I Should Stay Away From him...
Marilyn's POV
The image of Adrien's hands was something I wanted to erase. No matter how hard I tried it was something I had to deal with.
What happened to him? Did he get in a fight?
It was obvious it was recent as I don't recall seeing them this morning. His jacket was also stained with blood but I was sure it wasn't his.
I don't say anything to Ava or Nathan about Adrien's hands and start to wonder if he really is a good-hearted boy, because right now he is the type of person my mother is telling me to stay away from.
We walk together to our last lesson and from time to time I keep catching a glimpse of Adrien's pleading face and concerned looks gazing at me. However, I am the one who is worrying about him, wondering what had happened?
We entered the classroom with our new teacher Ms. Evans. The lesson is going really well and I peacefully enjoy English by averting my focus on the essay piece, pushing away all thoughts of Adrien. I check the time and see 5 minutes left of the lesson. Wow, that went quick! I thought to myself smiling.
A knock on the door made everyone's head turn and out came another unexpected appearance of Mr. Agreste.
Honestly, I don't think I can cope with this anymore! I thought miserably to myself.
His face is stern and angry and he walks up to the front of the classroom showing no indication or emotion of what's happening. He then tells us a shocking announcement.
"Afternoon class, I am sorry to disturb your lesson but I believe that a student in this class had started a fight and brutally hit two students at lunch. The students' parents have been informed but no identification of who did the hitting has been known. So, I want every student to come up here and show me their hands!" Said Mr. Agreste displeased.
I suddenly felt weak as the colour of my face drained. I glanced over to Adrien, and my heart broke at his panicked look.
People start queuing up and Mr. Agreste inspects their hands front and back. I grab Adrien's hand and take him to the back near a corner.
"Adrien, I know it was you who did it." I said still shaking at how close I was to him. I could smell his cologne and wanted to smile but this was no laughing matter.
"Yes, it was me, although those boys were tormenting my sister. I didn't mean to hurt them. Honest." His eyes looked sincere and defeated as if he knew what would happen.
Having an idea, I grabbed my makeup bag and examined his hands. It would be easy to cover them up but I would have to hurry as the line was already getting shorter. I brought out my concealer and checked to see if it's the same colour as his skin. Gently brushing his hands fast, my hands began to feel hot and clammy. I then brought out my pressed powder and brush it quickly making sure I covered all the bruises. I had this slight urge of kissing them, but pushed away all of my sinned thoughts. Examining my final finish, I admire my handiwork and put all of my makeup away. I still cannot believe what I had done. Adrien looks at his hands and smiles at me with delight.
Then I felt his fingers graze against my own casually at first, as though by accident -then slowly, entwine themselves round mine. His face comes close to mine, not only could I smell his cologne but croissants as well.
He whispers "Thank you, Marilyn, I will never forget this!" His voice tickles my ear but still doesn't let go of my hand.
As it's my turn to show my hands to Mr. Agreste, he stares at me with distaste and tells me to move along. Finally, it's Adrien's turn, I cross my fingers, my toes and close my eyes and felt a slight nudge 5 seconds later as I open my eyes to see Adrien grinning and staring adoringly at me. He grabs my hand and walks me over to the school front door. He bows down and says:
"My lady, why won't you please go first!" The way his blonde hair flops down to cover his eyes made me smile. I roll my eyes and laugh and say:
"Oh, Chaton you should know your flirts and charms do not work on me!" Before I could take back what I said, I suddenly covered my mouth and froze. Adrien stiffened as well.
"What did you say?" Adrien said wide-eyed.
"I don't know why I said that? It just felt, right... just forget about it, it was nothing!" I said wavering my hand around confused. Adrien stared at me and takes my hands.
"I need to know something, just one thing," He says desperately.
"What, Adrien?" I said uncertainly looking at his hands holding mine.
"I know this might sound stupid and unreal but do you believe in fate and destiny? During the first time I met you, I kept having this strange feeling as though I know you from somewhere? Or that I have met you before in... i-n a different time." I stared at him gobsmacked and laughed as I couldn't help myself.
Was Adrien actually telling me this, was he right now worked up against fate and destiny? What was he going on about?
However, I knew what he was implying on as I was having the same feeling as well. Maybe it was the wrong idea for me to laugh at a comment like that. I looked at Adrien and his face was stone cold with no hint of laughter.
Oh God, I have messed up...
"Um... well I don't know I don't... I. You know this is a hard question and tell me why you suddenly ask it in the middle of joy?" I replied angrily.
Adrien's stared at me long and hard. I start to feel flustered in spite of wearing a coat.
"Fine, whatever I need to find Peggy as I said I would meet her. Guess I'll see you tomorrow." Adrien said quietly looking down. Speechless I watched Adrien walk off to find Peggy.
In a daze, I sat down on a near bench and thought about what Adrien had told me. I have screwed up. I didn't mean to make him upset... I just don't know how to control my emotions and feelings around him. Maybe the fate and destiny thing were referring to us. I still don't understand what's that got to do with now.
I'm already cursed with bad luck and to know fate and destiny are trying to get back at me too...What kind of world do we live in?? What was Adrien trying to tell me?
I rubbed my temples. No point in driving myself mad by thinking of more questions as I know I won't get them answered. I thought.
In fact, I think Adrien hates me now.
Too tired to argue with myself I stand up and walk home. I don't even know who Adrien is, I had just met him today, but why do I feel so connected towards him? I shake my head and plug in my music. Tears blur my eyes as I realised I have cried too much today at school. I should probably stay away from Adrien and listen to my mother's advice.
Turning up my music to maximum volume I walk home.
