~ 5: Runaway Lily ~

Lily's POV

I wake up in the middle of the night and I can't sleep. I think about all the memories of school. I light a lantern and check to see if everyone else is still asleep and I think about the conversation I had with my dad yesterday. What if I just run away once we get at the new house? I mean, I could just get an Uber driver... I hear some noise from my parents' tent.

Mom's POV

I wake up and hear some footsteps outside. I check to see if my husband is still sleeping and he is. So then I wonder, Who could that be outside? Or worse, what could that be outside? I wonder if I should go outside to see who or what is outside but I also think of the bad stuff that could happen to me. So I list the pros and cons in my head...

Pros: If  I go outside, it could be Lily or Candy or Chase. Maybe I could talk to them and figure out what they were doing outside in the middle of the night. But... A con is that it could be a horrifying bear.

Wait. It can't be a bear. If it was, I would've heard screaming by now. So I walk out to see who or what it was and I see Lily sitting by the campfire singing to herself.

Lily's POV

I hear footsteps behind me and turn around quick.

"Ahh!" my mom and I say in unison. "Oh! Honey...I didn't mean to scare you like that but, what are you doing out here? Is everything alright?"

I think about running away...Should I tell mom about it? Nah...She's gonna try to talk me out of it. Maybe if we're close enough, I can run away later when my mom goes back to sleep.

"Mom? How far are we from home? And I mean our old home, not the new home."

"Well, I'm guessing 2 to 3 hours or so? Why do you ask?"

"Oh, no reason. I was just wondering. I just miss all my friends you know."

"Ok then. But you didn't answer my question. What are you doing out here?"

I try to make up an excuse. "Well, I couldn't sleep so I just wanted to get some fresh air and chill out here for a while. I'm sorry if I woke you up, but you can go back to sleep if you would like. I'd like to stay out here and adore the nature for a bit." Well, that wasn't a lie...I mean it is the truth just not the complete truth..."

"Oh ok then. Well, I'll head back to the tent then. Just promise me you won't stay up all night out here by yourself."

"Yea yea...I'll go back to sleep in a second. Once you're sound asleep, I will sleep. I don't want to scare you again...Hehe"

"Ok well, goodnight hon. See you in the morning."

"Goodnight." I wave at her and once she's out of sight I wait for about an hour or so to make sure she's asleep. I tiptoe over to her tent and try to listen for her snoring.

"Ahh...Oohh...Ahh...Oooh..."

Perfect! She's asleep. Okay, now to get an uber driver out here... Hmm... I go over to my stuff and pack everything I need; clothes, flashlight, phone, my dad's hotspot box, a portable charger and the charger, food, and drinks. Okay, now to set up a plan. I'm going to run as far as I can and find the closest building. Then, I'm going to call an Uber driver to come to pick me up and bring me home! Oh no! I almost forgot! I need money! I go to the van and search for some money. Bingo! I spot 2, 50 dollar bills in one of the storage bins. Why in the world would my parents leave a 50 dollar bill in the van? Oh well, lucky me. Now one problem... I can't have the Uber driver bring me home... Maybe I can text one of my friends if they will let me crash at their place. Oh, should I stay at a hotel?

I go to my phone and look for the closest hotel to my house. Bingo! I'm so lucky. There's a hotel literally 5 minutes away. Benefits of living in the city...I don't even know why my parents would want to move away from a city... I text Kana because I know she's awake around this time. I tell her what I'm about to do.

I sigh. Lily. You. Can. DO THIS! I go to my phone and look for the closest building. Hmm...A gas station about 9 minutes away. Perfect!!! I drink some water before I get ready to go. I look at the campsite. I'm sorry guys. I have to do this. I run away and never look back. I get at the gas station and well. You know how it goes. The Uber driver picks me up, I get to the hotel, check in, get a room, and pay. So far, everything going well. I check my phone and see that Kana hasn't replied but she read it. I hope she's taking this well. She should be happy right? I mean, I know she's gonna think this is a bad idea but she's happy about it. I know it. Do I?
