promise was deeper than what you both think."
Katsuki looked at his hands as he clenched them. His mother's words on repeat as he looked up to his dad then to his mom who was smiling at him. "Of course you might not love him right now... but you defiantly feel strongly about him." Katsuki nodded his head slightly, dumbfounded that his words did not come out. "Think about your feelings Katsuki... figure them out and deal with them how you want... as your dad I am here to support you," Masaru said as he placed his hand on top of his head, the normally soft-spoken parent now giving him a confidence boost. "Thanks, dad... Mom..." Katsuki whispered making them smile slightly. "Haven't heard that in a while, am I going senile already!?" Mitsuki shouted as Masaru chuckled sheepishly.
As they got up to leave Katsuki on the couch, he stood up quickly. "What if... he doesn't feel the same way?" They turned around to see their son looking down, Mitsuki gave him one last reassuring grin. "You'd be surprised Katsuki. Why wouldn't he?" Katsuki felt his shoulder relax at the reassuring words... "Do I really... like Izu?"
...
"Izuku! Honey come sit down, I have a question for you." Inko patted the seat next to her as Izuku slowly closed the hallway door, just coming out of it, the request was out of the blue which made Izuku wonder. "Yeah, mom?" Inko smiled slightly as she looked up at the ceiling. "What do you feel when you're around Katsuki-Kun?" Izuku hummed slightly, it was a good question he had never thought about it and he didn't think too much of why his mother wanted to know. "Happy and..." he paused as he thought about this morning. "I was nervous today..." Inko hummed slightly, "Why does he make you happy and nervous?" The viridian teen thought back, thinking of each promise and each moment.
"He believed in me... he never treated me like everyone else... he always had something to say that made me happy... but today he made me nervous cause he walked in on me changing and I was so nervous that he saw me..." he felt his face flare up as he told his mom this as she giggled. "Ahh my little boy being embarrassed..." He felt his horn light up as he floated in the room. "Well... I guess I only have one question left..." Izuku moved his hands down so he could see his mother sitting beneath him on the couch as he floated above her. "Do you like Katsuki-Kun?" Izuku tilted his head obviously confused. "Of course I do he's my best friend."
Inko shook her head obviously amused, "I mean do you like him Izuku... You've both been through so much and you were practically with him every day... I mean is your dream to being a hero duo enough for you Izuku..." Izuku's focus on himself to float away was gone as he fell onto the couch next to his mom. "W-Wh-what?!" Inko smiled slightly as she saw her son's face get redder and redder. "You really are my son alright, you even act like me over a boy." She couldn't help but cover her mouth with a giggle.
"Take your time Izuku... think about why you want to be heroes together, and if that will be enough..." She knew about their promise as Izuku had told her on the same day as Mitsuki, talking to it with her best friend they couldn't help but be glad that they had each other... of course one way or another... Izuku looked out the window as Inko got up and started towards the kitchen, ready to prepare some food.
"I..." He thought back to when he felt his chest ache badly when he thought of Katsuki and him as Hero duos, knowing there was something missing, like a puzzle that didn't quite fit... and now his mom just gave him a new piece of that puzzle...and it fit. "I really do like him..."
