Chapter Five

Grabbing the last box, I walk out of my apartment and down the stairs to my car. Everything I own is packed away, ready to be moved into my new home. Considering my car is barely able to hold all my own boxes, Quinn had to find his own ride over to our new home. He probably had his mate help him.

It is sort of nostalgic moving out of here. This apartment has been my home for the last three years, ever since Quinn and I were taken from Lena's mom's care and made to live on our own. We had lived with Mrs. O'Brien for years since we didn't have our own parents to take care of us. Just thinking of it makes my heart sting, so I shake my head forcing those thoughts away.

I make sure to run back up the stairs and lock the door, leaving the key on the top of the door frame once I am done. With a sigh, I return to the car, ready to head to my new home. It would be interesting to live with people, especially my mate, but I guess I would have to get used to it.

The drive doesn't take too long, only about five minutes. Pulling up into the drive way, I see that I am the last to arrive. Apparently, being on time is not my forte.

I grab a box and make my way into the house. Quinn is putting food away in the kitchen, and everyone else must be doing their own thing somewhere in the house.

Being as quiet as I can, I set the box I am holding down by the front door and sneak into the kitchen. Half of Quinn's body is hanging out of the fridge, his dark gray tail swinging as he organizes things. I stop right behind him and wait for him to stand back up. It doesn't take too long before Quinn is standing up and admiring his work. He turns around and finally notices me, jumping a foot in the air in fright.

"Henley, you asshole," he yells, hitting me in the chest. Laughing, I try to block his hits, but then he just moves to pinching my ears.

"Ow," I say, laughing as I try to block my ears from his pinching fingers.

"How long have you been standing there?" Quinn questions, closing the fridge door. He walks over to the sink and washes his hands, looking at me over his shoulder.

"A few minutes, I haven't been here too long," I say, leaning back against the counter. "Where is everyone?"

After drying his hands, Quinn gestures for me to follow him into the living room. "Somewhere in the house. I know Link is putting stuff away in our room, weird noises are coming from Lena's and Lottie's room, and Braeden is doing his own thing." Eyeing my box next to the door, he raises an inquisitive brow, as if asking where all of the rest of my stuff is.

"It's still in the car, I didn't get a chance to bring them in yet." Together, we walk outside and I pop open the trunk of my car. Braeden walks out the door and over to us.

"Did you just get here?" he asks, picking up a box and following us as we walk back into the house.

"Yeah," I say, locking the front door behind us, "I just got here a few minutes ago."

"I didn't hear you come in," he says, scrunching his eyebrows. "I would have been down here sooner."

"It's okay, Braeden, we got everything." I smile at him and he gives me one of his own. "Now, where's our room? I want to unpack everything as soon as possible."

Braeden grabs two of my boxes, stacking them on top of each other. "I'll show you the way." I grab a box and follow him up the stairs and down the hallway. This house is surprisingly big. The kitchen is decent sized and connects to the living room and dining room. Everything is carpet, which is a change from my old apartment that had entirely hard wood floors.

We pass three doors before we finally stop at the one at the very end. Precariously, I balance the box I am holding with one hand and turn the doorknob with the other. The door swings open, allowing me to see our new room. Stepping aside, I let Braeden in and set down the box I am holding.

"Wow," I breathe, taking in the spacious room. In the center is a queen sized bed, topped with a dark gray comforter that coordinates with the dark gray curtains on the windows. The walls are a soft blue color, making the room appear bright, despite the dark colors of the bedspread and curtains.

"Over here is the bathroom," Braeden says, gesturing towards the door on my left. "And that one over there is the closet. I already have all my stuff in there, so all the rest of it is yours." He points towards the doors on my right. I nod my head but walk over to the bed and flop onto it face first instead of checking out the bathroom and closet.

"Bed's comfortable," I say, words muffled by the comforter I have my face buried in.

Braeden clears his throat. Turning my head, I watch as he lays down next to me and stares at the ceiling. We lay in silence for a few minutes, listening to the others as they walk around the house or unpack their things. There are weird moaning noises coming from the room next to ours.

"Who has the room next to ours?" I question, rolling onto my side and looking over at my mate. I can see a blush working its way up Braeden's face and he refuses to meet my eyes.

"Um, that would be Lena and Lottie," Braeden says, the sounds in the room next to ours getting louder.

"What the hell are they doing over there?" I mumble. The blush is spreading even further up Braeden's cheeks. That's when it clicks. "Wait, are they doing what I think they're doing?"

I get my answer when I hear giggling and louder moans than before coming from the girls' room. Yep, they are definitely doing the do.

Staying quiet, I secretly hope they will be over soon so I don't have to listen to my best friend having sex with her mate. I don't have to wait too long. Quinn's voice can be heard all the way up here, even though I'm pretty sure he is still in the kitchen.

"Lena! Quiet down the sex noises!" he yells. I smother my laugh into the blanket when I hear a squeal come from the adjacent room. Looking up, I see Braeden shaking in his own silent laughter.

"Oh wow," I say through my laughter. "I never want to hear that again." Slowly, our laughter dies down, but we continue to stare at each other. I just now notice how close we really are, closer than we had been when we first laid down on the bed.

"Can I kiss you?" I whisper, completely ruining the trance we had been in. Surprise covers Braeden's face. Closing my eyes, I feel myself blush as I ramble. "I just ruined the moment, didn't I? I can't believe I just asked that. I mean, we just heard our best friends getting it off. I'm sick, aren't I? Just forget I as-" I am cut off when I feel lips pressing against my own. Opening my eyes, I see that Braeden had closed the gap between us during my rambling.

I close my eyes again, not wanting to be the weird hybrid who has their eyes open while kissing. Reaching my hand up, I run my fingers through his blonde waves, all the way up to his ears. I feel him shudder once I start rubbing his wolf ears.

We pull apart, breathing harshly as we stare at each other. Hesitantly, Braeden rolls us so that I am lying on my back and he is hovering over me.

"I've been wanting to do that ever since our date yesterday," Braeden says softly, running his own hand through my hair and rubbing my fox ear. I smile at him, feeling warmth spread through my chest.

"Me too," I whisper, leaning up and giving him another kiss. Feeling his tongue run along my bottom lip, I part my lips, letting his tongue enter my mouth. The warmth in my chest slowly spreads throughout my body, but our kiss is cut short by a knock at the door.

"Dinner is ready," Quinn says before walking away from the closed door. Braeden stares at me for a few seconds before rolling off of me. He crawls off the bed and extends his arm out to me, helping me climb off the mattress. Intertwining his fingers with mine, Braeden gently pulls me out of the bedroom. We exchange smiles as we walk down the stairs. This has been going better than I thought it would. Hopefully things would just keep getting better from here.
