Chapter 15

Chapter 15? Y'all know what that means!

Mega plot twist at the end!

Probably.

I'm not going to tell yoouu!

Grian woke up.

It was as pitch-black as normal in the prison and he groaned, shaking away his dreams about Watchers and Evo. They always came back when he was stressed. Memories of his old friends and world. He sighed again, before sitting up, stretching.

'Good morning, Cub.' He greeted sleepily. There was no reply, and he frowned. 'Cub?'

Silence. Grian breathed deeply, convincing himself that Cub was either sleeping, or pranking.

'Cub, if this is another joke...'

Still nothing, so Grian resolved to wait until he was awake, entertaining himself by trying to list as many blocks as he could in alphabetical order. Once he had reached 'v', and there was still nothing, he began to panic.

'CUB!' He yelled. Loud enough to wake him if he was merely asleep, or at least shock him if he wasn't. 'CUB! ARE YOU STILL HERE?'

Still nothing. Grian fumbled around in his inventory for the torch, which he remembered having last, and pulled it out, lighting it after a couple of attempts.

The prison was empty.

He was alone.

Cub was gone.

'Follow me.'

Cub held Scar's hand tight as they were led into the Vex Cathedral for the first time. Memories of their capture flashed in his head. Running into the other Vexling, accidentally revealing their powers. Running. And then blacking out, and ending up here.

'I found these two un-masks running free and brought them here.'

'Two?'

'Yes, High Evoker. And both have magic.'

'I will deal with them. Now go.'

Scar whimpered quietly as their capturer left, leaving him and Cub alone with this High Evoker, whoever he was.

'We didn't know we needed to go somewhere.' Cub argued truthfully, before the Vexling leader had time to speak.

'Silence.' The High Evoker raised a hand, and Cub shut up. Scar glanced over at him. 'That would be more acceptable if there was only one of you. But there are two. Cowboy, what happened?'

'Me?' Scar looked up, forgetting most words he knew in the moment. 'I...uhh... Cub gave me weird magic?'

'So, an un-mask giving another player our magic? How curious. Why?'

'It was an accident. I kinda panicked.'

'Alright. And what happened to the person who gave you magic?'

'They were killed literally moments after they gave me the magic.'

'Well, this is a very unprecedented situation, and as someone who loves chaos, I'm not really mad at you. But you will still need to be punished.'

Scar shuffled slightly closer to Cub at the word 'punished'. Cub looked over at him, before speaking.

'It's not Scar's fault. I got him into this stuff.'

'Again, silence. Your punishment is that you must look after Scar for the rest of your life. If you hurt him, you will receive the same pain he feels, you are unable to kill him, and if he dies without you protecting him, you will also die.'

'And, Scar.' The vexling whimpered again. 'You will receive a necklace that removes your respawn abilities when you take it off.'

'What? No!' Cub protested. 'You can't do that!'

'BUT. Since it provides respawn abilities, if you wear it in a world where respawn is already off, you will still survive. And now, j̬͒̆ͅo̤̼̽͑ĩ̺̰͍̎͡n̢͛ ̡̱̝̟̎̅̐̕u̡͗s̼̗͔̗͊̌̈̎̐͢.'

The room dissolved away, replaced with one in darkness,  with the only light coming from behind the silhouette in front of him. Scar. Herobrine. Cub stumbled back, alone, terrified, trapped.

''̢̬̦͖͚͐́͐͠͞j̠͂o̦̒ǐ̩̱͍͑͑n̲̤͆͝ ų̛̯̘̝̄̃́̀͟s̖͠,̢̛̦͡ ̮̖̲͋͂̕C̪̼̄͑ȕ͇̲̅b̲̟͎͋̈́̆.̨̦̪͚̄̐̇͡ ̨̠͊͡J̬̦͕̃͛̐ọ̓i͖͌n͉͖̱̎̌̔̚͢ ̤̲̭̽͑͆ứ͎̥s̬̉ ̱̟͇̺̏̃̂͞a͇͡n̹͌d̨̪̋̿ ̠̀w̨̛̥̦̥͆̎̕e ̥̣̣̋̽́ć̨͉̥͛͞a̰̳̦̒͛͘n ͖̼͛̀b̬͇̓͞e̝͚̿͐ to͇̿g̲̽é͎̺͔͒́̋͟t̤̔̇͢h̢̯̠̏͗̿er̼̮̱͓̤͐͆͊͆͡ ̮̬̣̩̓̄̄̇͢͠ă̧̹̋̎͢g̼͒a̤̟͈̞͐̌̽͆í͇̦̈́n̳̠̈̚͟͞.

