Healing
So basically, I was rewatching that one Steven Universe episode where he temporarily heals Centi, and I was like "huh, it'd probably be pretty cute if this happened with Dust and Blue, and then my brain did the thing and here we are.
I do admit that the writing itself isn't super created, as I wanted to follow the dialogue closely by just changing it up a bit, but I hope you enjoy despite that.

"Here you go Toby! This should make you feel better."
Blue had made tacos again. It had been a while, after some notable failures with either making the shelled food or getting his friends to actually eat them, but upon waking up this morning he had been overcome with a sudden sense of confidence. Thus, he once more tried his hands in cooking some tacos for Toby to enjoy. After all, the injured stray would have no qualms with his cooking.
The aforementioned Toby gave a brief excited yip as Blue knelt down and set the plate of three tacos before the little white dog, a clink sounding as the porcelain met the wood of the porch. Blue smiled warmly as he watched the dog dig in with no further hesitation, the crunch of corn shells permeating the air.
The little dog had appeared around the house about a month ago. Blue had been unsuccessful in finding its owner, so the dog had remained with them. It came and went as it pleased, preferring to stay outside in the snow.
It was not super surprising when it one day returned with a limp, having scraped up its left foreleg. Nobody really knew what the dog got up to, so they weren't sure how it got injured in the first place. For Blue, the how didn't matter, as he was much more concerned with making sure the fluffy pup made a full recovery. So, since then he had been making meals especially for the dog instead of giving it leftovers, overseeing it's injury to make sure it healed well, and his work had paid off. The dog was well on its way to getting back to normal.
Blue smiled at the thought of the little dog running around excitedly as it used to, barking happily. That was the end goal.
He had zoned out a bit, only realizing this when he felt something small and wet drag across his cheek. With a small exclamation of confusion, he blinked back to reality to see Toby licking his face.
"Mweh heh heh! Toby, cut that out! You're going to make me all slobbery!" He giggled, gently grabbing the excited dog around the middle and lifting him up before him.
"Now, how did you even jump up...there."
His question of mock scrutiny drifted into silence as he looked at the dog's injured leg, or rather what used to be an injured leg.
The small scabbed scrape was gone, and all that was left to see was pristine white fur. Blue gasped when he noticed a few faint baby blue shimmers in the air, a visual effect of a magical power he knew all too well. Looking over, he saw the same sparkles around the few small pieces of taco left on the plate.
Gently placing Toby down while completely forgetting to collect the empty plate, Blue rushed back into his house.
"Guys guys! Look what I can do!" He yelled excitedly, running up to his teammates, Ink and Dream, who both looked up.
"What's up Blue?" Dream asked, looking up to see the short skeleton skid into the kitchen.
Both had been relaxing in the kitchen, Ink leaning against the counter absentmindedly flipping a small paintbrush between his fingers while Dream munched on a rosy red apple beside him.
Blue ran up to Ink, snatching the paintbrush from him with no further explanation. He then proceeded to grab onto both ends of the wooden shaft before snapping it over his knee and letting the pieces fall to the floor.
"Blue, what is the meaning of this?" Dream half exclaimed, a confused and mildly alarmed expression washing over his face.
Ink merely raised a bony eyebrow, not commenting on his friend's sudden action.
Blue giggled, the expressions of his teammates being totally worth keeping them in the dark for a few moments. However, knowing that Dream might want to check his soul and aura if he were to not reveal his intentions soon, he went to finally tell them the news.
"My healing powers are back! I fed my sansational tacos to Toby and then he jumped into my lap with his leg all healed! Look, I can show you." He grinned widely, reaching for the pieces of the discarded paintbrush.
"Hold on, don't do that! I believe you, so you don't have to show us. Just don't try to hug that or whatever. You might get splinters." Dream warned, grabbing Blue's hand and pushing it away from the broken tool before summoning his golden, apple-shaped soul and pulling out a dustpan and brush.
"But I have gloves…" Blue replied, only earning him a disagreeable head shake as Dream swept up all the pieces and went to tip them into a nearby trash bin.
While the golden-clad skeleton was disposing of the brush, Blue placed a gloves hand to his chin, allowing his thoughts to wander to all the possibilities now open to him with his power back. While it did have it's limits, this power had been a great asset to him and his friends in the past. It allowed him to turn sentiments of care, affection, and love into a force that can heal nearly every injury or damage. Any action he put thought into could be used to transfer this energy, such as giving a little white dog a specially prepared taco.
Assessing the possibilities, he couldn't help but remember the mental image of a particular corrupted soul. It belonged to a rather special amalgam and someone he especially wanted to try and save.
"Well, now that my healing powers are back, maybe I can-."
"Nope, not going to happen." The voice of Ink, leader of the team cut him off.
"What? But I didn't even say anything...yet." Blue replied, looking up at the colorful skeleton, who was now standing up straight.
