Escape To Amphibia

Today is hopefully the day. Terri did some research and found a way to build a portal back to Amphibia. Hop Pop was snacking on some toast before the portal test. "Oh, gotta love this avocado roast." Hop Pop said. "It's avocado toast, dude." Anne corrected. "In Amphibia, the avocados are covered with poison barbs that cause blindness." Hop Pop explains. "But here, they're just creamy and delicious." "How's the portal going, Terri?" Sprig asked. "Pretty good. Come over here." Terri replied. "When you told me about the Calamity Box, I wondered, "Why a music box?" Then it hit me. The musical notes function as coordinates. There are countless worlds in the multiverse, infinite possibilities. And those ancient newts discovered a way to pinpoint worlds, with music." All of us clapped for Terri and her theory. "Now, the million dollar question. Does anyone remember a song playing when they were in a portal between here and Amphibia?" Terri asked as we were all humming a tune at the same time. "One at a time, please." "I think it was..." I started, humming the chords that repeated in my head for a while. Terri begins to play the hummed tune on her keyboard. "Fingers crossed, everyone." Terri said, opening a tiny portal. "It's working." Hop Pop gasped. "That's as big as I can make it. Do you see anything?" Terri asked. As we all looked through the tiny portal, we saw a giant mantis preying on a dead rat. "Ew, gross!" Anne groaned, very disgusted. "Yay!" Sprig cheered. "That's home, alright." Hop Pop said. "Wonder if the mantis can smell us?" Sprig wondered as the mantis stuck its arm through the portal, about to attack him. "Sprig!" Anne and I shouted. Terri quick unplugged the portal, cutting off the mantis' arm. "That's your world?" Mr Boonchuy asked. "Home sweet home." Hop Pop replied. "Nice job, Terri." Rosalina complimented. "Thanks. I need way more power to make the portal bigger, but we're on the right track." Terri replied. "I don't believe it." Anne said. "We're so close to getting back to Amphibia." "Next stop: defeat Andrias and save our friends." I added. "Wow, girls. You're both impressive kids, you know that?" Dr Jan complimented. "Really?" I asked. "Traveling to another world, leaving your families behind again, not knowing when you'll see them next." Dr Jan replied. "Hmm, I haven't really thought about that until now." Anne explains. "Me either." I sighed. "Wow! That was crazy!" Rosalina exclaimed. "Did you see it, Dad?" "I sure did. I don't know how your sister survived there for five months." Dad replied. "I would not believe it if I hadn't just seen it." Mr Boonchuy explains. "That was incredible." Mrs Boonchuy added. Anne was looking pretty guilty. But so was I. "Alright, everyone. Dr Jan and I think we can get the portal bigger, but here's a list of supplies I think we're gonna need." Terri explains, sending the list to our phones. "50,000 kilowatts of power generators, 400 cubic meters of ice, 8 gallons of yogurt covered pretzels." Mr Boonchuy read. "The portal needs yogurt covered pretzels?" Mrs Boonchuy asked. "Yes." Terri lied. "Looks like the only place we'll find all this is Spendco!" Dad cheered. "Spend what?!" Hop Pop asked.

"Spendco!" We all shouted once we arrived. "It's massive!" Sprig gasped. "Beautiful." Polly said. "They got avocados here?" Hop Pop asked. "They've got everything here." Anne explains. "Come on, Frobo. Shopping spree!" Polly shouted, taking Frobo around the store. "Which way to the avocados?" Hop Pop asked. "Toys, toys! Where are the toys?!" Sprig begged.

While also coming for groceries, Dad still bought some of the necessary supplies, including some extra avocados for Hop Pop. "Since we're all done, I'm gonna go find Sprig." I told Dad. "Okay, kiddo." Dad replied.