Skeletal wings tore from his back and he held back a scream. The was a mask in his hands. THE mask.

'You can't make me.' He spat back at the glitch masquerading as his best friend. 'You can't make me put it on.'

'T̝̞̭͛͛̊͆͢he̡̛͙̖͑̆n̲̎ ͖͔̗̖͆̊̀̀͒ͅj̽ͅȍͅȉ̡̺̀ņ͙̬̼͂͌̐͛ ̠̞̇̋́͢u̻͙͒͐s͔̩̲̞̾̌̈́̽.̱͊ J̭̏o͔̮̭̺̖̾́̾̈́͐í̱͆͢ņ̺̐͊ ̨̤̔͋m̧͉̳͑̎́e.̲͋́͢ ̪͈͋͑Ị̑má̮̜̞̍̒g͙̠͒̀ine͈͓̘̾̄͋ ̞͇͆̄͢͡hö͙̯͓̹́̉̐͘w̘̟̫̳͆̀̇̚ ̦̘̮͋́̀g͇͙̣̈͂͌̚͢ŗ̜̻͓̏͂̾̂ẻ͇͇̬̲̏̓̚a͚͗ţ̔ ̹͗w̼͌ě͉̘̹̋͂ ͚͌c̘͈̹̥̈̋̿̔ơ̟̦͕̟̘͛͑͋̄ul͓̾ḍ͛ ̨͕͖̾̈́͞b̨̳̉̀ȩ̱̱̼̘̀̔̔̀͊.'

His vision fogged into pale blue light, and then into white. Cub almost screamed.

He woke up.

Compared to the darkness of the other prison, it was blinding. Herobrine was standing, facing him, in a stone-walled room with barred windows. The glitch smiled, and stepped forward,

'You're awake.'

'I can see that. Where am I?'

'Somewhere you can't escape. Now. Join me.'

'No.'

'Why not?'

'Because I'm not an idiot.'

'I never said you were.'

'It was implied when you asked if I wanted to join your group of monsters.' Cub retorted, still shaken from his dream.

'Then I'll give you the second choice.' Herobrine walked over to him, and held out the mask. Cub recoiled slightly at the sight of it, the grinning vex face staring soullessly at him. 'Join us, or wear it.'

Cub snatched the mask from the glitch's hand.

'Neither.'

'Why? You had no problem with wearing it before.'

'I don't need to answer to a monster like you.' Cub spat back. 'And you already know why.'

'Why then? Just tell me. Or Scar will give you the third option.'

Hiding the slight pause at his friend's name, Cub narrowed his eyes.

'Why can't you tell me?'

'You'll know why if he does. Join us, join the vexes, or Scar will give the third option.'

'Fine.'

Herobrine glitched away without another word. Scar looked at Cub for a moment, before walking away,

'No. No. Nonononono. Not you. Why you. Why are you here?'

'Scar. What happened. I can try to help.'

'You can't. Cub, you can't. Why did you do this?!'

'I didn't do anything!'

'Well, you did. Cub, Herobrine said that if I came back, I would have to kill you.'

'What?!'

'He said I would have to kill you! He told me- he told me he would force me to kill you if he had to.'

'Why?!'

'Because he hates you. He hates you for being my friend.'

'Right, we're not doing that. Where's the exit?'

'I don't know! Herobrine normally teleports inside these weird places without me knowing. And then he makes me watch as he destroys the lives of my friends.'

'What did he do?'

'He made Tango murder Impulse. In cold blood. With Impulse thinking he wanted to do it.'

'Really?'

'Yes. And he'll make me kill you too.'

'There must be something I can do?'

'There's no way out of here.'

'Vex magic?'

'How would that help?!'

'I don't know.'

Herobrine flashed back for a moment, approaching, a sword drawn. Scar flashed back, dropping the weapon.

'I WON'T DO IT!' He screamed. 'I WON'T KILL HIM!'

He huddled up on the floor, crying, head in his hands. Everything in Cub screamed for him to help, calm his friend down, but as he tried to get up, he realised some kind of magic was holding him back.

You did this to him. A voice in the back of his head whispered. You did this. You ruined his life.

He looked between the mask that had turned his life upside down and the friend who'd helped him so much without even knowing, then back to the mask before he put it on. Scar looked up, horrified.

'No. Nonononono... Cub, You don't understand. Please. Take it off. Please.'

'It's that or joining him.'

'B...but you've already joined him. It was a trick. It was just a trick.'

'How?'

'H...he made me do it. He made he go there, alone, at night. He made me kill the Head Evoker.'

'What?!' Cub finally realised what his friend was saying. 'No...'

Herobrine was the leader of the Vexlings.

Woo...

Plot twists...
