25: friend or foe

*Hellbents pov*
Man, Sal is one in a million. She's not scared to be herself or share her opinion. That's what I like most about her. *Knock knock* someone knocks on the door, interupting my thoughts. I open it. It's the police. Hear you murdered Anne Simpson. They say. I think of what Sal told me to. *Lie your way through* I stare at the police. They come in. One of them raises their eyebrows after looking at the floor. Hey, I know it's tidy, but at least it's an organised mess. What? Oh no, you're thinking of Harry Jackson I say back. They stop. I can tell they're considering to arrest me or not. Ok Sir, thanks for your time they smile before leaving me. I go back to thinking. Harry Jackson was a criminal who recently escaped one of the high security prisons. I try going back to thinking. *Knock knock* Chloe comes in. Um Hellbent...do you know why Sal is so off lately? She barely talks to me and Nina anymore and she's always out whenever we wanna talk to her she asks nervously. I see shes picking at her fingernails. Sal...is pregnant I reply. Chloe shuts the door and runs away. I hear another door open. I know it's Sal because she usually does something with her shoes to make you do sports. I hear going downstairs. I can see that she has laundry because Chloe didn't close the door all the way. I get up and follow her to the laundry room. Like usual, she's washing her half zips and sweat pants. Hey Sal I say as she dumps her laundry inside the machine. She jumps. Don't sneak up on me like that she replies. She puts in the powder and conditioner and turns on the washing machine. What are you doing now? I ask, sliding onto the table where they keep the supplies. Talking to you she says. She goes up to me. Dude, did the police come to you today? She asks. Ya, but- I stop mid sentence. The door has squeaked opened. It's Melissa.

*Melissa's pov*
I go into the laundry room and see Hellbent and Sal. Hi Hellbent I say. Sal looks at me with a look of disgust on her face. I ignore her. I don't know what it is about her, she needs to learn to lighten up and live life. Heard you got held behind after class today. How was that? He didn't do anything weird did he? I ask Sal. She responds by turning her back and talking to Hellbent. That bitch wants to steal my future husband away. Melissa, you're a horrible person. You tried killing Sal and you plan to expose her Hellbent tells me. I act shocked. What? Oh no I laugh. You need to learn how to have fun. When I crashed into you on Sunday that was only for fun. They stare at me. So it was funny when I almost died? Sal hisses. I nod. She sighs and leaves. I'm going to bail Tolop out of jail. Wanna come? She asks Hellbent. No, I need to talk with Melissa the perfect human being he replies. She leaves. Me and Hellbent stare at each other. His eyes stare into my soul. Melissa, what's making you hurt others? One day that'll land you into trouble he tells me. I ignore him and dump my jeans and vest tops into the washing machine. Hellbent...do you really think Sal is all that perfect? I ask, turning around. The fuck do you mean by that? He replies. I go over to the cupboard. The washing machine where Sal put her clothes in isn't on. Think she forgot. I have an idea. I pour in half the packet of power and conditioner into the compartment and close it. I turn it in for two hours. I bend down to the cupboard and take out my folder. It has sheets that I printed off of Sal when I searched her on Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat etc. Hellbent gets off the table. What's so interesting about papers? He asks, scornfully. Wait until you see the pictures I smile. I take out sheet one. It was Sal when she was fifteen. She was drunk and wanting a fight. What's your excuse for her? I ask Hellbent. Alcohol messed up her head he replied. I frown and take out the next sheet. She's a model on this one and she's posing very dirty poses. Invent your way out of this. He looks at it. Well, she's a little bit filthy like that, but you've to learn to let it go He responds. God damnit! He's an answer for everything. Right, let's see what you think about this I say and I go to the cupboard again and get the laptop. I search up strippers, 2015. The documentary I searched up earlier comes up. I fast forward to the middle. She is so busted. Is that...Sal?...Pole dancing? Man, she's good at it Hellbent laughs. I feel my face going red with anger. Hellbent leaves to go up to his room. Im so angry. I take a look around the room. I still haven't turned on my clothes. I sigh and turn it on. The door opens. It's Sal. Hi! Listen, I just wanna say- She begins. I don't care about what you have to say I snap back. She takes out her phone. Wanna join in with me? She smiles. I turn around and she starts doing deep knee bends to the beat of a double crossed remix. Join in she smiles again. Why not I think to myself. I still hate her, but doing her work out can't hurt. She starts jogging on the spot. Melissa, why do you hate me? She asks. I dunno. I suppose it's because you're part of the squad. Not trying to be mean, but you don't really belong over here. I reply.
She stops stretching for a minute. Don't tell anyone this, not even Nina, but after my kids are born, I might be leaving this country she says, unfazed. Its at that moment, I understand why everyone likes her. Sorry about crashing into you yesterday I apologise. No hassle. She responds. Today after class, Mr Diego tried to kiss me but Hellbent saved me she says. Ya, Mr Diegos fairly weird and Dolan is the definition of cute I laugh. She laughs too. Well, that's a heap of wet washing she bursts, as she takes out her laundry and puts them in the tumble dryer. Ya, I kinda put in more than recommend I grimace. No harm done she smiles. Hellbent comes back in. Sal, can I talk to you a minute? I brace myself. No, say it right here and now she says. Were you really a pole dancer? He asks. Sal shakes her head. No. I laugh. Na, I made up that documentary I say. We all stare at each other. It's nice to see you to believe friends he says. Sal goes to the tumble dryer and takes out her now dry clothes. See ya Melissa she yells before leaving.