I dashed up to the toy aisle where I knew I would find Sprig. "Hey, buddy." I greeted. "Hey, Rowena. Look what I found." Sprig said, showing me a water balloon launcher. "That's pretty cool. Are you gonna get it?" I asked. "I'm not sure yet." Sprig replied as Anne walked behind us. "Anne, check this thing out. Booyah!" Sprig fired a water balloon in Anne's direction. Anne still looked upset. "Uh, are you okay, Anna Banana?" I asked. "What? Oh, yeah. It didn't hit me." Anne replied. "But, are you okay in here?" Sprig asked, pointing to her heart. "Not really. I've been so focused on opening the portal and getting back to Amphibia, I haven't thought about what I'm leaving on this side. My parents." Anne frowned. "I feel the same way, leaving my dad and sister behind again." I explained. "I get it. They're pretty great." Sprig said. "What if we wait a couple days? You can spend more time with your families. I'm sure Amphibia can wait a little while longer." "I suppose that could be a good idea." Anne said. "Gangway!" Hop Pop shouted, pushing a cart full of avocados. "Holy guacamole!" Anne gasped. "Hey, kids." Hop Pop greeted. "Hop Pop? What is all this stuff?" Sprig asked. "Avocado hummus, avocado oil, avocado face masks." Hop Pop replied. "There's avocado everything! When I share it all with Amphibia, we'll be set for life!" All of a sudden, Frobo came up to Hop Pop, upgraded as an RC car, beginning to go on a test drive. "Nice wheels, Frobes." I complimented. "You like Frobo's new treads?" Polly asked. "We stopped by the RC car aisle." "What's with the DVDs?" Anne asked. "Oh, nothing. Just my favorite Die Difficulty films." Polly replied, inserting the DVD into Frobo's mouth. "Rice Wallace is an action movie genius." "I don't think this movie's age appropriate." I warned. "Anyways, see you nerds later. We're gonna go check out." Polly said. "Mr Boonchuy has like 8 credit cards." Hop Pop added, running to checkout with Polly. "Hey, have you guys seen my wallet?" Mr Boonchuy asked.

I helped load our stuff in both cars. "Alright, that's the last of it." Mr Boonchuy said. "See, I told you it would fit in both cars. Right, guys?" "Snug as a bug, Mr Boonchuy." Hop Pop replied. "Stack more on me!" Polly shouts. "I can take it." "I knew there was a reason I married you." Mrs Boonchuy said to her husband. "We'll meet you guys at the warehouse." Dad explains as we were suddenly surrounded by trucks that belonged to the FBI. Mr X comes outside, rolling on his heelys. "Looks like we've caught you at last, my little froggies." He greeted. "Frogs? What frogs?" Hop Pop asked. Mr X used a laser to remove his disguise, revealing his true form. "Quick, you guys! Run!" Anne warned as her and I were tied together by the legs, hitting the ground. "Anne, Rowena!" Sprig yelled. "Get up, girls!" Polly shouts as all the frogs were captured by a federal agent. "Anne and Rowena. So we finally have some names." Mr X said. "I gotta say, you two have caused me a lot of grief, but that's all over now. Pack it up, boys." "What about the two girls and their families?" The agent asked. "Leave them." Mr X explains. "There's nothing they can do now." The Plantars were locked up in the back of one of the trucks. "Guys, no!" Anne and I cried as they drove off with the Plantars. "Mom, Dad!" Anne exclaimed. "We gotta..." "Go after them, I know." Mr Boonchuy interrupted, cutting us free with his pocket knife. "Dad! We need to help them!" I cried. "We are going home." Dad explains. "I don't want you and or Rose getting arrested by the feds." "You said you'd always keep them safe!" I shouted. "They took me and Anne into their home when their whole town was afraid of us. They risked their lives to help us find a way home. Anne and I most likely would be dead if they didn't find us! Now it's our turn to help them." "Fine." Dad sighed, driving behind Mrs Boonchuy.

As Dad was driving, we followed Anne's family to the FBI HQ. Anne called me about a plan to free the Plantars. We realized that we can't do this alone. It was time to call for backup.

After calling a few people, we met up at Terri's warehouse to discuss a plan. "And now, the Plantars are being held by the FBI in a secret government compound." Anne explains. "Wait, wait, wait, back up. The Plantars are alien creatures from another world?" Ally asked. "Frog Man was a frog? Actually, that checks out." MJ said. "C̄hạn rạk kb." A Thai community member said to her friend. "Doy c̄hephāa kạb kratheīym." "Yes, and we need your help to save them." I said. "But this is serious. If we get caught, we'll be in huge trouble with the feds. So if anyone wants out, no hard feelings." To our surprise, everyone was in. "We're with ya. Til the end!" Humphrey shouted dramatically. "Whoa, so dramatic." MJ compliments. "Thanks, I'm an actor." Humphrey replied. "Alright, here's the plan. Step 1: Get into the compound by giving them something they want. Next, secure entry into the compound." Anne said.

Our plan was successful and we were disguised as federal agents. "Nice work. And now, we find the Plantars, and return these rental suits." I explained. We ran down the hallway and found the exam room. "That must be where the Plantars are." Anne said as we followed her inside, seeing something that looked familiar. "Hop Pop?" The lights turned on to see Earth frogs in a tank. "What the?" Rosalina wondered while Mr X slammed the door behind us. "Payback stings, doesn't it?" Mr X asked.