"There's no need to finish that thought with my future-seeing ability. I know that you're going to ask if you can try to heal one of the amalgamations in the doodlesphere. And it's a no." Ink said, crossing his arms.
"Well...do you see a possibility of me getting you to change your mind?" Blue asked, looking to the side while tapping his gloves pointer fingers together.
Ink said nothing, keeping his gaze resting on the smaller.
Blue looked back up at him, his baby blue eyelights big and wavering as he clasped his hands together, presenting Ink with a cute little smile.
Ink narrowed his eyes, pursing his lips in an attempt to stand firm. However, the more he put effort into maintaining the stiff facade, the more he felt his resolve splintering before the undeniable cuteness that Blue wielded as a weapon.
The two remained in a stalemate for a moment more before Ink groaned in defeat, uncrossing his arms and pulling his brush off of his back, marking a streak of black paint on the floor.
~★~
The three soon found themselves in the midst of the doodlesphere, nicknamed by Ink because of the fact that he spent a lot of time drawing there in the peace that it provided. It was a seemingly endless space full of warm yellow light, the air filled with pieces of floating papers that glowed faintly white.
The small party walked past these glowing papers to a section of the space somewhat separated from the rest. Here, floating in a more compressed and less organized manner were a multitude of papers that did not hold the same faint illumination of the others. On the surface of each page was the drawn picture of a soul, however it was easy to tell simply by looking at the inverted hearts that something wasn't quite right with them.
Once reaching the space, Blue quickly separated from the other two, beginning to look between the papers in search of something specific. Meanwhile, Ink and Dream watched from the edge of the paper field, Ink's expression neutral while Dream's held faint concern.
"So, why exactly did you agree to this?" He asked, looking to the side at Ink.
"...I lost a battle of will." He replied, continuing to watch the armored skeleton.
Dream cocked an eyebrow at this statement but didn't comment further, facing forward to once more watch Blue.
"Hmm...no, nope, uh...oh! Here it is!" Blue exclaimed, pointing up at one of the papers before jumping up and loosely cupping his hands around it.
Despite not making contact with its surface, the paper remained between his gloved hands as he fell back down to the ground.
"That's…" Dream began.
"It's Dust. If I'm going to be able to help these amalgams, I want to try and help him first." Blue said, smiling down at the paper in a bittersweet manner.
He began to make his way over before Dream met him halfway.
"Hold on, don't forget these." Dream said, his soul once more being summoned at he pulled out his staff, which glowed and melded into his secondary weapon, a bow.
He aimed up, firing a glowing blue arrow, a string of the same blue energy trailing behind it like the tail of a comet. Blue watched as the arrow arched through the air before sinking into a bag of tortilla chips, which had been floating amongst the other papers.
Dream dispelled his bow before grabbing the thin string of magic and giving it a good pull, reeling in the bag of chips.
"Right, Chippies. Dust's favorite. Thanks Dream." Blue said.
Dream returned to take his place beside Ink while Blue walked out of the field of papers to an empty space.
"Ok, are you ready?" Blue asked, looking up with a determined expression.
Both Ink and Dream nodded in unicine, Ink once more pulling his paintbrush off of his back while Dream summoned his staff from his soul.
"Right." Blue nodded, looking down at the paper in his hands.
"Here goes."
He placed the paper face up on the ground. The energy that filled the doodlesphere with a gentle buzz seemed to leave the paper, the white complection dulling the slightest bit. After a moment, the paper seemed to shiver and glitch, the picture of the soul beginning to move on its two-dimensional plane before it fazed through the face of the paper into the 3-D world.
A red aura surrounded the purple tinted soul, the inverted heart floating just above the paper for a second before it's magic sparked to life. Before their eyes, a translucent purple mass began to surround the soul, quickly taking the shape of the huge skeletal beast that the team had fought before. It opened it's still forming dragon-like mouth and let forth an earth-shaking roar before bowing over on its front legs.
"Blue, do it now!" Dream cried, pointing the star shaped tip of his staff at the forming amalgam.
Without further hesitation, Blue opened his arms and jumped forward, latching on to the beasts neck in a hug. As he did so, he scrunched his eyes shut, concentrating on his desire to help the amalgam.
With a burst of light, Blue was thrown backwards as Dream and Ink partially shielded their vision. They looked on as the flash abated, watching as the corrupted soul within the light glowed a brighter purple, the red aura partially abating. All couldn't help but gasp as the still translucent form of the amalgam suddenly changed and shrank, clawed limbs giving way to what looked like arms and legs as the tail and head shrank.
"Did you do it?" Dream wondered out loud, as the glow finally abated, the amalgam's form solidifying.
The being now looked much more normal. It was down on its hands and knees, back facing the company. All watched with bated breath as the creature suddenly looked around before standing up and letting out a half growl, half snarl as an exclamation.
