Chapter V: Detalhes

"You take one first, I'll wait," Angus said, throwing his suitcase on our hotel bed. He sniffed his shirt and smiled. "Don't smell too bad yet."

I took a step toward the bathroom and stopped short. Another little light bulb flickered on. After all. Why waste water with two showers?

I held my hand out for him. "You sure?" he asked. I nodded and wiggled my fingers. His warm hand grasped mine and he swooped me up into his arms, making me squeal. "Guess I can't say no to you..."

He shut the door behind us and set me down. The bathroom was gorgeous. Decorated in almost every colour of the rainbow with a wreath of fruit hanging on the wall. There was a sign in Portuguese next to it that I couldn't read. The rug on the floor looked handmade. I was careful not to touch anything, not wanting to ruin anything.

I turned the water on and let it run over my skin, nice and cool and steady. Our hotel was a little humid and it was even hotter outside. Angus' suggestion of a long walk on the beach was just what I needed.

After a shower, of course.

I turned around to see Angus standing beside a pile of discarded clothes. No matter how many years I had been with this man he could still give me butterflies. "Need any help?" he asked helping me out of my leather jacket. Just getting that off felt much better. Piece by piece Angus helped me remove my clothes and the discarded pile grew. Pulling the curtain aside, he stepped back. "After you," he said.

With a fluttering heart I stepped onto the tiles and let the water cover me. Clean and cool, I was in Heaven. Angus pulled the curtain shut behind us and closed his eyes as the water splashed onto his face. "This is nice, ain't it?" he asked.

I didn't say anything. I was too busy losing myself in the shower. I stepped aside to let Angus try it out and saw a tiny bottle of complimentary soap. It was labelled Brazilian jasmine in English in tiny print. I helped myself to a generous amount. It smelled fresh. "You can have the rest," I said handing the bottle to Angus. "There isn't much."

"Better than none," he said pouring the rest into his palm. Between the two of us we got a decent lather going. I simply had to coat every inch of my skin in bubbles. Angus laughed when I became a fluffy cloud. "That you under there?" I decided to share some with him so I collected a heap in my hands and placed it on his head. I clapped with glee. "Thank you," he said. "The Michelin Man an' Roger Ramjet."

I laughed and almost slipped on the wet tile. Angus caught me and pulled me awfully close to him. He washed the bubbles out of his hair and helped me rinse off my outfit. He placed his hands on my delicate waist. I shivered, unsure if from him or if the water was getting too cold.

I didn't question it.

I let him envelope me in a hug and rest his chin on my shoulder. His warm skin pressed flush against mine. Strands of wet hair tickled my cheek. The sound of his breathing soothed me. "I'm glad you're here," he mumbled.

I sighed. "Me too." Something I had noticed earlier caught my attention again. "Where's Linda?"

"At home with the kids," he said stroking my back. "Mal misses her."

"I miss her too," I said truthfully. I snuggled further into him. "And I missed you." Angus made a noise of content.

Or was it excitement?

We stayed like that for maybe half an hour before finally deciding to call it quits. I shut the water off and Angus returned to the shower with a couple of towels. They weren't large enough to share so we settled on having our own.

The bed shifted from our weight as we sat down. Water dripped all over the covers like polka dots. I sat on the middle of the bed with my back to the pillows, pulling my knees to my chest. Angus sat across from me crossing his legs. He let his towel hang over his shoulders whereas I wrapped it around me as tight as it could go. "You can borrow a shirt or somethin'," Angus said. "To sleep in, ya' know."

"Thank you," I said. "Are you actually going to bed tonight?" He stared deep into my eyes  and scooted himself a little closer.

"I'll have you know I slept jus' fine last night," he said flicking his finger against my leg. It tickled. "I woke up before anyone else an' Brian did not wake me up with a squirt gun one of the roadies found." He looked at me smugly. I raised my eyebrows.

"That didn't happen..."

"Nope," he said cracking a smile. "But if he ever did, he'd have been careful not to squirt you an' that's why you wouldn't have known about it..." He hid his face trying to cover up his smile. "But it didn't happen, I slept fine."

"Whatever you say," I shrugged. "Maybe I'll ask Brian tomorrow."

"You can't, we have an interview tomorrow," Angus said kissing my knee.

"I'll wait," I said, my face inching closer to his. His eyes darkened a little. The whole room darkened as the sun went down.

"It'll be six hours long," he said. He kissed my wrist. "An' no breaks." He kissed my arm a few times making me laugh. "Not even for the toilet."

"Then I'll get up early and catch him before it starts." My skin flushed as Angus inched even closer, almost hovering over me. The plush pillows supported my back and I let my legs relax so he could get a little closer. My wet hair dripped onto the crisp sheets and dampened the pillowcases.

"That's jus' too bad 'cause I'll already be up before you from my night of great sleep," he muttered kissing my forehead. "Jus' try gettin' through me, love."

His lips were awfully close to mine.

I don't know what came over me. Call it the heat of the moment or whatever but I grabbed him in a hug and kissed him. His wet skin melted against mine as he returned the hug and the kiss. It was loving and chaste and he pulled away after hardly a minute. "Alright," he said with a sleepy expression. "You win. I didn't sleep until four in the mornin' an' Brian had to wake me up." Just talking about it made him yawn.

I held him against me and let him relax. His eyelids fluttered closed and he snuggled into my shoulder and hair. My towel was falling off but Angus had secured his around himself like a blanket. "You should get some sleep," I whispered, gently scolding him.

"Mmm..." He agreed, his breathing slowing down.

The sun went down. The room was very dark.

I situated myself on the bed so Angus and I were lying down. I used our towels to create a thin blanket that was perfect for the humidity. He lay his head on my chest and a few minutes later I heard him snoring. I stroked his hair, some of it dry already. I attempted a quick kiss. "Love you," I whispered before closing my eyes.