Before we knew it, we were locked up in federal prison. Every one of us. "What have you done with the Plantars?!" Anne snapped. "Give them back!" I yelled. "The Plantars, eh?" Mr X asked. "Sorry, kiddos, but they're government property now." "You can't do this. We have rights!" I shouted. "I can do whatever I want. I'm a highly specialized top federal agent. And you two are nothing but children." Mr X explains. "Heck, you wouldn't have even gotten this far without your mommies and daddies." "You take that back! I'm only 16!" Rosalina gasped. "Face it, kids. It's time to stop playing heroes before it gets you all in serious trouble. Oh, wait. You are already in serious trouble. Woo! Today is a good day." Mr X said, leaving the room. Anne and I accepted defeat. "Don't listen to that guy, girls." MJ encouraged. "Yeah, he's just a well-dressed blowhorn." Humphrey added. "But, he's right." I cried. "We are just kids." "How are we supposed to save our friends, beat the FBI, defeat King Andrias, if we can't bring ourselves to say goodbye to our families?" Anne asked, crying. "All this time, I thought we could do these things, but I was wrong." "Don't be silly, girls." Mrs Boonchuy said. "If anyone can do this, it's you guys." Rosalina added. "How do you know?" I asked. "Are you kidding? Just looking at what you've already done." Mr Boonchuy replied. "Survived for months in another world." Dad said. "Made friends and fought for people who couldn't fight for themselves." Rosalina explains. "Built me that amazing Christmas float." Mrs Boonchuy added. "Defeated a killer robot!" Mr Boonchuy recalled. "Two killer robots, technically." Mrs Boonchuy corrected. "You both have grown so much. You can do this." "And no matter what, we'll be with you, Row." Dad explains, hugging me and Rosalina. The guards even started crying as the lights went out. Turns out that Terri and Dr Jan were stealing the power generator from the compound. "What's happening?" Anne asked. "Holy cow! Terri and Jan stole the camp's generator!" Ally exclaimed. "The entire compound is shut down, which means..." "Glitch in the power locks." Jess said, opening her cell. "Let's go!" "Freedom!" Humphrey yelled. As Anne and I ran towards the door, we were still stopped by the guards. "Hold it right there!" He shouted. "I may have been touched by your story, but I'm still gonna stop you!" "Girls, catch!" Mr Boonchuy called, tossing both of us a toy sword. "You bought those?" Mrs Boonchuy asked. "What? It was on sale." Mr Boonchuy explains. Anne and I turned on the swords and took out the guards. "Eh, they'll be fine." I said. "You guys wait here. We'll be right back." Anne added.

Anne made a dramatic entrance inspired by one of Rosalina's favorite movies. "Hey! That kid escaped!" The guard gasped. "Get her!" Some of the guards ran to the other side of the hall. "Hi, guys." I greeted, attacking the cowardly guards. "Let me out! Let me out!" The last guard screamed, banging on the door before Anne took him out. "Uh, it says "pull" dude." Anne said, running to the cells with me. "Alright, coast is clear. Now, let's go save some frogs."

Anne and I crawled through the ventilation system to free the Plantars. "Rowboat, I found them!" Anne whispers, opening the vent. "What up, fam?" "Anne, Rowena!" The frogs cheered. "We're here to rescue you guys." I explained. "Hey! Who are you? You can't be in here!" Another guard yelled. Anne released Frobo as he spit some DVDs at the guard. "Man, are we glad to see you." Sprig said as Anne, Frobo, and I freed the frogs. "Are you guys okay?" I asked. "Mostly." Hop Pop replied. "My dignity is admittedly in shambles." "So, what's the plan on getting out of here?" Polly asked. "Well..." Anne started an FBI truck burst through the wall. "Surprise!" Rosalina exclaimed. "Hey, need a ride?" Terri asked. "It's you!" Hop Pop cheered. "Molly Jo?" Sprig asked. "What up, Frog Man?" MJ greeted, high fiving Sprig. "Humphrey, you helped save us?" Hop Pop asked. "What can I say? Us actors have to stick together." Humphrey replied. "Ally! Jess!" Polly exclaimed. "You fixed Frobo!" Jess cheered. "Sorta." Ally added. "Alright, buckle up." Dr Jan explains. Terri hits the gas and escaped through the gate.