With it facing them, all could see what form the amalgam had taken. It was now bipedal, closely resembling a skeleton monster that stood taller than Ink. It had managed to form clothing, as it stood there in a pair of black white-striped shorts, though several inches had been torn from the right pant leg. It also wore a grey speckled shirt under an open dark blue hoodie, though the fabric of the left sleeved was badly ripped over the shoulder, allowing the white shirt to poke through the opening.
It still retained lesser versions of several previously possessed featured. It's feet, which had nothing covering them, still closely resembled the clawed talons it used to have, and it's fingertips were sharp claws. It also retained a shorter tail that tapered to a tip about a foot from the ground. Most notably, it's head, while looking a lot more like that of a normal skeleton, still appeared quite dragon-like. It had a shorter version of it's fanged snout, though the mandible was now one whole piece rather than being split down the middle. It still had noticeably shorter versions of the crown of horns and multiple spikes, though they couldn't easily be seen under the hood the amalgam had up. It's eyelights were still oval shaped, though a lot less slit like than before, the right one being a small red oval while the left was a blue oval of the same size with a crimson ring surrounding it.
The team was silent for a moment, taking in the unorthodox change, before Blue suddenly threw his hands up into the air.
"It worked!" He exclaimed excitedly, his eyelights morphing into stars.
Ink and Dream simply looked at him, not saying anything, however their expressions spoke volumes.
Blue did not seem the least bit discouraged as he grabbed the Chippies bag from a still shocked Dream before walking over to Dust.
"Blue, wait." Dream called, but this didn't stop the armored skeleton in the least.
Dust fell backwards to the ground as Blue approached, opening his mouth in a short roar once Blue came within a few feet of him. Blue paused, his expression becoming mixed with concern as he took a step back from the agitated amalgam.
"Hey, what's wrong? Don't you want to have these Chippies?" He asked, holding up the bag and crinkling the plastic material slightly in hopes of intincing the amalgam.
However, this didn't seem to work, as Dust began to unleash a mix of seemingly angry growls at him, almost sounding as if he were talking in some strange language.
"Uh, I don't think he remembers." Dream spoke up, looking worried at Blue's close proximity to the amalgam.
"Oh, well then forget the Chippies." He said with a small smile, lightly tossing then up into the air.
The energy of the space grabbed hold of the bag, allowing it to resume floating in suspension.
"They don't matter, because you remember me, don't you?"
Dust clicked his jaw, tilting his head to the side with a confused expression. Blue frowned at the response.
"I don't think this worked how I wanted it to work." Blue said, looking back at his friends with an expression that beseeched their help.
"Possibly not…" Dream replied.
Blue thought for a moment before slowly walking right up to Dust, who no longer seemed as agitated but more confused.
"Wait, don't go closer!" Dream called worriedly to him.
"Maybe he just needs a bit more love?" Blue questioned.
Once again ignored the golden skeleton, Blue leaned over and planted a brief kiss on Dust's cheek. A light purple tint appeared on Dust's face as his cheek sparkled, and with a confused and surprised growl he stood and backed away from Blue, rubbing his cheek in a cross manner. Once the brief shimmers disappeared, Dust fixed Blue with a glare before growling indignantly at him, narrowing his eyes.
"Ah, oops, sorry, mweh heh...he." Blue apologized sheepishly.
"Well, I have to admit this is the best we've seen any amalgam heal." Ink said, analyzing the situation.
"But it didn't work well enough. It's still amalgamated… I guess we'll need something more to heal DT poisoning from the humans." Dream replied with a sad sigh.
"Why thought? My healing powers are finally back, and I've improved so much at using my magic. This should have worked!" Blue piped up, casting a sad glance at Dust.
"It's not your fault Blue. You have to remember that he's not injured, but rather corrupted, and that difference is very hard to explain." Dream said as Ink tapped a finger on his chin.
"It's like...if Toby didn't injure his leg, but instead he injured his mind." Ink spoke up after a pause, a look of understanding dawning on Blue's face as a consequence.
"Oh, well that does sound like a good explanation."
"Blue." Ink said, getting both his and Dream's attention.
"I'm very impressed with how far you healed the amalgam, but we must let him rest again. Until we find a way for these monsters to revert back to how they were, we have to keep them safe within the pages. Dream, if you would."
"Ah, right…" Dream said, stepping forward and changing his still summoned staff once more into a bow, drawing back the string to make a blue arrow spark into being.
Dust wasn't paying attention, and didn't notice the danger he was suddenly in. He was too captivated by his new form, currently preoccupied with examining his skeletal hands. Blue, on the other hand, was quick to react.
"Wait, he's not a monster anymore! We don't have to capture him!" He exclaimed, eliciting an unsure frown from Dream.
"You don't have to watch Blue." Ink said in a softer tone, pulling the smaller into his chest in a hug so that Blue was no longer facing the amalgam.
"No, wait!" Blue said, pushing away from Ink and running between Dream and Dust.
He spread his arms to the sides in an attempt to shield the oblivious amalgam, a mixture of resolve and sadness washing over his features.
