On the Clock
"What the hell is going on between you too?" Noah asks with a suspicious look on his face. I keep my mouth shut, as does Kai. We haven't spoken to each other since yesterday, and I'm not planning on breaking our silence. "You know what? I don't care. As long as you pull your shit together and play your part well, then you can go on with this couple's squabble." Almost robotically his hand rises upward and passes me a folded piece of paper. I take it from his hand, opening it, and I skim the brief. As I expected. "Get ready to wire him," Noah nods to the man behind us who is holding a set of cables and an earpiece.
"What's with all these cables? Do I look like a Christmas tree to you?" Kai's eyes dart between the man and the cables, and I barely hold back myself from laughing.
"The cables are for me, you moron," I give him a lopsided grin, which he only ignores. Alright, I should have guessed he wasn't going to speak to me just yet; he is too stubborn, and proud, and many other things which get on my nerves. One could say that people are born with their own life dictionary. Well, in his dictionary words such as common sense or compliance don't exist. I don't know why but for some inexplicable reason I miss his taunting remarks.
Having gotten the message, I quietly watch the man put the earpiece in his ear, or rather, I watch them struggling with each other with no result, until Noah slams his palm on the table and threatens to kill them both. What a bunch of professionals we are.
When Kai finally decides to give in to the man's orders, I get up and grab the radio system. I connect the wires to its side and lift it up by its strapper, making sure everything's in place. Now, it's time for some kick-ass detective work.