A few minutes later, I looked outside to see Mr X, Jenny, and his other guards chasing us down the road. "Okay, time to ditch these losers." I explained. All of us tossed random stuff outside to slow them down. One of the trucks was right on our tail. "Polly!" Anne shouted. "Way ahead of you!" Polly shouts, shaking Frobo as he vomited oil and the truck crashed. Mr X got out of the truck and jumped to ours. "Guys, we need something else to throw." Rosalina explains. "How about this?" Sprig suggested, holding up a barrel of kombucha with his tongue, tossing it at Mr X. "Oh, you have got to be kidding me." He said as he's hit by the barrel. We all celebrated our victory.

Later that night, we got to the warehouse to finish the portal. I couldn't believe that we'd be back in Amphibia in a few minutes. "I don't believe it. We did it!" I cheered. "Grab the other generators." Terri ordered. "We've got one shot at this." I looked back at Dad and Rosalina as Anne looked back at her parents. "I'm so proud of you, sis." Rosalina said. "You and Anne will make the multiverse proud, too." "I'll miss you, Rosa." I cried, hugging my sister, who handed me my bag. "You are destined to save all worlds, tadpole." Dad sniffles, hugging me. "I wish I had more time with you guys." I whimpered. I saw the Plantars hugging Anne's parents and I knew I forgot something. "Mr and Mrs Boonchuy. Thank you for everything you've done for me and Rosalina." I thanked. "Of course." Mrs Boonchuy replied. "Anne thinks so much of you. She always has." I hugged her parents and joined Anne and the Plantars near the portal. "Everyone ready?" Terri asked. "Got everything?" "We're ready." Anne and I replied. "I'm set." Hop Pop added. I've got one avocado left, to save my avocado dynasty." "Alright, here we go!" Terri shouted, activating the portal, but it was still the same size as before. Polly wouldn't even fit through. "Oh, no." Anne gasped. "It doesn't look any bigger." Hop Pop said. "We still can't fit through!" Sprig cried. "Guys, what can we do?" I asked. "All those generators weren't enough." Dr Jan explains. "That was twice the power we estimated it would need." Terri added. "If that didn't work, I'm afraid nothing will." We all gasped as the feds broke into the warehouse. Multiple guards surrounded us. "No! We were so close." Anne sighed. "Not bad, girls. Not bad." Mr X commented, slow clapping. "Turns out you were more capable than I thought, but you still failed. Because no matter what you do, you're still just kids." Anne slapped his hand away. "You're right, X." I said. "We are just kids." "But today reminded me that with the right people by our side, we can do anything!" Anne added as both of us felt our blue powers present. "What the?" Mr X asked as we used our powers to defend ourselves and the Plantars. "What are you?" "We're the Calamity Girls." I replied. "Anne, Rowena, look, the portal!" Sprig shouted. The computers were going haywire as Anne and I used our powers to expand the portal to Amphibia. "The portal!" Dr Jan gasped. "How is that possible?" Terri asked. "They're powering it." Ally explains. "Like some kind of..." "Human batteries!" Jess added. "What is that place?" Mr X asked. "And is that a giant preying mantis? Men. Seize them. This is it!" Anne came up with an idea. "Hop Pop, give me your avocado!" Anne exclaimed. "Aw, come on!" Hop Pop cried. "Dude!" Anne groaned. Hop Pop gives the avocado to Anne, who split it in half with her powers. "I have more in my bag." I whispered, brightening Hop Pop's mood. "Hey, bug boy! You hungry?" The mantis came through the portal and started attacking the guards. "Rose, I want you to go with your sister." Dad said. "You'll be safer if you stick together." "No, Dad, I can't leave you." Rosalina cried. "And you can't leave Rowena. This is for you and your sister's own safety. Go!" "Okay." Rosalina sniffs, hugging Dad and headed towards the portal. "Now's our chance! C'mon!" Anne shouted as the Plantars quickly went through the portal. "Rosa? What are you doing?" I asked. "I'm coming with you guys." Rosalina explains. "Girls, take care!" Mrs Boonchuy called. "We love you!" Mr Boonchuy added. "Miss you already, Dad." I said, waving to Dad as Rosalina and I walked through the portal to Amphibia with a tight grip onto each other.

I woke up, still gripping onto Rosalina. "Guys, we made it!" Anne cheered. "I can't believe it! This is so..." We all turned around to see the Plantars staring just outside the valley in silence with the town ahead basically in ruins. "Guys? Hey. What's going on?" I asked. "Holy frog abuse." "This is Amphibia?" Rosalina wondered. "Rowena, this is completely different from the pictures you showed us." "What..." Anne paused in shock. "...happened here?"
