Part Five: Magna Carta
Five years after the midnight battle in Sherwood Forest, in a cold winter, a rumour was spread throughout Nottingham: the well-known mistress of outlaws, Anais d'Nottinghamshire, was dead. Someone said she died due to pneumonia, the others said she was assassinated. No one knew the truth behind that rumour, excepted Robin Hood, Alan-a-Dale, and Crown Princess Anaivere Plantagenet. When Anais was alive, despite that the taxes were risen continuously, doubled, tripled even quadrupled, Nottingham citizens didn't die much from starvation.
Luckily, in 1215, five years more after that, there were a few nobilities stood by the peasants' side, especially low-ranked nobilities such as the barons. They made a rebellion toward the unpopular King John, who would sign a peace treaty to give most of his power to the barons.
The barons, who was led by the Crown Princess of England, Anaivere Plantagenet, made a treaty that limited the high-ranked nobilities and the king's power and rights, prevented illegal imprisonment to citizens, and also, reduced the taxes. The treaty was named "Magna Carta", which means "The Great Charter", was signed by King John himself, on the day of 15 June 1215, at Runnymede, near Windsor Castle.

15 June 1215,... Runnymede...
Led by the Crown Princess Anaivere, the barons and other low-ranked nobilities such as knights, went to a green meadow at Runnymede near the Windsor Castle to have the hated King John signed the peace treaty which was written by the Archbishop of Canterbury. This would be witnessed by many of citizens around there. The King also came with some guards and his eldest son, the eight-year-old Prince Henry. At that time, King John was forty-seven-year-old and his niece, the Crown Princess, was round thirty-one.
"Although I knew you had pity on those peasants, I had never expected you led those nobilities to have a rebellion against your uncle, Little Anaivere..."
"My dearest Uncle John, as the Crown Princess, my duty is to care for my citizens, not to harm them..."
The little prince behind King John peeked aside to see the people who were "rebels" that revolted against his father. He saw a noblewoman standing at the lead, or, his cousin, to be precise. Behind the Crown Princess, not only the barons followed, but also Robin Hood, his right-hand man Little John and the minstrel Alan-a-Dale.
"That is Anaivere Plantagenet, the Crown Princess?"
The little prince asked his governor who was standing behind. And he replied:
"Yes, Your Highness. She is the eldest daughter of your aunt, Princess Anne..."
"So... thou once told me that the eldest son of the king is the successor to the throne. Why I am just the Prince, not the Crown Prince?"
"This was Her Majesty Queen Eleanor's will, and we are to oblige to it. I didn't know why Her Majesty chose Her Royal Highness to be the successor to the throne..."
"This is not fair, not right. A girl cannot become the Crown, can she?"
King John scolded his son for being annoyed. The Archbishop of Canterbury handed out the treaty, "Magna Carta", onto the feast table which was prepared for this day.
King John had no way to refuse the situation. His unpopularity was undeniable, and there was no way he could reverse it. England's people hated him, even his niece was also one in whom that rebelled against him and the other nobilities. Despite being a royalty, the Crown Princess stood by the peasants' side.
The king looked at the people who was standing behind their mistress, there were the ones whom he was always seeking - the infamous and beloved legendary outlaws, Robin Hood and his merry men. There were even the Church who also stood by the poor citizens' side: Friar Tuck, the brothers of Nottingham Cathedral, Mother Maiseline and the sisters of Nottingham Abbey.
"Robin Hood of Sherwood Forest, I have always heard about thee, but it seems we have never met in person like this before, have we not?"
The master of outlaws mockingly replied:
"It's a honour for me, to have both of the Kings of England cared about, Your Majesty. The deceased His Majesty King Richard, and the infamous King John!"
King John calmly asked with a fair smile:
"If thou could only serve and loyal one monarch, who wilt thou choose?"
Robin Hood then loudly announced:
"Who will I choose? You ain't ever be king. Long live King Richard!"
The spectators around there also declared:
"Long live King Richard! Hail Crown Princess Anaivere!"
The Magna Carta was signed right after, forcibly by King John himself. Everyone thought that from now on, England's people would have their deserved rights and their deserved monarch. But there was a thing that no one expected: the revenge of Prince Henry toward his cousin, Anaivere Plantagenet. That was which people called "Anarchy of the Crown".

