Chapter XLVII: The Lies in Your Eyes

My head hit the pillow. I could feel Angus' weight over me, the bed shifting under the both of us. The dogs were downstairs eating dinner and Angus swooped me up into his arms and took me to our bedroom, not bothering to close the door behind us. His lips were on mine in a second and I hooked my arms around his neck pulling him closer.

Our kisses were slow and gentle. We were in no hurry. We just wanted to be with each other in the moment. No matter how it ended.

I tugged on the back of his shirt a little, feeling his shoulders and arms underneath. Losing myself in his embrace and warmth I barely noticed the sound of the nightstand drawer. Opening my eyes I pulled away from him. "Ang..."

"What's this?" he asked. He was holding a bottle. The bottle I didn't want him to see. He turned it around in his hand reading the label, then showed me. "What is this?"

"Sleeping pills," I answered casually. Thinking maybe if I didn't make them out to be a big deal he'd just put them back and grab whatever he wanted in the first place. Angus continued looking at the label, inspecting every word in fine print. "They're just over the counter stuff."

"I can see that," he said reading something. "What're ya' doin' with these?"

I wasn't sure how to answer that. "For sleeping," I said.

"I figured," he said. "I meant why?"

"Like you've never had trouble sleeping before?" I snapped, squirming my way out from under him. I sat on his side of the bed while he sat on mine examining the bottle some more. "What are you looking for?"

"I'm jus' readin' it," he said. "Course I've had trouble sleepin', but I've not taken sleepin' pills for it."

"If it bothers you so much I won't take them anymore," I said getting a little irritated and therefore mouthy. Angus finally took his eyes off the bottle and looked at me. He set the bottle on the nightstand and held his arms out for me. Despite my decent mood being trampled on I accepted his offer and leaned into him, letting him wrap his arms around me.

The dogs came up the stairs sniffing around. Slowly pushing the door open and lumbering inside. Sniffing the bed and helping themselves up. Cooper started chewing on the bed covers while Atlas licked his front paws. We watched them as we sat there, any spark between us fizzled out.

Sleeping pills help the day end a lot faster.