"Look, he can walk, talk, and do other stuff just like you both can. He's not like before." Blue said with a smile.
Dust looked up upon hearing Blue's voice much closer to himself, letting out a sort of mix between a growl and a chirp, honestly sounding pretty pleased with his discovery of his new self. His gaze was on Blue, his happy expression directed at the smaller, which both Dream and Ink picked up on.
Blue looked over his shoulder at the noise, his smile widening at the sight of Dust looking happily at him.
"See? I helped him this far, so maybe with a bit more time I can help him even more. There's no reason why I can't try!"
Ink and Dream looked at each other, their expressions wavering.
"C'mon, pleeeeeeeeaaaaaase?" Blue asked, putting on his best puppy dog face.
Ink and Dream paused before both sighed and gave in, though both smiling whilst doing so. Ink replaced his brush on his back while Dream de-summoned his bow.
"Well, we have to figure out what to do with him. What's he even going to do, move in with us?" Dream pondered.
"Yeah, he can stay in my room! That way I'll be able to watch over him and stuff." Blue chirped, smiling at the idea.
"Is this really happening right now?" Dream asked, looking up at Ink for help.
"Well I can't say no to that face, and you can't either, so apparently so." Ink replied with a slight shake of his head, the logistics of this new arrangement not clicking well at all.
He turned to Blue and Dust.
"He can stay out of the doodlesphere as long as you watch over him. You have to understand though that with our current abilities, some monsters are beyond our aid."
~★~
Back in Blue's house, Dust was sat on the couch in the open living room. He was busy taking in everything, cocking his head this way and that while growling to himself every so often. His expression was neutral as he focused on breaking down all the information he was receiving.
"Alright Dust, let's do this." Blue spoke up, entering the room from the kitchen with a bag of Chips in hand. He placed them on the other side of the green sofa before a pensive expression passed across his face.
"Huh, wait, that's probably not your name. What do you normally go by?" He asked Dust.
Dust replied with a short string of growls and half-chirps, blinking expectantly at Blue.
"Growl chirp growl. Right, you can't tell me because you still can't talk. Hmm…" Blue sighed, Dust going back to looking around.
"So, you really don't remember anything? You don't remember me, or all the stuff we did before? We were best buds. We spent a lot of time together while adventuring. Does any of that sound familiar to you?"
Dust just cocked his head to the side, mimicking what he did before in the doodlesphere. His confused expression told Blue enough.
"Guess not. You don't even remember your favorite snack…" Blue said sadly, grabbing the bag and pulling it open.
The sharp noise instantly grabbed Dust's attention. He sniffed the air, his mouth opening when he caught the intincing smell of the potato chips. A sudden familiar feeling overcame him, and he found himself licking his lips with his purple tongue expectantly.
Blue hadn't noticed Dust's sudden change in behavior, as he was still looking down into the bag forlornly. Out of habit, he began to mumble the jingle to himself, grabbing a chip from the bag.
"Chippies are the best."
"Gra rra rura." Dust half hummed in time with the second line of the ditty, clicking his teeth between each "word".
The sounds felt so familiar to him, and his tail began to flick excitedly. Meanwhile, Blue gasped in exclamation, nearly not believing what he had just heard as he yanked his gaze from the bag to stare wide-eyed at Dust.
"Do you...do you remember the Chippies song?" Blue asked, fishing another chip out of the bag and holding it out to Dust.
Dust leaned forward a bit, hesitantly plucking the snack from Blue's gloved fingers before holding it in front of him to inspect. He sniffed it carefully, mulling over it's salty and still very intincing smell. Curiously, he felt his mouth water in response the the aroma. Having no reason to deny the urge any longer, he quickly tossed the chip into the air and snapped it up, growling in a pleased manner as he crunched down on the tasty chip.
Looking back up at the still surprised skeleton, he chirped at Blue. The armored skeleton grinned widely in response.
"Chippies are the best." He sang again, this time more excitedly.
"They beat all the rest." He continued, Dust chiming in with his own vocalizations.
"They're my favorite snack!" They both finished, Blue grinning at the amalgam while he grinned toothily back.
Blue held out the Chippies bag to Dust, who upon seeing them this time grabbed the bag before popping a handful into his open mouth with no hesitation.
"You didn't forget everything. Your memories are still intact. I just need to help you recover them!" Blue exclaimed with happy excitement to Dust, who wasn't really paying attention as he shoved his entire snout into the bag to munch on more chips at a time.
"Hold on, wait right there. Even though you can't talk, I have an idea of how we can communicate with each other." Blue said, jumping up from the sofa and running up the stairs energetically.
In mere moments he came trampling back down, multiple items held in his arms as he returned to the sofa. Opting to sit on the other side of the green couch and lean against the armrest to face Dust, he plopped a thick stack of normal paper along with a standard box of crayons between them.
Dust eyed the papers, a small growl escaping his mouth at the crumpling sound they made when they hit the soft, bouncy surface of the sofa. Blue grabbed his favorite colored crayon from the box, which coincidentally happened to be the light blue color of the set, capturing Dust's attention.
