A Generation Defined

A tragic landmark in human history,

The answer and cure to which is a total mystery.

A travesty, a pandemic, an economic crisis, a contagious illness,

That's frozen global society into complete stillness.

As Boris and other world leaders ordered a lockdown,

Each village, community, city and country became a ghost town,

At least they should have done if everyone followed the rules,

Those that refused to are utter plebs and fools!

Thank you to all those keyworkers,

Battling that viral enemy, those invisible germy lurkers,

A celebratory clap for them hardly seems enough,

When all the rest of the public are called to do is sit at home like scruffs,

But we don't have to lose our minds in a hedonistic haze,

TV binging, wasting our days,

We can be kind, help and volunteer,

Comfort the vulnerable with a phone call, ease their fear.

With each depressing death toll headline,

We pray for an answer, for the fatalities to decline.

Some are enjoying staying at home, decorating, D.I.Y, clearing storage,

Others feel glum, faced with isolation and a toilet roll shortage,

Many face job losses or being under extended furlough,

Parents struggle to work from home, entertain kids by for the window painting a rainbow.

As we listen to the news and Queen's speech and remain confined,

One thing's for sure, our nation and generation's true colours will be defined.
