Making an OC Pt. 3
Step 3: Creating the History and Family
This can be tricky, but it's usually really fun. First, decide if you're going to place this OC in a pre-existing world. Pre-existing worlds are easier!
For Rose, I put her in the world of my OCs. This means it's easy to place her in one of the families - Nathaniel's family, to be specific. I made her the daughter of Nathaniel and Luna, another one of my characters. If you're making a character in a new world, you might wanna start off with a family background that is pretty easy to come up with (orphan or normal family both work).
Next, what is the character's history? Remember to incorporate their family as well as their hobbies and likes/dislikes.
Rose has schizophrenia, which is why she likes animals and to be alone, as well as why she likes weapons and writing. This is also why her attitude is so bad. Her family is royalty, so that also plays into her spoiledness.
She grows up with seven siblings, two of which are extreme womanizers. Thus, heavy flirting doesn't impress her. Also, because six of them are boys, she's rough and fights a lot.
Another thing to remember is this: don't conflict history with personality! Yes, you can have a bad backstory and be nice and all, but you wont be a pacifist who can use weapons, or someone who knows nothing about a subject when they grew up around this said subject.
Rose knows a lot about being proper and how to be a blueblood, but she doesn't enjoy it. Just because your character doesn't enjoy something is not a reason for them not to know anything about it!
Next, we will go over the very last thing you need to do when you make your character; what defines them as special and how to make them realistic.
