Chapter 23- Decisions; Keep or Kill

/A black cat was sitting on top of the decorative light./

Sting noticed this rather quickly as I, and stood up, taking my hand. "We have to get out of here." He growled. I was still trying to figure things out, but he didn't give me the chance.
"S-Sting why-"

"Just shut up and come on." He looked back at me, his blue-eyed gaze piercing. I swallowed, nodding in fright. Many were starting to rush towards an exit, so I ran with Sting, trying not trip in my dress.

He squeezed my hand, and I couldn't figure out why. When we stopped running, just outside of the palace, I panted. "Why? Why.. are you so frightened?" I asked, pausing several times to catch my breath.

"This is my fault. That damn cat has been following me all day, ever since I left the train to Crocus." Sting sighed. "They could easily blame it as a accident, since no one here used magic, but..."

"Natsu!" My ears perked, eavesdropping on the conversation. "Where are you? Natsu!"

I turned. "Don't blame it on yourself. I'll be right back."

"Nats-!" I came to Alice, grabbing her wrists. "What's wrong?" I asked, trying to calm her down.
"Natsu went missing... he isn't outside!"
Her eyes were widened in fear.

"That idot." I muttered, breaking away from Alice. "I'm going to go and find him."

"No I will! I use fire, so the fire shouldn't affect me." Alice said, and before a reply was issued, she raced into the palace.

Making my way back to Sting, I saw that no one was hurt.

"That's good. I'm only hoping that this was not a set up." I mumbled, hugging him close, a dark red pigment creeping onto my face. "I'm scared Sting."

I felt him flinch a small but when I hugged him, but it made no difference to me. He rubbed my back, and said in a comforting voice, "Don't be scared, it'll be okay."

"Let go of me!'' A male voice called out, seemingly in fright and frustration. "I didn't even do anything!" I pulled away from Sting and looked towards the noise. Two guards had a male child in their grasp. Looking closer, I recognized his face.

"Stop struggling. We know you set those fires!" One of the guards yanked his arm.
Clenching my teeth, I put on a smile and walked over to them.

"Hiro! I was looking for you!" I smiled, sounding bright and optimistic.
"Who are you?" One of the guards growled. Looking up at one of them, I replied. "My name is Shina, and this is my brother Hiro."

The guard looked skeptical, but grunted and shoved the confused boy forward. Hiro clung to my dress as the guards walked away, tearing up. Kneeling down, I smiled at him. "Remember me from this morning? My name is Saki, and I am a member of the guild in Magnolia. But..."

I looked Hiro up and down. He was really dirty, like he had been running. "What's wrong?" He really started to sniffle now.

"S-something h-happened to m...mom!"

Frowning, I wiped his tears with my thumb. "What? Can you tell me?"

"Some... someone came, and t-they took her! I came by the train, to get someone to help. P...Please you have to help me and her! Please Saki!" He wailed.

Patting his head, I soothed him. "Shh, it'll be alright. I'll help you. Follow me." He clung to my dress as I walked, and I went back to Sting. "Look, if anyone is looking for me, tell them I went back to Magnolia."

"But why? Saki, I can't let you- " He started, but I silenced him. "You can't come with me, you need to stay with your guild. I'll be okay, I promise."

He looked awfully skeptical, but let me go nontheless. He seemed numb, making me feel horrible for every step I took away from him.

I slid down the hill, and onto the asphalt. "We have to get to the train before it leaves!" Hiro sighed, and Saki laughed. "You forget who you are talking to."

"Give thy grace of Angel wings!' Saki jumped into the air, grabbing Hiro. He sort of freaked out, being a ton of feet off of the ground.

"Stop struggling." Saki grunted. "Your heavy." Soon the child was still, and she flew gracefully across the vast land.

After she had reached Magnolia, Saki didn't disperse of her wings, she may need them in the future.

Saki touched ground, setting Hiro down as well. She grabbed his hand. "To the shop first." He only nods, looking up at her, and pulling her hand. Folding her wings, she ran with Hiro.

Soon, they were at the dress shop. Hiro ran inside, and up the stairs. Saki quickly followed, only to find a note that was written in sloppy handwriting.

Come get her, if you want. If you're BRAVE enough. Her favorite place... scared savior.

She growled. "Where did your mother like to go?"
Hiro thought as he was led down the stairs. "The empty window store. She loved going there, because she remembered what was there before."

"Let's go. Take me there." Saki smiled, trying to shed some light on the situation. Hiro led her out of the house, and onto the streets. It wasn't too far, easily spottable by the trail of blood leading to it. Taking a semi-deep breath, she stepped inside.

"Hiro, get on my back." The boy did as told, and Saki covered him with her wings.

"Show yourselves!" Saki demanded. She heard ruffles in the darkness, but nothing. The room was pitch black. She brought magic to her hands, a silvery light, to light it up. She spotted people hiding in the shadows.

"I said, show yourselves!" She waved her hand, so that light filled every corner of darkness, showing three people, and the trail of blood leading farther.

"Who are you?" One of the people asked. A girl. Younger, yet scared.
"My name need not be known. Only what happened to that woman!"

Another girl shook her head. "Now, you don't need to know that."

"Tell me that again, and I-"

"You'll what?" The girl smirked.

Saki didn't answer. She couldn't do anything to harm then, besides magic. Even then...
"Tell me, why did it have to be her?"

The girl, who had seemed so frightened before, replied confidently. "She was useless in out plans, so we eliminated her. Or tried. The old woman put up quite a fight. She had strong magic." Saki clenched her fists.

"She ran a dress shop in Magnolia... this city... WHAT HARM DID SHE EVER DO YOU!" She yelled. She felt her jacket being grabbed, it was Hiro, she assumed, balling his fists in frustration.
"Like I said, useless for our plans." The girl stepped in front of Saki.

"You... you son of a- !" Saki punched the girl in the shoulder. The girl only took the attack, showing no signs of harm.

Hiro jumped off of her back, planting his feet firmly on the floor and balled his fists.
"Mom... mommy didn't do anything to you people! But you hurt her!"

The girl marched over to the boy, pulling a knife out of her shoulder bag. "Go to hell boy."

Saki's eyes widened, and without a second thought she charged forward, tackling the girl. However, the knife smoothly slid into her shoulder, making her cry in pain. Saki was lifted, put into a arm lock, and stood up. The knife was yanked out of her shoulder by a man, who stood in front of her.

"You are worried about the woman correct? I'll let you see her. What happens after that... let's keep that secret." Saki nodded, taking everything into consideration. She walked forward, past the doorframe, the floors creaking with age. Hiro's mother lay on the wooden panels that covered the concrete, unmoving. The unearthly smell of blood hit Saki's nose, making her cringe.

She leaned down, the gaze from the woman peering into her mind. "Poor soul." She murmured, drawing a hand over her eyes, closing them. The blood was fresh, meaning she wasn't killed that long ago. Saki quickly moved away, in the event that something was going to happen. She walked back into the other room, puzzled.

"What organization are you?" Saki asked. She was twiddling her thumbs.

"Nothing of your concern. But you are going to make a choice. You will leave, and leave the boy, or we will let the boy go and you will stay here. Either way, only one of you gets out... alive." The man from before rumbled, getting twitchy.

Saki gritted her teeth. She didn't want to subject Hiro to anything. But... she couldn't die either. The least she could do was put up a fight.