September 1215...
Although the failure of King John which ended with Magna Carta was undeniable, he still tried to claim back his supreme power from the barons. The refusal of King John to the peace treaty which he had sealed recently led to the First Barons' War.
The leader of the barons, Sir Robert FitzWalter, allied with France and Scotland to rebel against the unworthy king John Angevin-Plantagenet. They had the secret help from the Crown Princess Anaivere Plantagenet and Robin Hood, now was known as Richard of Loxley, along with the reliable financial support from the Church. Alan-a-Dale also joined the war in the position of a spy and adopted the name Dalean Adalan. Anyway, no one excepted Robin Hood and the Crown Princess acknowledged that Alan-a-Dale served as a reconnaissance.
Two hundred years before Saint Jeanne d'Arc, there was Crown Princess Anaivere Plantagenet who held the sword and off to the battle. The Crown Princess was usually seen riding side-saddle on a black horse, wearing a white satin hood with the golden fleur-de-lys crown and armoured with steel plates which bore her coat-of-arms. She went to the battle with a longbow and always ranged-combatted. As Alan-a-Dale told, there was no battles the barons lost within the aid of the Crown Princess.

December 1215...
It was a really cold winter, the snow fell so thick that no one could see the opponent beside a white curtain of snow. Occasionally, there were snowstorms, cold and deadly. Robin Hood and his merry men, along with Alan-a-Dale retreated back to Sherwood Forest, wait for the storms to pass. At least, they didn't have to worry about shortage of food and water there. And the Crown Princess returned into her tower at Nottingham Castle, temporarily stopped this war.
19 December 1215...
Alan-a-Dale came to see the Crown Princess with a sweet lass who had beautiful chestnut locks and charming green eyes.
"This is my sweetheart. I brought her here to serve Your Royal Highness and for her safety. Winchester was become battlefield..."
The Crown Princess looked at Alan-a-Dale's wife then smiled thoughtfully.
"Lady Ellen Clare née Forthcastle?"
Ellen shyly replied.
"Y... Yes, Your Highness. I am at your service..."
Sylvia, the Crown Princess's lady-in-waiting warmly greeted the new maiden. Ellen waved goodbye to her husband, who would join force with Robin Hood and his merry men to defend at the frontline.
21 December 1215... An even colder day...
Many of Nottingham's people would move into the Church and the Abbey to avoid the cold by the Nottingham Cathedral warm and big fireplaces. Included Mrs Wilson and her children, a childhood friend of the Crown Princess.
"Mother, will we be safe here?"
"Don't be worried, Mrs Wilson. Unless this Abbey is attacked, we're safe..."
Talking about the unfortunate, the Crown Princess caught a serious pneumonia. It was a day to Christmas, 24 December 1215. That day was also the unpopular King John's birthday.

The Crown Princess's chamber...
Alan-a-Dale, along with Robin Hood, came to visit his sweetheart and also, to see if the Crown Princess had been better. At the moment, the state was getting unbalanced; if the Crown Princess died, then the political situation would be worse than ever.
"How was Her Royal Highness, Lady Walther?"
"I can't tell anything at the moment. But I could say that if there isn't anything wrong, Her Highness will be healthy in a month..."
Ellen was sitting by the Crown Princess's bed, who was sleeping when they came, looked nervously at Her Royal Highness. Alan-a-Dale came and calmed his wife.
"Don't you worry, darling. Her Royal Highness will soon be all right..."

The Crown Princess did survive the pneumonia and even returned to battlefield. But, her greedy uncle, King John, wasn't that fortunate. In October 1216, a year after the beginning of the war, King John caught dysentery and died on the day of 19, when he was forty-nine-year-old. Although King John had died, but his allies still continued the war until 1217.
Right after King John's death, the Crown Princess Anaivere withdrew from the war, so did Robin Hood and his merry men. Now she was preparing for the day Nottinghamshire's citizens always wanted: the coronation of Anaivere Plantagenet.
