Chapter Sixteen
Percy Jackson
A few weeks went by and Nico had found out more about like, me being abused. Which I think...
It changed how he saw me. He became a little more distant, made a lot less physical contact and we definitely weren't official by any means. If you could even count us as a sort of thing anymore.
After a few weeks, he decided that he wanted to stay with his dad for a while. While could be bullshit, but I didn't care enough to really find out.
Well, I cared.
I didn't have the energy to find out and look around and be worried. My brain doesn't know how to function as of right now.
Dad visited asking about Nico. If I'd seen him and all of this bullshit.
So I got upset and we got in a fight.
We yelled at each other.
And then I tried to kill myself.

Because why else would I get a call at camp. It wouldn't be my mom or anyone from my family checking in. They do call, but they do it on Fridays. I'm still on good terms with them, I go home for the holidays and what not. But there isn't a med program or an internship back home that isn't as good as camps. So I stay here.
But no, the call had to be about Percy. Because technically, I'm his doctor here. So they had to call to tell me that hey, he's in the hospital because he tried to kill himself.
Slightly surprised, I told Chiron I had to go into the city. A medical emergency. He didn't question and just let me go.
On the way there, I got my Friday phonecall.
"Hey, little man!" My older brother, Thomas exclaimed. In a good mood. "When are you coming home next? Mom misses that other guy you brought with for the holidays."
He paused.
"Oh, and I miss you." He added on and I rolled my eyes.
"Well I'm heading into the city right now," I told him. "It was a last minute thing. A dude I treat at camp is in the hospital, so I have to go in and make sure he doesn't need like, special demigod assistance. You could meet me there if you wanted to. You know him."
"Will, I only like four campers." Thomas insisted. "who is it? I just got out of practice, J can grab a snack and meet you there."
"I don't know if you knew him as a camper, because that was before camp for him," I explained, which I'm sure confused him. "do you remember Percy?"
"You... Like the one I dated?"
"Yeah." I confirmed for my brother. "Him."
"He's... He's a demigod?"
"Well, yeah," I responded, shrugging. "he came to camp the year after he went to school with us."
"So who's his dad?"
I didn't respond at first, because it's a whole situation, right? It always is.
"Uh, Poseidon," I said, and could almost hear the shock on his head. "yeah, nobody knew what to say when they found out. They weren't that nice, but... He's done with camp now."
"I thought you had to go until you graduated?"
"Well, they'd like you to," I clarified. "But nobody is forcing us to. So he's done. He resigned and whatever else, staying at home with his mom. He's in the hospital right now, though, so I'm supposed to see if it's anything demigod related."
"As long as it's not depression related."
I kept my mouth shut there.
"Hopefully not," I remarked. "But yeah, I'm sure he'd be happy to see you if you wanted to meet me there!"
"Yeah!" That helped him perk up a bit. "Just text me what room he's in and I'll be there!"
So he hung up as Argus dropped me off at the visitor entrance. I've been here one other time for Percy. Same sort of situation. I came with Lee, because I was shadowing him.
Walking into the hospital, I showed them my ID and told them what I was there for, asking for a room. Of which they told me where he was and that there might be a nurse in there being he requested for food recently.
Texting Thomas the hospital name and room number, I headed up and found the room easily. In the mental wing.
The door had his name on it, which was probably a bad sign that he'd be here for a little while. At least... Well, who knows. I don't really know what he did to himself. Just that he it because he's like, suicidal.
Nico warned me about it when he was living there. That he'd be gone for a while, away from Percy. But Percy's suicidal. Extremely so, at that. Actively suicidal.
"Hey," I said, knocking on the door as I entered. "I made it."
He looked like shit, putting it lightly.
Percy just looked down, probably have forgotten that camp sends us to make sure it isn't something camp can cure with some ambrosia and nectar.
It can't cure depression. We tried that last time. It won't even heal the physical injury because it was self inflicted.
Trust me, we tried it all last time.
But as it was, I could tell that he hasn't been sleeping. Or sleeping well. He seemed exhausted.
"Hey, don't start that," I insisted, sitting on the chair next to his bed. He had some food, but not much of it was eaten. Just a little bit. Not what I'd recommend for him. "I know that I can't do anything, Percy. I can't make it go away. My dad can't even do that anymore, being mortal and all. But it..."
I had a thought, something we never asked before.
"Do you go to therapy or anything?"
Percy shook his head.
"We uh, can't afford it," he told me. "Especially now that it's just Mom and me again. We're uh— kind of tight on money. Rents not exactly cheap, and neither are bills, so. Plus, with Estelle... I don't know."
He stopped for a second.
"I brought it up once when I was younger," he told me. "We looked into it and couldn't afford it, so. Insurance doesn't cover it."
Frowning, it made me feel really bad.
"Well maybe I can see if I can talk Chiron into anything." I insisted, but he shook his head as I saw my brother by the door.
"No, he doesn't— I've made a point that I want nothing to do with them anymore," the son of Poseidon told me. "Chiron would be insane to even consider it after what I said about everyone, Will, and you know it. And even if I went, what could I tell them? They'd send me to a fucking crazy house the minute I mention my dad."
"There's demigod therapists."
"Yeah, they're even more expensive than the normal one."
I sighed.
"I'll still mention it," I assured him. "just in general, I won't specify you. But uh, you remember Thomas, right?"
"We talked about him at the funeral, Will." He told me. "Of course. Why?"
I motioned towards the door.
"He heard you were in the hospital," I explained to Percy. "Not why. But he heard and wanted to visit. So I'm uh, getting lunch. I'll be back."
I left them to their devices and went on my way.
