Cops

I explained to the police that Kayli hadn't rejected me, and that I was shocked when I found the body, which would mean that I wasn't the killer. They didn't listen.

They tested my handwriting. It was a match. They took me in for questioning.

"Ms. Livestein, where were you five nights ago?" The officer demanded.

That was the night Vicki went missing.

"I was working at the diner like I do every night," I explained, still shocked from what had happened. Tears were rolling down my face.

"She's obviously in shock. Let me talk to her," a pretty female detective interrupted.

The other detective left the room.

"Look," the woman said quietly. "I think you're innocent. But my partner here, he thinks he has this case wrapped up. Can you give us any information that could help us?" She handed me a tissue.

I wiped the tears away. "No. There's nothing. Kayli is- was perfect. She wouldn't have any enemies," I said.

That was a lie. She did have one enemy, and I was going to make him pay.
