For Agent_Prim_Of_221B- Steve/Kiara/Loki Oneshot
Hey, all! This is an Avengers/Loki Oneshot that I'm posting in here for @Agent_Prim_Of_221B
She has a WONDERFUL AMAZING Avengers fanfic that you should definitely read, if you haven't already. Actually, you should go do that because if you continue reading it won't make much sense, probably. Anyway.
Here it is!
Kiara slowly sipped a warm mug of apple cider as she nervously tried to remember how breathing worked.
"Hey, it's only a boy," teased Todd, coming up behind her and grinning. "You do live with one, after all."
"Shut up," she said irritably. "It's only Captain America, you genius. What if I, like, burn his house down or something?"
"I thought you only burned things when you were angry?" Todd inquired with a thoughtful look.
"Well," Kiara said sheepishly. "Also i-if I'm nervous. Which never happens. Except apparently now."
"Why are you so nervous?" Todd exclaimed, sitting next to her on the couch. "I figured that after Loki, nobody could make you nervous."
Kiara's eyes flashed at the name. Loki was in the past, and she had to move on. Earth was her home now, and Steve...well, she liked him. Really liked him. And in five minutes, he was going to pick her up for a date.
"Okay, I'm sorry I mentioned Loki." Todd said, grimacing. "But Steve is a nice lad."
"Lad?" Kiara said with a wry smile. "You sound like Thor."
"Hast thou seen my silvery hammer?" he replied in an exaggerated British accent.
"Okay," Kiara said, shoving him. "Now you sound like Stark."
Todd looked up at her from the floor. "Hey," he said reproachfully. "That hurt."
Kiara rolled her eyes. "I'm sorry I'm stronger than you, now get off the--"
She froze as the doorbell rang. 7:00, on the dot. Todd shot her one last reassuring glance as she stepped to the door.
"Very punctual, are you?" Kiara said as soon as she opened the door.
"Ma'am," said Steve, his warm blue eyes twinkling. "When I was in the Army, they taught us to always be on time."
She laughed and he helped her onto his motorcycle.
The lights blinked on as soon as he opened the door.
"Fancy light sensors," Kiara observed.
Steve ran a hand through his hair apologetically. "Stark did it," he said with a smile. "I told him not to, but..."
He led her through the foyer of his house towards, presumably, the dining room. She noticed that his house was simple, not anything fancy or gaudy, like Stark's place or Banner's science labs. A few old World War II era posters were framed and tastefully hung on the wall, and Steve's classic bomber jacket hung on a coat rack.
With a smile, Steve opened the door and presented a set table, with tall candles and a small vase of white lilies decorating the table. "It's lovely," Kiara said, running a finger along the tablecloth. "Thank you, Steve."
"Of course," he laughed. But she could see his baby-blue eyes darting around nervously. He was so adorable.
They sat down to dinner.
Kiara thought that they would have nothing to talk about, but as it happened, they never didn't have anything to talk about. It was well past 9:00 when their conversation finally started to slow down. Steve had gotten up to pour more wine when the doorbell rang.
"Who is that?" she inquired.
"I honestly have no idea," he said, setting down the bottle. "Hold on. Maybe it's Stark or something demanding that I give back his wine."
His wine?
She raised her eyebrow at him.
"I don't really keep nice wines on hand," Steve explained, blushing a little.
Kiara laughed as Steve went to answer the door.
But a cold voice made her tense.
“Uhh, Kiara? Could you come here?” Steve’s voice came through to the dining room faintly.
Kiara swallowed and set down her napkin, slowly walking to the front door.
Framed in the doorway stood the last person she hoped to ever see, especially on her first date with Steve.
Loki.
“Hello," he said, fixing her with his icy stare. His gorgeous green eyes still were blue-ish, making them seem teal.
A wave of rage filled her and her fingers began to tingle.
“Why are you here, Loki?” she said, calmly, although she was filling with hot air, like a balloon. Steve quietly slipped away.
“Why do you think?” he said with a lazy grin. “I couldn’t let my little Asgardian get whisked away by some….test-tube soldier.”
“Ouch,” said Steve mildly, reappearing behind her.
Loki spared him a withering glance and returned his attention to Kiara.
“I was not whisked away,” she hissed. “And I am not you’re little anything, in case you had any doubts.”
“Oh, I didn’t,” Loki smiled. “I just had to see for myself. Kiara, darling, you are so powerful. Think of what we could do together.”
“Oh, no, not this again,” Kiara shot back. “I will never fall for you again. How dare you shatter my life with your empty promises and twisted words? You may be broken, Loki, but I can’t fix you. I tried that, remember?”
Loki didn’t even miss a beat at her harsh words.
“But love,” he said, with a hint of cruel sarcasm. “You belong in Asgard.”
