Step Four: Preventing Mary-Sues and Gary-Stus

This is a big big part of making your character. No one likes Mary-Sues, though we've all made them. There are two ways you can prevent this.

1. Quirks

I like to call the little things that make character's stand out quirks. Rose is short and has the Irish temper, which makes for an interesting combination. She tries to fight everyone but usually you can just sit on her. Some OCs are kinda slow on puns or make puns a lot. Others can burst into song even though they aren't really good.

2. Weaknesses

This is huge when making an OC. Do not make them perfect. Do not make them perfect. You don't have to make them weak. Hell, Rose is strong as shit. But she's insecure and small. You can make your character kinda dumb or have no skills. But under no circumstances should your character be "drop dead gorgeous" and "incredibly friendly" and "all the guys/girls want them" and "insanely talented."
