Chapter Six: Blisters And Bedrock
(act 2 season 2 episode 5 spoilers in this chapter uf you haven't seen the show yet)
It has been two years since that fateful day. The necklace still hangs around your neck. You are also expecting a little sister. The fact that your mom was knocked up surprised you at her age of 42, but you were excited nonetheless. Today, you are hanging out with Silco in a convertible silence. The two of you are at The Last Drop. Vander is behind the bar, as usual, enjoying the silence. It is noon already.
Silco is writing in his notebook, probably about the nation of Zaun. Ever since you met the two, for years, they have wanted to make the undercity independent from Piltover and call it Zaun. You were, of course, all in and would help the two with their dream. and you promised you would do your best for them.
The people of Zaun deserve more than a council that doesn't do shit for them. You have seen firsthand how enforcers invade homes and harass people. It shouldn't be that way; it never should have been that way. You were deep in thought right now, just thinking of how you could help more in any way, shape, or form. Silco noticed your absentmindedness and said, "Are you alright, (N/N)?"
Snapping out of your thoughts, you looked at him. "Mm, oh, just thinking about Zaun and how I could help." Shrugging your shoulders a bit, you continued, "I just wish there was more I could do," you said a bit sadly. Vander walked over with a glass of your (F/D) drink for you and placed it down in front of you. He said, "Don't sweat it, (Y/N). You are doing your best; that's already enough, and we both know it."
You took a swig from the drink, a bit frustrated with yourself. "I know, I just...it doesn't feel like it's enough."
Silco noticed your frustration and placed a hand on your thigh, looking at you with concern. Silco wasn't much of a man of many words, but the small gestures he made spoke volumes. You calmed down a bit from his touch, muttering a thank-you to him. He nodded at you, placing his hand back on the bar. Right when Silco wanted to say something, Felicia came walking in with a cheerful attitude. Vander spoke to her, asking what had gotten her in such a good mood.
She walked over to all of you, stood beside you, and slung her arm over your shoulder. "Nothing in particular," she said, smiling shyly. "How are you all doing?" she asked. You smiled at her and said, "Just talking about Zaun and hanging out as usual."
"Sounds important," she smiled and walked over to the jukebox, selecting a song. A mellow psychedelic rock song started playing. Vander, who was cleaning some glasses, asked, "What's the occasion?"
"Hmm. Can't a lady just be in the mood for a familiar song?" Vander chuckled. "Not this lady, and not this song." Vander cleaned up youre glass and placed four new ones, putting wine in them while Felicia came over, swaying to the music, and stood beside Silco, saying, "Tonight, a harebrained scheme these three bozos cooked up to turn a dank crack in the earth into a thriving, healthy community became a reality."
Tonight, huh? Did you hear that, Bozo 2? We made it. We're done," Vander said jokingly. Silco took a bite of his food and looked up at Vander, smiling a bit. "Oh, you're sadly mistaken. I'm Bozo 1, and pointing to me, she's Bozo 2." You and Felicia chuckled. Vander continued holding his glass in the air for a bit. A night of revelations. He drank some of the wine and placed his glass on the bar.
Felicia, out of nowhere, said, "I'm knocked up." You, Vander, and Silco looked at each other a bit in concern but immediately smiled. Vander changed her drink for a non-alcoholic one and placed a straw in it. She continued, "A girl."
"How do you know?" you questioned, smiling. She took a sip and said, "Mm. It wasn't really part of my plan, but I guess "That's everything when you're living week to week." Silco closed his notebook, marking his place with his pen. You and he both grabbed your drinks and went to stand closer to her and Vander, you leaning a bit on Silco, and he placed his arm around your waist. "What did Connol say?" Vander asked.
"I haven't told him yet. I'm working up the nerve." Felicia began to get uncertain of herself and continued, "I don't know anything about kids. I get sweaty being alone with one."
"Hey, you're going to be a great mother," you say with confidence.
"Oh, shut up. I'm not ready for that." I started trying to come up with a name, and it hits me that this one word is a decision she's going to live with her whole life. I can't protect her from all the shit down here and work out to be a parent at the same time. Then I realized I don't have to.
"Mm, why is that?" Vander asked.
"Because the second I told you, I put you on the hook." She chuckled, smiling. "You three," she pointed at all of us, "are going to figure this Zaun thing out. I don't care if you have to carve it out of the bedrock, covered in blisters. You're not allowed to fail anymore, for her, for me." Vander smiled a little, saying, "What's the point if we can't raise an ankle biter or two?" He smiled at Silco and I, and we both smiled back. Silco raised his glass, saying, "To Zaun, then. Blisters and bedrock." We all chuckled and clinked our glasses together, then took a swig from them. Vander thought for a second, then said, "I always liked the name Violet."