"This is a crayon. Not sure if you remember these or not, but you can use them to draw and write on stuff like this paper." Blue explained, putting the tip of the crayon against the top piece of paper before writing his name is big letters.
He then grabbed the paper and held it up for Dust to see.
"See? B-L-U-E. Blue. That's me. Can you write like that?"
Dust nodded his head with a chirp, grabbing the purple crayon from the box before putting it's tip to the next sheet of paper.
"How the Underground produced such a brilliant mind is beyond even me." Blue said proudly to himself, closing his eyes with a grin for a brief moment.
The slight scraping sounds of crayon on paper filled the space between them for a pause before Dust held up his paper like Blue, accompanying the motion with a proud sounding growl. Blue only blinked in response, frowning at what Dust had written. It certainly wasn't English, the assumed-to-be word being composed of several strange symbols: a thumbs down symbol, a shaded diamond, a small shaded rhombus, and a larger shaded rhombus.
"Okay, never mind." Blue said, not knowing what to make of the symbols.
Dust frowned at him, seeming unimpressed, if not a bit discouraged.
"Hey, don't worry. We can just talk using drawings!" Blue smiled, quickly drawing a simple picture of himself on the next sheet of paper before holding it up for Dust to see.
Dust leaned forward, gently taking the paper from Blue's hands and staring at it for a moment. Then, without a word he placed it back on the stack and drew something on it with his purple crayon. Finishing quickly, he held it back up for Blue to see, revealing that he had added a drawing of himself alongside that of Blue's.
The drawing was quite crude, only possessing minimum details captured with shaky lines, but it meant everything the Blue. Curiously, the picture showed a fully normal skeleton, leading him to believe that Dust had drawn himself as he once was. His smile widened upon seeing that Dust had drawn himself holding Blue's hand. A warm feeling sparked within his soul at the thought of the amalgam thinking of him in some way more than a stranger.
"Aw, do you remember that we were friends?" He asked.
Dust chirped in response, the noise almost sounding like an affirmation.
Blue paused, tapping a gloved finger on the plush green fabric beside him as he took a moment to think. Now that he had somewhat solved the communication problem between them, what should he ask Dust? What did the amalgam know? What would he remember?
Blue hummed contemplatively, trying to decide what the most important thing to ask would be. Suddenly, realization practically hit him in the face, causing him to suddenly look up and click his fingers.
"Dust, so you remember anything from when you were like this?" Blue asked, pointing to the drawing Dust had made of himself.
Dust knit his eyebrows together, frowning in thought as he looked down at the couch absentmindedly. A soft rumbling noise rolled from his throat as his oval-shaped eyelights flickered around a bit, as if he thought he might somehow catch a glimpse of the answer he appeared to be looking for. Suddenly, he blinked, his eyelights becoming slightly hazy and unfocused, apparent to any onlooker that he was no longer seeing through them, but rather turning his attention to his mind's eye.
His sockets widened as he clicked his jaw and refocused on the topmost sheet of the unused paper. Leaning over, he scribbled something down before turning it around and pushing it towards Blue.
Blue obligingly looked down at the paper, seeing that Dust had drawn another picture of himself, but this time he had drawn what looked like a forest of sorts behind him. The trees were erect and leafless, bearing short stiff branches that were spaced evenly up the trunk. They vaguely reminded Blue of Snowdin Forest.
"It's you in some kind of forest? Is that where you lived?" He wondered out loud.
Dust grabbed the paper again and turned it back around, pressing the purple crayon down as he added to the drawing.
"What are you adding now?" Blue asked, leaning forward a bit.
Dust didn't reply. Once again, when he was finished, he showed it to Blue. This time, he had added a taller looking skeleton standing beside him. The taller skeleton seemed to be smiling, and his stance held a hint of flair.
"He looks a bit like you. Is that your brother?"
Dust looked up, making another growling chirp noise as he stared at Blue.
"So you have a brother like me? That's super cool!" Blue said, smiling excitedly as Dust bared his teeth in the parody of a grin.
"Did he want to be part of the royal guard like me?" Blue asked, taking out a handkerchief with the delta rune on it from his pocket.
Dust tilted his head, blinking at the symbol with a confused expression.
"Right. You might not remember that far back. The humans don't use that symbol for their so called 'amalgam army'. You guys have a symbol like this."
Blue brought his hands together before his chest, attempting to curl his fingers into a heart. However, monsters normally emoted with an upside-down heart, a symbol of their inverted soul shape. He only managed to create a vague heart shape, his unpracticed gesture a far cry from the smooth and polished movement he had seen the amalgams use to salute to each other. They seemed to be ingrained with the simple action, along with the undying urge to lash out at anything that moved.
"Hmm...It looked so easy when they did it…"
Dust blinked, and without thinking he habitually brought his hands up to smoothly form the heart salute, catching Blue's attention.
