Chapter 31
I walked slowly down the hallway to my dad's office.
It was night time and everyone was asleep by now so no one was moving about. Only the moonlight that illuminated from the window told me that I wasn't alone.
I paused in front of Levi's office and took a deep breath before knocking softly.
"State your name and business," a voice grunted from inside.
"It's me, Father," I said through the door.
The door swung open and Levi appeared from behind it.
"What is it that you need, brat?" he asked, annoyed. "It's freaking 9pm right now. Go back to your dumb bed and have those weird dreams you kids have."
I rolled my eyes and said, choosing to ignore his comment,"I just came to tell you thank you for earlier. That's all."
Levi stared at me for a second. I could tell from just looking at him that he was deciding what to do with me. Send me back to bed or let me stay for a little while? Finally, he sighed and moved away from the door to let me in.
"Get in and tell me what's going on these days," he said. I walked in and took a seat at his desk. He sat across from me and crossed his arms.
"So...?" he pressed.
I looked down into my lap and began my story.
[Hello Readers! Alrighty! You're all about to see Karen's past now. Apparently one of my friends requested this so I had to put it in. I was gonna do it later in the story, but I thought that now would be a good time. Enjoy!]
I looked around myself, trying to find a spot to sit down, but everywhere was full. I was the only on left standing.
I clenched my lunch sack tightly in my hands and thought to myself, It's alright. It's okay. You're going to be fine. You'll find a spot to sit.
But no matter how much I tried to trick myself into believing, I felt tears stung my eyes and my mouth began to quaver. It was the same thing every time in each school I went to. I'm always alone.
It was my first day at Beverin Junior High and I'm already an outcast to everyone.
As I stood there amidst everyone trying not to cry, someone tapped my shoulder gently and asked in a kind voice,"Would you like to sit at our table?"
I whipped my head around quickly and saw a girl with strawberry blonde hair standing behind me with a smile.
My eyes widened a little because I thought it was going to be the same al over again: I'm never going to have friends. I'm going to be alone. Forever. I'll never get to know what the word 'happiness' feels like.
My mouth broke into a smile and I said,"Okay."
The girl wrapped an arm around my shoulders and walked me over to a table where all of her friends were.
I sat down beside her and a conversation immediately began. They asked me many questions such as who I am, where I came from, and what my favorite passing time is. We laughed and talked and laughed some more. Soon we all became friends. We were laughing and talking to each other like we were all long lost friends. It was blissful.
But the one person who I will always remain friends to is Cecilia, the girl who took me in that day. The girl who changed my life. They girl who showed me what 'happiness' finally feels like.
But what I didn't know that day was everything she told and shown me was all just a lie. After all, if you believe, you will be betrayed.
One day, Cecilia invite me to join her friends and her at Starbucks for coffee. I had agreed, oblivious to what was happening.
When I arrived at the shop, no one was there. Just me and the lady who works there. I looked all over the place, but never found them.
Just as I was about to give up, I got a text message from Cecilia. It contained the words that changed me into something that even I couldn't comprehend myself.
Cecilia: Haha. I tricked you. We were never at Starbucks. We're all at my house prank text you. This is your lesson. You will always be alone. No matter what. I never even liked you. I just pitied you that day when you stood alone in the cafeteria. Our friendship is over. Bye.
And just like that, my world came crashing down. My heart shattered into a million pieces, each shard piecing my mind. I couldn't believe it.
At first, I couldn't comprehend what was happening. Was I dreaming? Or is this... reality?
I remember sinking to my knees and just staring at my phone scene with a blank expression. I felt nothing back then. Absolutely nothing.
My mind was blank. My heart felt cold. My eyes seem to become empty without a care.
All of my hopes, dreams, and wishes came crashing down in just one day. Everything that I believed is gone. Gone as in forever and ever and... ever.
I can't trust anymore. But Demy is a different story. I'm sure... that through time and words... just one more time... I can learn the feeling of 'happiness' again... an emotion that I forgot right after I received it.
