Chapter 1

I love the smell of the coffee shop I work at, and the over all vibe. Everything in here is so welcoming and simple, the dim lights, the corner nooks, the half awake college students doing their best to focus on their work. It's the exact
opposite of where I was born.

I've been working here for 2 years, living under the alias of Samatha Brown, a girl with an ordinary past and an ordinary future, a college girl, on her way to med school.

Sometimes I feel bad for living a lie. I really feel bad when I go home to Samatha's family, they have no clue of the imposter I am. When I was leaving Michigan and on my way to Florida, I found her. She was laying in her smoking car, blood dripping from a hideous gash on her face. It was obvious that she wasn't going to make it, so I stole her memories, I dragged her body out to the woods after she was fully dead, and I buried her.

Coincidentally we had the same type of car, at the time I took that as a sign of fate before I switched our plates, replicated the body I had been using, (Carol James) and I laid her there, then left in the young blonde body of Samantha.

Hearing the bell on top of the door ring snaps me out of my thoughts. I finish wiping down and clearing the table, before I headed over to take his order.

He's facing the window with his back to me, so all I see is his outline. It's hauntingly familiar. As I stock closer with the pen and paper pad in my sweaty hands, I start to shake. I've seen this man before. He's found me. Or at least he thinks he has, but in this body he has no way of knowing it's me. Right?

I mean I wear contacts identical in color to Samantha's brown eyes, to cover up my red ones. That's the only thing that stays the same in all of the body's I hop into, I just can't seem to be able to escape the red of my past.

I step up to him with a fake smile on my face, afraid that he will be able to see right through me, like he always could.

"Hello! Welcome to Moody Cafe!" I say the introduction much more cheerfully than usual, I had forgotten how handsome he was. "My name is Samantha, and I will be your server for the evening, is there anything I can get you?" I asks as I look into his never ending blue/black eyes. His hair is longer than the last time I saw him. The black curls reaching just below his ear, taunting his sharp jaw line. He looked just as much of a god now then he did then, with his perfect, smooth cinnamon skin, and paper white teeth.

"Ah yes, I'll have the," he puts his hand on his cleft chin, pondering his decisions, "Scarlet, latte please." He says with a knowing smirk as panic settles across my face. He knows it's me, that's the only reason why he would order that.

"Of course, I'll be right back." I tell him, not even bothering to write it down on the pad. As soon as I reach the kitchen, I run for the door that lets out into the ally way. I can't believe after all these years, that he's found me. I knew I shouldn't have stayed here for so long, no matter how perfect Samantha's family and life was.

I push open the door, then start briskly walking towards my car. In my panic, I hadn't noticed that I was being followed until it was to late. He pushes me up against the wall, his body dangerously close to mine. He looks at me with those midnight eyes, sending shivers down my back, he's always had that effect on me.

He holds my arms at my side, with a smirk on his face. Leaning down he runs his nose down the column of my neck, taking in my smell.

"You should have known that you couldn't hide from me, amor." He says in his perfect Spanish accent. I gasp as he sinks his fangs into my neck, feeding on me.

"Jasper, I-I." I don't know what to say, as he drains Samantha's appearance from me, rendering me black haired and red horned. I feel my muscles elongating, into my 5'10 height, Sam was only 5'3, I forgotten how it had felt to be tall.

"There you are precious, Scarlet, why must you always hide from me?" He ask pulling back looking into my eyes.

"You know why." I sigh looking away from him.

"Is it really so bad mi amor? You used to love fighting the bad fight." He reminds me, tucking a loose collection of hairs behind my ear. "You would always win too. Why was that not enough, amor? What changed your mind?" He looks sad, and curious, longing spreading through out is eyes.

"Jasper, I may have been made for battle," I say to him, "but you know how much I craved a simple life." I release my hand from his grasp, bringing it up to cup his cheek. "You couldn't give me what I needed, that's why I left." I feel tears start to well up in my eyes as he leans into my touch, I've missed my soul mate so much.

"Please Scar, please come home with me, I will do whatever you ask, just please don't leave me again." Tears start to fall from his eyes. We've been apart for to long.

"You know I can't go back Jas, it won't matter what you or I want, he will make me fight, and I won't be his puppet again." My heart breaks at the sadness in his eyes.

"Mi amor, I will follow you to the ends of the earth, just please, come back to me." He places his forehead on mine, his tears falling onto my face, mingling with mine.

"How can I deny you, my love?" I ask him, running my fingers through his hair. "But where will we go?" I cant go home, or my father will make me his war weapon once again.

"How about here?" He questions me. "It's so quite, so calm here with no interruptions from your father, you know he wouldn't dare step a foot in this town." He says in refrence to Salem Massachusetts, where I've been residing for the past 2 years. Father wouldn't dare step on ground with so many haunting witches, he would be dead in seconds.

"Seems perfect my love," I say griping the sides of his face. "Oh how I've missed you."

__________
7 months later

I had abandoned Samantha's body, and planted her car and a replica of her in it on the side of the road, her parents got 2 extra years with her. But I couldn't let them continue living a lie, they were much to good for that, the town had mourned, and me and Jasper had moved in.

It feels so good to not have to hide anymore, I think to myself as I rub the baby bump on my belly. Jasper and I had waisted no time in getting to 'know' each other again, not even enough time to use a condom.

He had opened up a diner for me and him to run, and we had a nice little loft above it. It had 2 bedrooms a kitchenette a living room, and a bathroom. It was quaint, but it was ours, the first thing we've had together that didn't involve war or my father.

I smiled softly to myself, as I recalled all the memories we've made here so far. Like when a drunk customer mistook our loft as a bathroom, and almost spotted me in full demon form, horns and all. Or when we had a fight a few months ago when Jasper had suggested Lenard as a name for our future child. Many other memory's flooded my mind by my reminiscing was soon interrupted by a firm series of knocks on our cedar wood door.

I heaved myself up from the couch, thinking that it was just Girl Scouts again, they've been knocking none stop. Not that I mind, I just ran out of thin mints, and the baby wants some more -ok I want some more,  I've just been blaming my ability to go through a box a day on pregnancy cravings.

I opened the door, and gasped when what I expected to be innocent little girls scouts turned out to be my father. Stunned all I could do was stand there and stare in shock, I never would have thought him bold enough to show up here.

"Well aren't you going to invite me in?" He asks me as I started to back up in fright.

"JASPER!" I called out in fear, I may have been able to take him a few months ago, but I'm 7 months pregnant, it's not good for the baby and I to be in battle mode.

"Hmm I had hoped that we could do this the easy way." He says to me. "But don't worry my dear, I'm not here for you," he informs looking a my stomach, "it's that little boy I'm here for. And I'll be back to collect." With that he disappeared.