"Oh! Yeah, just like that." He exclaimed.
Dust looked down at his own hands, deforming and reforming the symbol before looking back up and letting out a rumbling hiss. His eyelights then momentarily flicked to the side, going slightly cloudy again before Dust seized another paper and began to draw, growling quietly to himself. Blue watched as he drew, quickly making out different components of the picture as they were drawn.
Dust.
"That's you."
Another, human-looking person standing before him.
"You're listening to someone. A human?"
Dust drew their twig-like arms pointing in the direction behind his drawn self.
"They told you to go somewhere."
Dust grabbed another piece of paper, quickly scribbling another image of himself of the blank surface.
"You."
He once again drew the taller skeleton, standing beside himself.
"Your brother."
Dust scribbled for a while, adding a crudely drawn crowd of other miscellaneous monsters. Some did look somewhat familiar to Blue.
"Oh wow, lots of monsters."
A jagged line followed next, arching over all the monsters. Blue easily recognized it for what it was.
"You got trapped under a mountain."
Dust grabbed another page, drawing a simple landscape. The rounded peak of a gently sloping mountain was easily discernible amongst the trees.
"Mount Ebott." Blue said softly.
Dust grabbed another sheet of paper, drawing another side view of the mountain before adding several connected ovals, which Blue assumed to be the different caverns under the mountain. Dust then added the monsters, each cavern holding some individuals, before he drew in some miniature houses, along with other buildings.
"You separated, and then you began building homes. Then..."
Dust picked up a red crayon, placing the tip at the far end of the ruins, near the base of the mountain, before drawing a figure he knew all too well. A figure wearing a striped shirt with a short knife grasped in their palm and a sinister smile on their face.
"A genocide route." Blue whispered with a sharp intake of breath.
Dust quickly scribbled several figures down on a new sheet of paper before turning it to Blue. The shorter forcefully wrenched his gaze from the red figure to the new drawing to see that the paper was filled with monsters, most he now recognized.
Dust once again raised the red crayon, hovering the tip above a group of froggits before he abruptly slashed the point across the paper, leaving a sharp red mark over the group.
He continued to cross out more monsters, starting from those who Blue knew would have lived in the ruins to those who inhabited New Home. Dust growled lowly with each and every mark he made. Blue took notice of how Dust hesitated for a mere moment longer once the crayon hovered over the image of his brother. His hand had shook ever so slightly as he had drawn a red slash across his neck, the drawing's face still beaming with a warm smile.
Blue kept his eyes trained on the paper, the new information washing over him and making his thoughts freeze. He only looked up once movement in the corner of his socket caught his eye.
Dust now held up yet another paper, this one depicting him and a few other monsters.
"You stayed alive."
Dust gripped onto the paper, tearing it in two. One piece, containing the drawings of the other monsters, was discarded. It dropped to the sofa, landing face down.
"You were amongst the only ones left."
Dust picked up another paper.
"But the human wasn't done."
Dust drew another pointing figure, this time being the familiar figure of Asgore, pointing to what looked to be the Castle in the distance.
"Emergency order from the King. To evacuate to the castle."
Another paper was taken. It showed Dust standing alone in a familiar setting. Judgement Hall.
"Everyone's gone. You know the human is coming, but when? You don't know. Your friends are gone. Your brother is gone."
Another paper.
"You looked up. You had heard something from the mouth of the hall. A figure? The human?"
Suddenly Dust raised the red crayon for the final time, scratching a large red slash across his drawing's chest.
"Then…"
The noise of something pattering on the paper shook Blue from the almost trance-like state he had entered while narrating Dust's final drawings. He blinked, finally looking instead of simply staring at the paper to see wet circles staining the waxy sheet.
Blue looked up to see that Dust was crying. Purple-tinted tears welled up from his sockets and ran down his face, falling onto the drawings that now littered the couch. Keening whimpers escaped his throat as he visibly shuddered. Blue watched, somewhat dumbfounded, the purple crayon that Dust held suddenly snapped, put under too much strain within his badly-shaking grip.
"Dust…" Blue whispered, partially reaching out a hand towards the distraught amalgam.
He looked back down, eyelights catching on the last image of Dust being brutally cut down.
"Where did that attack come from..?" He asked, an answer already forming in his mind.
Dust looked down with his hazy vision before grabbing another paper, taking hold of a black crayon before roughly scratching a symbol into the sheet. Once finished, he pushed it before Blue for him to see.
It was a simple picture, depicting an arrangement of six souls.
"DT poisoning from the fallen humans." Blue quietly gasped.
A strangled hiss came from Dust, causing Blue to look up and see the amalgam with his hand over his snout. Suddenly, Dust jerked his head to the side, his mouth snapping open as he coughed. Blue watched as a small globule of familiar purple acid splattered into the carpeted floor of the living room, immediately beginning to eat away at the soft fabric.
