Chapter 6
Cassie stepped back, "Excuse me, what?" She asked confused, looking at Mark for help.
"What?! N-no wait, that's impossib-"
The Scientist was looking around before spotting the laser gun and grabbing hold of it in her empty hand. "Oh, yes it is! It's possible!"
Cassie cried out and backed away, trying to keep some distance between her and the gun.
"WOAH WOAH WOAH!" Mark held out his arms. "Whatever you're thinking about doing I need you to carefully reconsider it, okay?" He began to panic.
"Oh, I've thought about this plenty already." she replied as she tried to approach Cassie.
Cassie continued to back away, eyes wide with fear, shaking a little bit.
"If we destroy the source of the disturbance, all the timelines will be set back into their original state! No more zombie apocalypse, no more time skips, no more overlaps. We're gonna be saving the world!"
Cassie made her way over to Mark who was on the other side of the counter from the scientist now, absolutely terrified.
Mark quickly made his way between the two, protectively standing in front of Cassie. "Y-you don't know that!"
"Yes, I do!"
Cassie looked at him, a bit surprised by him trying to protect her but was grateful for it.
"Well... how can you?!" He yelled back. "How can you know that this will save us?!"
"Look, I'm sorry but I have to do this!" She replied.
Cassie stayed behind Mark, tears brimming her eyes as she tried to keep from going into a full on panic attack.
"And besides, if it works, your friend here will just, like, reset to the original timeline." she tried to reassure them.
"Or you'll just kill her!"
"She'll be fine." she dismissed him, trying to get him to move so she could aim correctly.
"NO! There's gotta be a better way!" His voice cracked and began to become strained.
"I've done the calculations. The math checks out. It's time to go anomaly."
Cassie looked between them, scared and confused.
"I don't care what the calculations say!" He looked back at Cassie. "Please don't let her do this, I can't lose you..."
Cassidy stared at Mark in surprise by this statement, tears streaming down her face from the stress and fear. "W-What...?" She asked him, confused by this statement which made her emotions even more mixed up.
Mark didn't elaborate on this and turned back to the scientist.
The scientist looked between them before reading her gun. "Goodbye, anomaly." She stated.
Cassidy looked between them, emotions very distraught at this point before realizing something. If she wasn't killed now, chances were she'd turn into a zombie and kill them both... She hesitated before stepping forward. "Stop!" She told them both firmly, still shaking a little as they turned to her.
"What...?" Mark's eyes widened.
She took a deep breath before holding out her arm and pulling back her sleeve, revealing the bite mark, closing her eyes so she didn't have to see their reactions.
He covered his mouth and stared at her aghast. "No..."
"Oh, I'm so sorry." The scientist told them, lowering the gun.
Cassie slowly looked up at them, eyes more sad than scared at this point.
"Oh you're sorry now are you? You were just trying to kill her a second ago!" He looked at the scientists, disgust on his face.
"Hey, I'm not doing this because I enjoy this. I'm trying to save humanity here!" She replied to Mark.
Cassidy looked between them, frowning a little.
"Oh well great job you big 'hero'." He hissed.
"I'm not trying to be a big hero." She turned to Cassidy who took a small step back, feeling her chest tighten, bracing herself as the scientist raised her gun. "I'm just doing what needs to be done." She stated as she charged the gun up before she pulled the trigger, firing the blast.
