Chapter 47
Noah and I have been training for a week now.
During that time, I learned the art of sword fighting and self defense.
Though I'm not the best at them, I could say I'm pretty impressed by how quickly I improved from a shabby clueless girl who has no idea what the heck was going on to a girl who knows exactly what she's doing.
Now, walking down the hallway, I headed over to the door leading to the gardens.
Going to the gardens had become something that I do daily. Maybe its just because I enjoy the flowers and greenery there or maybe because of all the memories that I had there.
Either way, I loved the garden. Looking at the flowers and trees somehow calms me like looking at the stars.
I pushed open the metal doors like I always do and stepped outside into the daylight.
I shut the door behind me and began to walk through the fields of flowers.
I bent down next to a red rose bush as plucked a rose from it's place and held it up into the air.
I brought it back down and set it to my chest, cradling it in my hands.
I remained in that position until I heard a laugh from somewhere close by.
I strained myself to hear more.
Another laugh echoed through the air. A laugh that sounded like Caitlyn Ackerman's, my mom.
I slowly made my way over to where I heard the noise.
It was the same place where my mom last sang.
I hid behind the same tree that I hid behind before and peeked over the trunk, spotting four adults sitting sprawled out on the grass, Levi, my mom, Erwin, and Katrina.
I watched as Erwin passed out sandwiches to everyone from a basket that sat beside him.
They were having a picnic.
I don't know why, but I giggled quietly. I mean, who wouldn't laugh when they see their parents, especially one who glares and frowns a lot, laugh with their friends while having a picnic like little kids?
"I totally feel like the old times again," my mom said and bit into her sandwich.
"Yup, definitely the old times," Katrina agreed. "You wanna tag after this just like we did before?"
My mom laughed.
"No, duh!" she said, grinning. "I'm still going to win though! Just you guys watch!"
"You people are weird," my dad muttered, accepting a sandwich from Erwin.
"But I though you already knew..."y mom said, her smile still bright and sunny.
Levi glared.
"Which is why I'm not joining the game," he declared. "I am NOT going to play with a bunch of weird brats. We're too old for this crap. Get real."
My mom pouted.
"But I really looked forward to tackling you football style onto the ground!" she pouted.
Levi lowered his stare at my mom.
"No means no," he said with finality. "We're grown adults now. Not kids anymore."
Caitlyn giggled, her pout vanishing. My mom can't stay mad(never mid. She's rarely mad) for more than 10 seconds.
"We're never too old!" she announced and jumped onto Levi, bringing both of them tumbling onto the floor.
I tried to stifle in my giggles which was a really bad idea. The result was me standing there looking like a retarded seal.
But thank the gods none of them heard me. They were all laughing too much to notice that a pesky teenager was stalking them.
"Say yes!" my mom yelled, still clinging onto Levi. "Say yes and I'll get off!"
Levi twisted and turned, but no matter what he did, he couldn't shake my mom off.
"Fine!" he yelled. "I give up! Yes! Okay? Yes! Now get the fuck off of me!"
My mom laughed and stood up, getting off of my dad, a triumphant smile on her face.
"Good!" she said and clapped her hands. "Now let's finish lunch and then play!"
"You guys make a great couple," Katrina giggled. My mom grinned at her.
"Hehe! Thanks!" she said, smiling.
Levi remained laying on his spot, groaning and moaning.
My mom turned to look at him and set her hands on her hips.
"Oh, come on!" she urged. "You're not that old yet! Young might be beautiful, but old is sexy!"
If I wasn't secretly fangirling behind my tree, I would have spit and choke on my own saliva. My mom keeps getting weirder and weirder.
Erwin laughed.
"I'll have to agree with Katrina here," he said and grinned, draping an arm over his wife. "You guys sure look cute together."
Levi sat up and glared at him.
"Shut the hell up, Dumbwin," he muttered. "Go die."
That just caused all of them to burst into even more laughter. I was on the verge of exploding by now from all the laughter I'm trying to contain.
When my mom caught her breath, she asked,"Say, shouldn't we finish our lunch now?"
Katrina rubbed away her tears of laughter and agreed,"Yeah, we still have a game of tag, gang!"
"Uh-huh! We're teaming up on Levi like the old times!" Erwin put in.
The trio laughed and began to dig into their food, completely oblivious to the fact that my dad was sending them Hell's worst painful glare.
I smiled to myself and slowly backed away, careful not to make a sound.
When I was a good distance away, I turned around and walked back to the dorm, smiling like a fool.
Well, I thought. At least they made up to each other. Good to see that me and Noah's parents are friends again.
I set my hand on the knob of the door and was about to turn it and go inside when I suddenly felt someone watching me.
I froze, the hair on the back of my neck standing up.
I slowly turned around and looked at who it was. My eyes widened.
Demy stood before me, dressed in the clothes that se wore the day she died.
I felt time and space stopped just like that moment when I was running to Demy's dying form.
Demy smiled an held out her hand as if beckoning for me to go to her.
I took a step forward, but a gust of wind blew in, blowing her image away into the clear, blue sky.
I withdrew my hand and watched the place where Demy disappeared from.
A small smile found its way onto my lips.
You're still watching me aren't you? Even if you have left the world of the living, you spirit is still grasping on, staying with me, protecting me, and watching over me just like you had while you were alive.
Demy, where ever you are, I hope you're happy and have lots of friends.