"Oh my goodness! Are you alright?!" Blue exclaimed worriedly, jumping up from the couch as Dust tried to stand up, only to fall down beside the piece of furniture.
Dust called out as his form momentarily glowed purple, his legs fizzling and glitching for a second before they morphed and bent into a more animalistic shape.
"You're...changing back."
Dust fell to the side, growling before he shakily tried to push himself back up. He looked up at Blue, a spark of fear in his mismatched eyelights.
"Hold on, let me heal you again." Blue said with what conviction he could muster, kneeling down to envelop the amalgam in a half-hug.
Dust scrunched his eyes shut as the same shimmers sparkled around him momentarily. Blue released him, allowing Dust to sit up as his form lit back up. His legs glitched again, but did not revert back to normal, instead stubbornly remaining the same as Dust's form resettled.
"No no no! Why isn't it working?! How can I help you?!" Blue cried, looking down desperately at his gloved hands.
Dust straightened up enough to see onto the surface of the couch. He hastily reached over and grabbed the drawing of the six souls, holding it before him while he growled urgently to Blue.
"I...I don't understand!" Blue said, looking up.
Dust hissed at him, clearly frustrated as he slammed the drawing to the ground. He pushed himself up, stumbling over to an empty part of the room before holding out his hand in the air. He looked desperately from side to side, waving his hands in the air and clicking his fingers desperately, just like Blue remembered doing when he had first been learning to use portals.
"You can't open portals because your corrupted. Where do you want to go?"
Blue reached over to the sofa, snatching a few of Dust's drawings before shuffling through them.
"Judgement Hall? The Underground?" Blue asked frantically, holding up the corresponding drawings.
Dust growled at the mention of the latter option, looking back at Blue with an expression of pure desperation on his face.
"But which one? Undertale? Underswap?..Dreamtale?"
Dust released another a keening noise along with Blue's last option, falling to his knees and banging his fists on the floor, tears running quickly down his face.
"Hold on Dust." Blue spoke, running over to the agitated amalgam before offering Dust his hand.
"We'll get there."

Within the vast wasteland of Dreamtale, a simple blue portal opened up. Dust screeched at the sight, quickly running through the portal and off into the wasteland, Blue running after him and calling for him to hold.
Dust opened his mouth wide and roared repeatedly, calling out in several directions in the apparent desire for someone to respond. His calls got longer and more desperate as he clutched his head, screeching before falling to the ground.
From his position several meters behind, Blue could see Dust's body glow purple before his form stretched and elongated.
The glowing soon stopped, leaving Dust more like his full amalgam form. His body was overall larger and more feral in appearance. His tail was noticeably longer and his snout had become more defined. The existing spikes on his body sharpened as new smaller ones grew out of his back, tearing through the fabric of his shirt and hoodie to have their white tips exposed.
"Oh no…" Blue worried, pushing himself to run faster as he caught up to Dust.
"Dust where are you trying to go!?" Blue cried out as he skidded beside Dust, who picked himself up from the ground and charged forwards without a reply.
The pair reached an area of the corrupted land that held a forest of still-standing trees. The once mighty plants now appeared as blackened husks, mostly devoid of life with coal black bark and a few ashy leaves. Dust charged into the trees with no hesitation, Blue doing his best to keep up as the amalgam dashed between the twisted trunks.
As they ran, Blue noticed the trees beginning to thicken, clustering tighter and tighter together. Yet Dust did not slow, instead using his claws and teeth to bite away or cut down whatever came in his way. Through what little gaps that remained, Blue could make out something in the near distance that they were approaching.
The closer they got, the more obstructions appeared to bar their path. Dust hissed as he found himself having to slow down as to not accidentally spear himself on a rouge branch. Blue noticed this, sprinting up to be level with Dust and he gripped onto any branches the amalgam initially missed, snapping them off trees in the way and throwing them to the side.
"Blueberry Sans at your demands!"
However it was not enough, for as they reached the tightest few rings of trees, Dust one more found himself hunching over as his form glowed purple, reverting back to it fully amalgamated form.
Dust shakily stood, now on all fours, as he tried to press on, but he found that he was now too big to fit between the encroaching trees.
With a roar, he threw himself against the dull bark, sliding to the ground with only a dent left in the trees. Dust continued to ram himself against the trees, a long almost pleading cry escaping him as he scratched and bit the unwavering wooden wall.
Blue stopped near him, quickly looking around before he spotted a larger gap in the circle. Getting Dust's attention with a loud call, he ran forward to lead the amalgam. They weaved through a few more trees before Blue burst into a huge clearing, Dust following not a second after.
The amalgam dug in his claws and came to a stop, joining Blue as they both paused to take in the huge mansion that was erected at the center of the space. Dark stone stood crawling with ivy and moss, near-black wooden accents partially rotted yet still somewhat sturdy. Though dirty and decrepit, the hidden mansion demanded a sort of respect from those who looked upon it.
