When the past catches up with the present
Moyo squirmed in her seat as the depraved criminal walking around her sneering mockingly as he observed her. She was tied to a chair with duct tape on her lips so no one could hear her screams. You'd think that as a police officer on the streets of Lagos she'd have known better than to accept a drink from a stranger. She glared at him not at all rattled by his depraved behavior. She'd seen much worse.
The warehouse was as big as it was cold. It had also been abandoned for quite some time. She knew it was going to take a while for her partner, detective Tobi to find her but not too long she hoped. She'd be gone for about two days, that should be enough time for the police force to figure everything out.
Suddenly, a voice came from the door. It was a loud shout, an angry one and one that Moyo recognized the door.
"It's the Police!" Tobi yelled "You better open this god damn door or I'm kicking it down!"
Moyo's captor laughed maniacally as he continued to walk in circles around her chair. It wasn't the kind of laugh you heard from tv villains, no. This laugh was much more cynical. Mocking in one way and sinister in another. The laugh of a real psychopath.
"I won't be opening any doors for you Tobi" He said darkly "You might as well let yourself in"
Moyo's eyed widened as she observed her captor. She wasn't just shocked now, she was also a little scared. The fact that the psycho who had roofied her knew Tobi was a bad sign. It meant that there was a personal reason for all this. She could be in real danger.
The next thing she heard was a loud thud and the door flew off it's hinges and onto the floor. Tobi stood at the entrance breathing heavily but with a gun aimed at the psycho's head. The psycho had quick reflexes though and had one pointed at him within a second. The two men eyed each other angrily.
"I was wondering when you'd get here" Moyo's captor said plainly "Do you want to talk a bit or get down to business?"
"Let her go Rodrick" Tobi said as calmly as he could "She had nothing to do with this. I'm the one you have beef with..."
"Damn right you are!" He yelled angrily making Moyo's heart skip a beat "You killed my brother you bloody bastard"
Tobi took a few steps towards but froze when Rodrick turned the gun in Moyo's direction. He placed it close to her temple and twisted it so that Moyo could feel the cold butt of the gun on her temple. She shuddered.
"Stop!" Tobi shouted putting a hand out "Stop or I swear I'll shoot you"
"I don't give a damn!" Rodrick snarled as he leered at Moyo "Killing her will probably be like killing you anyway. That's all I want"
"I didn't kill your brother" Tobi said staring right at Rodrick "He overdosed at a party. I didn't force the drugs down his throat"
"But you sure as hell made him do it" Rodrick said. His hands began to shake, his anger as clear as day "Told him he'd be a social pariah if he didn't"
"But I didn't kill him" Tobi argued earnestly. Moyo was looking at him and she could tell that he hadn't meant for it to happen.
"Bullshit!" Rodrick yelled before aiming the gun at Tobi.
Tobi took a few calming breaths before speaking again "I'll turn myself in, even say that I forced the drugs down Sam's throat. Just let her go"
"Lies!" Rodrick snarled "Sam might have been that gullible but not me"
Tobi glanced at Moyo to see the state she was in. For a split second, they made eye contact. Tobi wanted to know if she was ok. Moyo was concerned but alright.
Rodrick turned to Tobi and smiled eerily "What if I told you I didn't care what happened to me? What if I told you that all I want is revenge not some dumbass confession?"
"No" Tobi said warily "You don't want that Rodrick. The guilt is something you'll carry with you for the rest of your life"
"And like I said" Rodrick said calmly "I don't care, Sam would've done the same for me"
Gunshots went off. It was hard to tell in what direction they went or who they hit. But they most definitely went off.
