I'm Where?!?

The ground looked had a lot of dirt and I wasn't in a building anymore I could hear someone walking towards me. The tall man looked at me and tipped his hat, "ma'am." He said before walking away.

Then I started hearing singing from the building next to me. I peeked through a window and tried to listen to the lyrics.

"1776. New York City."

I felt my eyes widen, "I am in 1776!" I whispered. I wasn't as surprised with the New York City part because that's where the orphanage was. 'Well, I guess I'm glad I wore my dress today." Suddenly, I seen three guys walk into the building. The one that walked in first had his fluffy brown hair pulled back into a ponytail. I didn't get a good look at his face but it looked like it had a lot of freckles. The second guy was a tall, burly man. He had a beanie on his head so I couldn't get a good look at his hair but I could guess that it was black. The last guy also had his hair up in a ponytail but it wasn't as fluffy as Freckles ahead of him. He looked at me, smirked, and then winked at me just like my father did.

From inside I heard the three men's voices for the first time. "Yo, yo, yo, yo. What time is it?" Freckles sang.

"Show time!" the other two yelled.

I could faintly hear another voice, "Like I said."

"Show time, show time. Yo, I'm John Laurens in the place to be. Two pints o' Sam Adams, but I'm workin' on three. Those redcoats don't want it with me. 'Cause I will pop chick-a pop these cops till I'm free."

'John Laurens?' I thought, 'Where have I heard that name before?"

"Oui oui, mon ami, je m'appelle Lafayette. The Lancelot of the revolutionary set. I came from afar just to say bonsoir. Tell the king casse-toi. Who's the best? C'est moi.

'So, he's not from America, if I had to guess I'd say France. But I feel like I've heard that Lafayette before too.'

"Brrrah, brraah. I am Hercules Mulligan. Up in it, lovin' it, yes I heard your mother said 'come again'. Lock up your daughters and horses, of course. It's hard to have intercourse over four sets of corsets."

I blocked out the rest of the song. 'John Laurens, Lafayette, and Hercules Mulligan. Wait, 1776 was around the time of The Revolutionary War so...' I silently gasped.

"Well if it isn't the prodigy of King's college. Aaron Burr." I heard.

"Well that confirms it." I said out loud.

"Confirms what?" A voice with an accent asked.

I jumped around to see Lafayette standing at the door. "Nothing really. Just talking to myself."

"Well, alright." He sounded like he wanted to talk more but before he could say anything another voice came from behind his shoulder.

"Laf! There you are. You left before you could met Al-." The voice was John's, "Oh, hey. Who's this?"

"Don't know. I just found her here, um, how you say... hanging out?"

"Oh, cool. What's your name?" John asked me.

"Um," my shy self started to come out with all this attention, "Re-Rebecca, sir"

"Oh there's no need for the formalities. Just call me John. Oh, and nice to meet you Rebecca."

"Nice to meet you too."

"What are you doing here, Rebecca?" Lafayette asked.

"W-Well I was just walking around when I heard s-singing from that building," I lied just a little bit.

"Would you like to come inside and meet Herc and the new guy?"

I only nodded still a little shy but I was slowly warming up to these two.

I walked inside with John and Laf on both sides of me.

"Hey guys!" John yelled.

Hercules and a smaller man with light brown hair pulled into a ponytail looked over to us.

"John. Laf. Who's this?" The big man said.

"This is Rebecca. Rebecca, this is Hercules and Alexander."

The two of them bent down to my level and each one reached out to shake my hand one at a time to which I accepted.

"So, how old are you Rebecca?" John asked.

"I'm 12"

"And if you're twelve, where are your parents?"

"Um... well they um..." I trailed off.

Nobody seemed to understand what I meant except Alex and Aaron who gave me said looks. John, Laf, and Herc looked at Aaron and Alex and gained a look that told me that they understood. I used to listen to Hamilton all the time before my parents died so I know that Alex's mother died when he was 12 and his father left when he was 10.

"Well, 12 is too young to have a drink but I'm sure that the bartender has some juice or something for you." Lafayette said, rubbing circles on my back, trying to make feel better.

I wiped the tears that started to fall down my cheeks and smiled at Laf. The group led me over to the bartender and I asked him if he had anything that I could have and he gave me a glass of apple juice.

When we got back to the table, I was staring at my reflection in my cup. I felt tears starting to well back up in my eyes, I haven't thought about my parents' death in 2 years when it happened.

"I may not live to see our glory," someone started singing. I looked up and seen Alex smiling at me.

"I may not live to see our glory," I repeated.

"But I will gladly join the fight."

"But I will gladly join the fight," John, Laf, and Herc joined me this time.

"And when our children tell our story."

"And when our children tell our story."

"They'll tell the story of tonight."

"Let's have another round tonight." Herc said.

"Raise a glass to freedom. Something they can never take away. No matter what they tell you. Raise a glass to the five of us." John started.

"Tomorrow there'll be more of us." I sang. The four men clapped.

"Telling the story of tonight." Everyone joined.

We continued to sing this into the night before my world turned white again.
