Chapter 37

From LKT,

Lauren Kutterfly has published her AOT Modern AU! fan fiction called My World Entwined in His. Now on Wattpad!

The Note Below Is From Lauren Kutterfly:

Hey guys!! So I received comments on Chapter 35 about my Rant. Guys, the rant is to tell people that you can criticize this book as much as you want, but I won't look twice at your comments. I only take Constructive Criticism. Constructive Criticism has a difference from Just Criticism. Constructive Criticism actually helps you improve your writing whereas Just Criticism damages a person's ego. Let's stay nice people.

And also, on my last author note, remember how I said I might either delay the next chapter or put it on hold? Well, thanks to three really great supporters of mine, I changed my mind. Instead of updating two chapters every week, I'll update one, but at least that's better than updating none right? I feel better now. Really, thank you @Akaluv, @Mathias2001, @Areuokbro, @Pookiewoo, @sdhe12, @themesongs, and a bunch more that I can't name. It's all in the back of my mind. You guys are all very awesome. Thank you for voting, commenting, fanning, and most important of all, for being the best friends I could ask for. Even though I don't know each and every one of you in real life(except for @sdhe12), I can tell already from just the Internet that you guys are really great friends. Thank you. If we do meet somehow in real life by some miracle(You wished Lauren!), I want to be your friend for real. Thank you for everything guys. Thank you for supporting me when I doubted myself. Thank you for being my friends even when I start becoming weird(ADHD). And no one get the feels. I just poured my heart into this passage. Now on with the story! <---trying in vain to get people happy and not cry

Warning! Short Chapter Follows. I made a longer chapter to make up for it...

Chapter 37

Demy held up her hands in defense.

"Wait!" She squeaked and almost yelled. "I can explain!"

I slowly lowered my sword.

"W-Who are you...?" I asked shakingly. Demy swallowed hard and kept her hands up to show me that she won't hurt me.

"I-I'll tell you, but first can we g-go inside? I don't feel safe talking out here," she stuttered.

I took a step back. Demy, my only friend, hid something from me.

I slowly nodded.

"Okay... but why inside?" I asked. Demy gulped nervously.

"You'll see," was all she said.

---------------------------------------------

Once inside my room, I sat down by Demy who was curled into a ball on my bed. She gently rocked herself back and forth.

"So... can you explain to me?" I asked.

Demy looked up at me, but then looked down again.

She took a deep breath and announced,"Karen, I'm an assassin."

I froze and slowly turned to look at her.

"What?" I asked, sure that I didn't hear right.

Demy took in a deep breath and continued,"I'm a trained assassin sworn to protect the Ackerman Family. Mistress Caitlyn and Master Levi put me in charge of protecting you. I've been watching over you ever since you came."

For once in my life, I was at lost for words. Trained Assassin to protect the Ackerman Family? Demy? No way. This can't be happening. It just can't. Demy can't be an assassin. She is my friend, my friend. Not some sworn protector.

Seeing my expression, Demy looked away.

"I'm sorry," she whispered, hints of tears welling up in her eyes draped over her voice. "I'm so sorry for not telling you sooner."

I couldn't do anything at the moment. Everything was happening too fast. I still can't wrap my mind around the fact that Demy, my harmless friend, is an assassin.

"How many people did you kill?" I asked softly.

Demy's breath hitched in her throat.

"N-No one so far," she choked out. "I'm only allowed to kill anyone who harms or threatens your family."

I turned to look at Demy.

"When did you become an assassin?" I asked curiously.

Demy sniffled a little and replied quietly,"I've been training to protect your family ever since I could remember."

I nodded and silence washed over us as I tried to process everything.

I'm an Animato with the Element Dark and Demy is a secret assassin trained to protect my family... Is there anything else I'm missing?

"Y-Young Mistress?" Demy squeaked.

I turned to look at her.

"Yes?" I said.

Demy gulped and asked softly in a desperate an hopeful tone,"Does this change anything? Are we still... f-friends...?"

I took one of her hands in mine and have her small smile.

"No, Demy," I told her softly. "This doesn't change a thing between us. I was shocked, that's all. We're still friends and will stay friends to the end. Nothing will change that fact."

A stray tear escaped Demy's eye.

"Y-you promise...?" Demy whispered.

I smiled.

"I promise," I confirmed.

Tears flowed down Demy's cheek. I pulled her close and hugged her as she cried into my chest.

"T-Thank you so much, Milady..." Demy cried. "T-Thank you... thank you..."

"Sh," I whispered. "It's alright. It's alright. We're friends to the end. I promise we are so don't cry. It's alright."

Demy clutched my blouse tightly and continued to sob uncontrollably into me. But I didn't mind. Demy is my friend no matter what. Who cares if she's a secret assassin? She's my friend regardless that fact.

This world holds many secrets whether it's cruel of full of happiness. But that's life. You always have some sort of secret hidden within you.

If Demy is to be my protector, then I will be hers. That's a promise of a life time.
