UNDERWORLD. Pt: 2.

Chapter: 2.

Another folder appeared on his table and he flipped it open and began to read. When the cold air touched his skin he looked up to find a woman sitting in front of him. She held her head low, it seemed as though she was fascinated by the decor underneath her feet. Having not spotted much in her folder he asked.

"Name and Age, please?" noticing how gentle he was with this woman. Something doesn't sit right with him. He could feel it in his demon blood.

"Angela, 49 years old." She said softly, avoiding eye contact.

Zane returned. "Tell me, Angela, what was the last thing you remembered before you came here?"

The woman still not looking at him muttered softly. "I remember nothing."

Zane has felt uneasy since that first feeling of cold air touched his skin. He wanted to read her more, see into her life and know what's making him feel this way so he pushed further. "Please, look into my eyes!" Spellbound, the woman slowly raised her head and met his burning gaze but her eyes were empty. Like she couldn't even see at all. Zane caught himself from gasping out loud at how beautiful she is: White milky skin, clear green big eyes hugged by long lashes, full lips with washed-up pink, a small mole sitting under her right eyes, and long wavy black hair.

She looked like his father's half-angel bride.

But, she's human.

Gathering his thoughts, Zane spoke softly to her once again. "That's alright, you don't have to say a word. I know everything already." At which the woman reacted with a slight movement of her head leaning to the left and her hair shifted slightly over her face. Zane saw just how terrified she looked. "This isn't your place, Angela, you're not meant to be here, there's been a mistake and I'm going to find out what happened in a moment." The words had barely left his mouth before he rose, giant wings stretched and he saw the woman recline into her chair in fright at those spike-filled wings, with edges as sharp as many swords aligned in one place. A head would go flying all the way across the room by a swing of one wing. He approached her slowly and she backed into her chair. "It's okay, don't be afraid." He whispered and gently placed his left hand on her right shoulder, trying to bring some comfort to the woman. At his touch, she gasped when she was able to see her son, Dominic, smiling up at her and calling to her. Zane could see the similarities between the mother and her son. Once he pulled his hand away, she exhaled and relaxed, then he excused himself and disappeared from the room.

This was one of the many reasons the higher ranks consider him pathetic. A demon who would go out of his way to prove the innocence of a mere mortal. Whether it be by engaging in a fight with Higher ranked 111 to bring justice to the innocent or disobeying his father, the ruler of the underworld, Zane would do these things just for the human sake.

Zane used the void to reach the Registrar and investigate the reasons why this woman who was murdered unjustly was sitting in his office. Esteban, or The Fox as he likes to be called groaned upon seeing the demon. He does not appreciate being interrupted without an appointment and as soon as he felt the Demon's presence he knew what it was about.

With a wave of his hand, the Fox dismissed his current appointment and with a strong loud voice, he demanded an explanation from the demon.

"What is it now, Zane? You're disobeying the rules again."

To which Zane replied. "Why is this human here?" Pointing at the file in his hand. "This is an evidence of foul-play yet being ruled as a suicide. What is this?" His voice rose with each word. "She was murdered, we know that for sure! It's our duty not to ignore the facts!" At this point, Zane was boiling with anger, and seeing that Esteban looked so relaxed and uninterested in his concern, made the vein on his neck more pronounced and the blades at the tip of his wings unsheathing. And to all who knew the Demon, this was a sign to stay out of his way or they wouldn't have their mouths to speak for eternity.

Esteban took the file from his hand and on the main page, he stamped with the red ink the word RETURN. "There, it's done. Is there anything else I can do for you?" The Fox asked, hoping he would say no and get out of his hair sooner, his fur is starting to itch with his presence.

Zane would always be the only Demon coming to him to make sure no innocent human gets trapped down there and that justice is done. With the file in hand, Zane answered. "That would be all for now, until next time." and went back to his office.

"There better be no next time." The Fox muttered at the departing back of the demon.

Back in his office, Angela was still sitting in the same position he had left her, still lost in thought, lowered head and staring at the floor, didn't even acknowledge his dark presence. Zane approached her and kneeled beside her, taking her hands in his, he whispered. "Angela, you'll crossover into the light, there you will get to meet your elderly. I'm sorry you had to go through this. Is there anything I can do for you?" Zane with his vision had seen her past, he was aware of the real circumstances around her death. He will follow up on that and make sure all is done according to the Law.

Angela only muttered a name. "Darius." and Zane understood. The only thing left to do was to escort her from the underworld. He summoned the Escort and once the two-headed demon appeared, he pointed to Angela and told the woman to follow him. "He will lead you into the light. Be happy, Angela." he waved them off and they vanished into the void.

Zane sat slumped into his office chair, his wings re-curled into their rightful place, he was exhausted.

While the demon packed up to leave, a paper got served to him. He opened and it was a request to appear before the council.

And the letter was sent by none other than his arch-enemy. Known for his cruelty, and as the highest-ranked: Number 111 while he was 112, his cousin, Eden D'Mon.

This wasn't going to end well for him.
