Living in space in a confided room with her father was all she'd ever known, Carmen dreamed of Earth and its green nature, swimming in the cool oceans or read books from the past. A nuclear war ended all of what Carmen Flores dreamed of, killing everything and everyone on Earth. The young girl kept to herself besides Camila Brown, Carmen had known Camila since she could remember- their parents being close led them being close. Paul and Alejandra Flores were the privileged ones the ark, the mother had a seat on the council, the father worked high up. Everything changed when Paul fell sick and wouldn't get better, Alejandra wouldn't let her husband die- she steals medicine and her friends float her.

Camila loved Carmen, she would do anything for the girl she looked up too like letting herself get arrested so Carmen wouldn't get floated since she was eighteen. The older girl tried to take the blame but the council found the evidence in the younger girls clothes. When Camila got arrested, Carmen had never felt more alone- her father drunk everyday, barely living and her only true friend gone. She finds a friend in a mechanic, Raven Reyes.

Carmen Flores hears from her father that Chancellor Jaha is sending one hundred delinquents to Earth. The Flores girl can't let Camila die.