Felicia smiled, saying, "That's a beautiful name, Vander." You spoke up with determination in your eyes and said to Felicia, "I'm going to do everything in my power to make this work. I'll personally talk to the council if I have to." Silco spoke in shock, "You can't They'll have your head for it" Worry laced his voice. Felicia spoke, "He is right, you know. You've already done so much for this city. Don't get me wrong, I love the gesture, but why lose your head over it?"
"I want to do it for all of you. You're my family. I want to do it for the people of Zaun, but most of all, for you guys, to give you all a better life to live. You look to Felicia to have your kids have a better life. I can at least try.
Silco looks at Vander in a pleading way to come up with something. He thinks for a second and speaks. "(Y/N), you have to think this through. Maybe we should only use the council as a last resort."
You look at everyone, seeing their pleading looks for you not to do it. You think for a second. That's when Silco takes your hand in his. You look up into his beautiful green eyes, and he says, "Please don't do it. We don't want to lose you. I don't want to lose you." You couldn't say no to him. Ever since the two of you began your relationship, you've had a soft spot for him and only him. You sigh. "Alright, just as a last resort."
Silco kissed the back of your hand as a sign of thanks. You smiled. "I've got good news for you, Felicia." She chuckled. "Oh yeah? And what's that?" You continued, "Believe it or not, but my mom is actually knocked up as well, so your little bundle of joy will eventually have my little sister as a friend."
She chuckled. "I bet you can't even get her here to Zaun." You gave her a smirk. "Is that a challenge? Because if so, I'll accept." You held out your hand. Felicia took it, and both of you shook, saying, "It's a bet." It was, of course, all in fun and games.
Silco and Vander shook their heads at the weird bet you both made. You all laughed lightheartedly. Vander spoke to you and Silco: "So, how about you two? Do you want kids?" You thought for a moment. You would actually love to have them, but you weren't sure Silco would want them. If he didn't, it would be fine either way. Silco also thought about it sometimes, but he wasn't sure yet if he wanted them-at least not now.
You spoke up: "I actually would love to have them, but if Silco doesn't want them, I could live without them." Silco smiled sheepishly. "I'm not sure yet." Felicia spoke up. "You know, that's fine. You don't have to have kids, but I'm definitely curious what the outcome would be if you did." Same here, Vander spoke, smiling. You and Silco chuckled. You spoke, "Maybe one day."
After some time of just talking, you fell deep in thought for a moment. Heimerdinger could be of help. He's a very understanding and kind yordle. Maybe you could talk to him or at least show him how Zaun is down here. You actually went to his academy for a while, and he was your mentor, but that was long in the past.
Silco noticed your absentmindedness again. He smiles. "Darling, what is going on in that head of yours?" You gave a nervous chuckle. "You're not going to like the idea I have, so I'm just going to go." You started to slowly backing away to the exit. "Vander!" both Felicia and Silco said in unison. "On it," he replied.
You were just outside and walking away from the Last Drop when you felt yourself being slung over Vander's shoulder. Thinking to yourself, "I should have made a run for it," struggling wouldn't have made any difference, so you just accepted it. He walked back to the Last Drop and made it inside.
He placed you down in front of Silco, who immediately snaked his arms around your waist, preventing you from going anywhere. He spoke close to your ear, sending shivers down your spine. "Now, why did you run?" He definitely did that on purpose.
You sighed deeply. "Heimerdinger is an old mentor of mine and part of the council. He's a very kind and understanding yordle. He could be of help to us if I can somehow show him Zaun. Please, just let me try," you pleaded. At the end, they all had a silent conversation, eventually agreeing you could at least try. Silco held you a bit tighter and spoke, "You can try, but please take me with you." You smiled a bit in excitement, turned around in his arms, and gave a quick peck on the lips, saying, "Thank you, and of course I'll take you with me."
You turned back around to face Vander and Felicia, also saying thank you to them. Vander smiled. "But you do have to promise us that if this doesn't work out, we have to find another way." Felicia butted in as well. "Or at least try your mom again?" They knew about that. You asked your mom for help, but she would think about it. You spoke. "I promise. If this doesn't work out, I'll try something else. And I tried my mom. She said she would think about it, but I'm not sure if she is even thinking about it. But I'll try again for you guys."
They all chuckled. Vander said, "We know you will." You chuckled and asked Silco, "Would you mind coming to my house tomorrow? Then we can go to the academy." He held you tightly again and softly spoke, "Of course, darling." He whispered it again next to your ear, and it sent shivers down your spine again. Now you were definitely sure he did it on purpose. Vander and Felicia smiled inwardly, glad that you both had found each other. You and Silco were definitely a powerful couple.
