Another Girl
GEORGE
We arrived at the hospital. I saw a few reporters milling about the entrance; the rest must have gotten tired of chasing after Paul.
I stepped out, opened the door for Margo, and together we walked to the doors. No one recognized me, and we passed through the doors uneventfully.
"Yes? How may I help you?" A sickly sweet voice said from behind the counter. A nurse stood, chewing bubblegum. We walked up to her.
"Hello," I said, "We're here to see Paul. Uh, Paul McCartney-"
"James Paul McCartney," Margo added, and I smiled at her gratefully.
"Well, you don't have to say the full name, everyone knows who he is!" The nurse said with a giggle. "But alright." She looked through a big book, full of names and numbers. The gum popped in her mouth, a bright, ugly pink. "Hmm... Says here that he's expecting visitors... The rest of the band!" she nearly squealed. Then she composed herself and looked us up and down. "I'm sorry, but you don't look like the Beatles."
I proceeded to take off my disguise, and Margo did the same. The nurse's mouth dropped open, and her gum almost fell out of it. "I'm George Harrison," I said, though the introduction wasn't needed. "This is Margo Kelly, Paul's...erm...friend." I added, remembering that Margo had to be kept a secret.
"...alright," the nurse said, in shock. "Paul- Mr. McCartney is in room 1E, down the hall and to the left." She slowly began to smack her gum again as I thanked her and turned to walk away.
"Wait! Mr. Harrison!" I turned back.
She held out a blank sheet of paper. "Would you mind, terribly?" she asked sheepishly.
I walked back to her, grabbed a pen, and quickly scribbled my name. The pen fell to the table with a clang as I pulled Margo down the hallway.
That's all they want. An autograph. A scribble on a page. A piece of us, a breath of our air, anything of ours, just to feel more special than anyone in this bloody world.
PAUL
I heard a knock on the open door, and turned my head to see who it was. Ringo turned, too, and stood up to greet the visitors.
"Hey, George!" he said, giving him a hug.
"'Ello, Ritch!" George replied, just as cheerily. "Long time no see!" He turned to me, and said, "Morning, Paul," a bit quieter. I nodded back, "Ey there George."
A second person walked in. It looked like...
Was I hallucinating? Was it a mirage? I thought she was back home... in Liverpool...
"How are you, love?" RIngo said softly to her.
She replied, "I don't think I'm the biggest priority here, but I'm alright, thanks," then turned to me.
George walked over to the bed, and stood out of my line of view, knowing who I was looking at.
Then... she really was here...
"M-Margo?" I whispered.
Her eyes widened, and tears began to well in them. She quickly wiped them away, and then walked towards me with a faint smile on her face.
"Is she really here...?" I said softly, staring at Ringo, and then George. I looked back at Margo. "A-are you really...?"
"Yes, sweetie, I'm really here," she answered, and sat down slowly in the chair Ringo had sat in.
"She flew in the other day," George added. I didn't look up at him. I stared only at Margo. Her big brown eyes, her beautiful hair of chocolate brown, her button nose, those wonderful ears, her rosy cheeks, her precious lips.
"I was worried, Paul," she said, holding back more tears. "I was worried about you."
I didn't say anything. I just looked at her. Her long neck, her collarbones, which peeked out through her dress, her slender arms, which lied folded at her lap.
I reached out to her with one hand. I wanted to hold her in my arms, to hug her tenderly, to lock her in an embrace, but the most I could do was go for her hand. She took my hand in both of hers, and one tear flowed down her beautiful face, outlining her perfect features.
With my other hand, I gently wiped the tear away, and Margo flashed a quick smile. She placed her head in my hand.
I felt a small tear crawl down my cheek. We stayed like that forever, our hands interlocked, her head resting on my other hand. George and Ringo stood silently by, but I ignored them. I was with Margo, and I never wanted to leave her again.