“Hold on,” Steve interrupted. Kiara willed him to be cautious. Loki, she could handle, but if things got rough she would not see Steve in danger because of Loki’s tricks and traps. But he was an avenger, she supposed he had seen his share of villains.
“Hold on,” Steve said again. “Isn’t the Bifrost still broken? How did you get down?”
“Oh, we gods have our ways,” he said arrogantly, casting Steve an irritated look.
“Loki, I don’t love you anymore,” Kiara said sadly. “I thought once I always would, and maybe I always will, but I love the memory of who you used to be, not the monster you are now.”
Loki’s facade briefly faltered, and a hurt look passed through his face. But it was replaced by another cold smirk.
“That’s what you think.” he said smugly, leaning on the doorframe. “But what does your heart really say?”
"What I already said," Kiara said, fire blazing through her words. It had taken her a while to get here, and she would not back down.
"Are you sure he heard, Girl on Fire? Because honestly, he's so thick headed, I'm not sure anything you're saying is getting to him." came a cool voice from behind Loki.
Loki whirled around, a blazing scepter in his hand suddenly. "Stark," he snarled. "Our favorite metal man."
"That's me!" Stark agreed brightly, spreading his arms wide. He wore only one of his fancy suits, seemingly threaded through with gold. "Is it too late to crash a very hot date?"
Steve rolled his eyes. "It was not a 'hot date', Stark,"
"Sure it wasn't," he winked at Kiara.
"Who invited you, anyway?" Loki said rudely.
"Honestly, Rock of Ages," Tony countered, his eyes sparking. "Who invited you?"
"Your stupidity astounds me," Loki scowled. "Who shows up at a house at this hour?"
"We do," said a hard voice from above them.
Kiara and Steve looked up to see a high black boot dangling from the roof.
"Hello, Nat," Steve said cheerfully. "Oh, and Loki? If someone called you and said there were villains on Thor's doorstep, I think you'd go running off too."
"No, he'd befriend them," grinned Stark.
"Okay, that was a bad analogy." Steve conceeded. He squeezed Kiara's hand reassuringly.
"Terrible," grinned Dr. Bruce Banner, appearing from behind the hedge.
"How nice," sniffed Loki. "You've brought all of them."
Tony spoke then. "C'mon, Loki, you know we love to crash a party!"
Loki lunghed forward and grabbed Kiara around the waist.
"I don't think there's anything left to crash," he said, tilting his head at Tony Stark. "Come, Kiara."
Kiara's hands blazed in a fire so red, the asphalt began to hiss. "Let me go," she hissed.
"Oh, no, darling, it's much too late for that." Loki said carelessly, as he began to walk across the pavement. She looked into his eyes, and breathed the smell of his metallic armor for the first time in months.
Some things never change, she thought sadly. It would be so easy to go back with him, forget of the things he did.
"Kiara!" yelled Steve from the door. His voice was laced with panic.
Some things don't have to change, she decided. She would not lose someone she loved for Loki.
Kiara wrenched herself away from him and thrust her hands at him, blasting with a column of pure white fire, similar to that of Tony's Iron Man suit.
She noticed they all, incidentally, had suited up, even Stark. How did...Oh. The suit. Gold thread? She shook her head slowly. Oh, Tony.
Loki was on the driveway, two smoking holes smoldering in his armor. "No, Kiara," he said through gritted teeth.
"Yes," she said, seeing the circle of Avengers that surrounded Loki. "It can never be the same."
Loki shot her a fierce look. "Then I shall never protect you again," he scowled.
"Protect me?" Kiara shouted. "Protect me? You have done nothing but try and corrupt me from the moment I saw you here, anywhere, after you fell. Your business here is over, stop pushing it."
"I'd listen to her," Tony said from where he was aiming at Loki. "She has that white fire thing pretty good now. As you see, it can even melt Asgardian armor."
"I wonder if it melts Asgardian faces?" commented Natasha from the roof.
"Hopefully you don't find out today, Loki," said Steve, tossing his red-white-blue shield from hand to hand.
Loki stood up, narrowing his eyes. And in a single green flash, he was gone.
Kiara knelt on the pavement, tears streaming down her face. She felt arms around her instantly and recognized Steve's familiar cologne. Steve.
"I'm sorry," she said, looking at him defeatedly. "I'm sorry I caused all of this."
"It wasn't your fault," came Banner's warm voice from behind him. She glanced at him. He looked a little green, but maybe that was just the light.
"Steve?" Kiara said.
"Yes, ma'am?" He asked with a grin, helping her up.
"Thank you," she said. "Thank you all."
"It's no problem," came Hawkeye's gruff voice from somewhere, probably a tree.
"Oh, and Tony?" Kiara intoned, as Steve led her through door. "Nice suit."
He winked at her and signaled for the others to say their goodbyes.
*****************************
"Now," Steve said after all the Avengers had left. "What about a movie?"
