Hold Up
A police car had stopped them while they'd been driving along the highway. A female cop got out and Thomas opened the door.
"Sorry to bother you, we were just wondering if your caravan is registered for on-road travel." She said, trying hard not to stare at anyone. "We've had a surplus of people trying to get unregistered vehicles on the road." The woman caught Roman's' eye and her face grew warm. Virgil frowned, glancing over at Roman with an odd look in his eyes as he turned to the woman. Joan looked to Thomas with a shrug.
"Our vehicle is registered, thank you!" Virgil snapped huffily, stepping protectively in front of Roman, ignoring the gods' surprised gasp at the emo jumping to his defence. "You shouldn't bother too much, don't worry."
The woman glared at Virgil as if the two had a rivalry. "I assure you, I'm just doing my job! No need to be so rude. May I have confirmation that this vehicle is registered and you are all eligible drivers?"
Talyn stepped in. "Actually, miss, we're not all drivers. Only me, him, them and him." They said, gesturing from themself to Thomas to Joan and finally Virgil.
The police officer hesitated. "Well, I'm sure you won't mind me sending in a sniffer dog, do you? You're getting closer to the border with have with our neighbouring states, so we naturally have to check."
The passengers hesitated and then Patton said slowly. "But why would you need a dog to check anything?" The police officer looked concerned and suspicious.
Virgil walked quietly over to Thomas and whispered, "If I take her, we can go."
"Virgil, no!" Thomas hissed. "You can't just do that! It's not okay-"
"Is there a problem?" Called the woman, growing impatient.
"No, no problem!" Replied Thomas, elbowing Virgil in an attempt to shut him up. Virgil huffed and moved back to Roman, sitting closely and glaring at the woman whenever her gaze trailed over the attractive god who looked slightly stunned by Virgil's' protection.
"There won't be any need for dogs," Tried Joan, smiling. "Sorry for wasting your time."
The officer thought for a moment. "Larry! Get the sniffer dog!" She ordered.
"Logie, do you think I can pet the dog?" Patton asked.
Logan blinked, knowing how warm his face was even if his complexion stayed the same. "I'm sure there'd be no harm in that." He answered.
A golden labrador jumped onto the caravan and began to sniff until it caught sight of Patton. It bounded over to him, barking excitedly as it tried to lick his face happily. Patton giggled, rubbing the dogs' coat giddily.
"O-Our friend is really good with animals," Joan attempted but the woman didn't look convinced. She moved a finger tentatively to her walkie-talkie when Roman sighed, standing up.
The officer looked at him instantly and Roman smiled. "Our friend is really good with animals, don't worry. I know you've got to do your job, but we're in a huge hurry and we've got to get to G-Georgia. Could you let us pass?" He asked smoothly, hunkering down to face the mortal.
The woman's' face was a thick pink. "Sure. Have a great day." She breathed. Patton handed her the labrador reluctantly as the dog struggled to be back with him and the caravan door closed, quickly being driven away.
After five minutes of standing to the side of the highway, the women looked up, snapping out of her stunned mind. "Dammit." She hissed, after realising she had just let a rather suspicious group out of the state with nearly no resistance, before returning to her car.
