Hat kid's day started as it normally does. She woke up, did her morning routine and observed the world below her ship to think about her next trip. Having already cleared Mafia town from time pieces and having her former friend, Moustache Girl, ready to wreak havoc with the ones she'd collect, a new destination was in order. But where to go now?

An answer to her question fell from the sky, literally. An ice blue glowing and flaming form passed right by the huge window of her ship and curved to be heading towards the planet below. Maybe it was a time piece falling only now?

With this possibility in mind, Hat Kid jumped out the trap installed in the glass. She closed it then pushed herself off the wall of her ship to dive after the form that fell towards the planet in an unnatural light. The meteor crashed not too far from a desert, at the edge of water that formed a beach with the sand. Hat Kid dived towards it, her umbrella opening halfway through and allowing her to gently float down. She was quick to remark the big crater that followed the crash of the meteor, even quicker to see how deep it was when she landed at the edge of it. She looked down in the hole, seeing a black form in the middle of the dust that the fall made fly. The little girl was kind of confused as to why no one was here yet. The noise the thing made was probably deafening!

She decided to slide down, her umbrella on the ready. She slightly coughed at the smoke tickling her nose and soon she was at the same level as the thing, whatever it was. The form straightened to a tall stance. Black clad arms and legs became visible as the smoke cleared a bit more then a glowing eye stared back at Hat Kid, making her freeze in fear. That wasn't a thing, it was someone and someone powerful seeing how they survived the crash. The smoke cleared in a harsh gust of wind that made the kid fall back. She was waiting for a hit on the hard ground but instead a soft surface greeted her butt. She looked at the surface in question to see the sky blue scales of a long lizard tail. She looked up to see the person crouching down as low as possible.

"Sorry for the hit kid, didn't quite see you there. You alright?" The woman apologised

The woman looked human, with a pale skin and dark brown curls. Her eye was ice blue and looking down at Hat Kid with genuine concern. Her teeth, the other way to see that it wasn't a human facing Hat Kid, were sharp like a shark's. Hat Kid was too shocked to speak, making the woman frown. The taller brunette gently brushed her hand against the kid's forehead and a reassuring wave of cold calmed Kid's mind. The younger being shook her head and smiled at the woman.

"Thank you, miss. My name is Hat Kid." She chirped

The woman brightly grinned at the change in behaviour and pat her head.

"The name's Ruby, it's nice meeting you kid!" The taller girl replied

The short kid stood back straight and the tail folded back in the woman's back, gently swishing from side to side. Ruby looked up at the edge of the crater then back at the child.

"Need help getting outta here kid?" She asked

Hat Kid looked up and scratched the back of her head.

"I might, I'm not THAT capable of escalating things." She answered

Ruby chuckled and invited the younger being on her back. Hat Kid excitedly accepted and Ruby stood straight, making the little girl gasp.

"You're really tall!"

The taller girl crouched down again, her legs glowing slightly blue through the fabric of her pants, then jumped up with a boost, making the kid squeak in surprise. Ruby landed on the ground safely and let the girl down. The latter had an awestruck face with stars in her eyes. Ruby laughed and sat down, deciding to stay at the kid's height. She might have had her shape shifting ability but she didn't know anything about the kid beside her name. Speaking of her, she grabbed Ruby's hands in her own, a grin stretching her lips.

"That. Was. AWESOME!" Hat kid exclaimed

Ruby eye closed grinned at the kid.

"I know I am!" The pale girl chuckled

Hat Kid laughed.

"Say, how come you fell from the sky?" The latter asked, calming down

The seemingly adult of the two scratched the back of her neck.

"Well, I'm a universe traveler. I can open portals to places like you've never seen and would normally not. But...the first portal I open to a new universe is random. It opened in space and shot me out like a rocket!" Ruby explained

Hat Kid had her eyes wide in wonder by the end of the explanation. Then an idea came to the kid.

"I am a space traveler! But I got troubles while passing by the planet and now I have to find the time pieces for my ship.

The younger girl pointed up at her ship, Ruby followed her gaze and whistled in admiration.

"That's one big ship."

She turned back to the alien girl.

"If ya want I'll help ya bud. I know how it feels."

Hat Kid brightened from her pout and hugged the woman. In a bright light, they were both on the ship and Ruby's hair was puffed up in a giant afro, making Kid laugh. Ruby soon followed in the fit of laughter, while desperately trying to groom her hair back in its original place. When both of them calmed down, Hat Kid decided to give her new friend a tour of the ship, even if a few rooms were still hard to access. Much to the kid's surprise, Ruby a lot of curiosity and awe seeing the different rooms. Maybe it was different from her home?

When they came back in the lobby, Kid decided to invite her new friend to stay in the ship with her for the woman's time in this universe. Ruby was hesitant to accept but with much convincing (and puppy eyes) from the shorty, she accepted to remain on the ship for a while. The two girls went back to Kid's room and the latter allowed Ruby to sleep in the pillow mountain. Ruby let herself fall in it with a relieved sigh, taking a sitting position was she sunk a bit in the cushions.

"Kid, how about resting for now? You'll be able to explain everything to me when I can easily hear ya, 'kay?"

Hat Kid yawned and nodded in agreement. The shorter brunette was surprised to see her new friend fast asleep almost instantly, then she remembered that Ruby opened portals to whole new universes, not time rifts like herself. She was probably really tired from opening the portal to this universe. The shorty smiled to herself, Ruby seemed like a good friend to have. Hat Kid dressed in her pyjamas and huddled up under her covers.