More cautiously now, Dust padded forward to the massive oak doors, Blue at his heels. The amalgam shoved his shoulder against the wood, a loud series of creaks emitting from the doors as they were pushed inwards.
Both walked in to be met with a grand hall, which would have looked quite austere in the past, but now was dark and full of cobwebs. Across the hall sat a group of other skeletal amalgams, to Blue's surprise.
"Other amalgams?" He wondered out loud, stopping to watch.
Dust practically galloped over at the sight of them, one of the other amalgams, with black streams of liquid that dripped from his eyes, turned to see what was causing the sudden noise. A sort of call came from it as it jumped up and ran to meet Dust, both beginning to growl at each other in a way that was not at all hostile but more friendly.
All the other amalgams had noticed Dust's appearance by now, another one with a hole in it's head and one singular large, red eyelight following the suit of the first as slowly padded over to Dust and joined the apparent conversation.
Two other amalgams, one bearing heterochromatic eyelights along with a jagged red scar beneath it's right socket, and the other dark-boned with electric blue markings stretching from beneath its eyes like tear marks, neglected to get up, while a third and final stood but did not approach. It seemed to be the leader, being larger than the rest with an expression of authority on its face. It's body was covered in some black slimy substance that shined a dull blue when caught in the light, and unlike the others it possessed five tails, all raised and twitching occasionally.
"Well this is quite interesting. I wonder if I could mimic their speech?" A familiar voice sounded beside Blue as Dream came into sight.
Blue looked back to see the figure of Ink approaching, his mismatched pupils fixed on the group of amalgams. Blue wasn't overly surprised to see them, as he knew well by now that the pair were keenly aware of what multiversal activity happened around them.
"I guess you were right. I couldn't heal Dust." Blue sighed, rubbing his arm.
"Don't be so sure. You brought Dust back to his home. You brought him back to his team. All had stayed together in the past, their universes no longer fit to reside in. They didn't want to leave him alone, and so they've been waiting here for him to return." Ink said.
Blue glanced fondly at the chattering amalgams before blinking in confusion, looking questioningly as his friends.
"Hold on...How did you know that?"
"Simple; he told us." Ink said, holding up the stack of papers used by Dust and himself.
Blue reached out, Ink placing the papers within his hands so that he could leaf through them.
"So you looked at the drawings?" Blue asked questioningly, still not seeing how they could have revealed Dust's apparent team, as he hadn't mentioned them.
"His writing." Ink replied.
"It's actually pretty legible, as far as Wingdings goes." Dream elaborated, pointing to a few of the individual symbols.
Blue studied the strange font carefully before heavy steps approaching grabbed the attention of all three skeletons. They looked up to see Dust walking over. He went up to Blue, leaning down to nuzzle Blue's side with his head affectionately, closing his eyes. Blue promptly turned and wrapped his arms as far around Dust's snout as they could go in a hug, both smiling in their own way as Dust made a sort of purring noise.
A commanding growl echoed around the large chamber as all four turned to see the alpha looking pointedly as Dust. The amalgam replied with a short bark before nuzzling Blue one last time and straightening up.
"Innnnnnk, can Dust stay here with the other amalgams? He looks so happy." Blue asked, breaking out his cutest expression while clasping his hands together. To add on to the display, Dust once again lowered his head and opened his mouth slightly, his purple tongue lolling out like a dog.
"You can put that cute look back on the shelf. It's easy to see that this is his paper now." Ink said with a slight chuckle at the two.
"Yes!" Blue cried, jumping up.
The celebration was cut short by another call from the alpha, this one seeming more impatient if possible.
Dust straightened up for the second time before looking down at Blue, his mouth opening ever so slightly into another one of his toothy smiles.
"I'm going to miss you Dust. I'll promise I'll visit." Blue smiled, waving up at the large beast.
Dust growled something that Blue somehow knew was some sort of pleasant parting before Dust turned and rejoined the now complete pack. All turned and began walking to the back of the hall, where the entrance to a shaded hallway was. Dust looked back once more before all walked into the shadows, heading deeper into the mansion.
The three watched until the tip of Dust's tail disappeared into the dark before they silently turned and walked back out of the large building, all three working together to shut the heavy doors. They continued to the treeline, where both Dream and Blue waited as Ink made a portal.
"Hey Dream?" Blue suddenly asked, the golden-clad skeleton turning his head to look at Blue.
"Yeah?"
"Do you think you could teach me how to write in Wingdings?"
Dream smiled
"Yeah, I do believe I can."
And with that, all three walked onto the large smear of paint that marred the grass, quickly disappearing into the colorful subtrance and leaving only the remnants of the portal as any evidence they were there.

I'm hoping to do more smaller oneshots like this, since they're pretty easy and quick to write but I can still get cool ideas and details in. I have a lot of ideas that I might have like to turn into full books but that would take forever and by the time I actually got writing them I'd probably have forgotten half of the details, so I think small groups of oneshots works much better.
Who would like to see more Blueberry Universe?
