Chapter 15

I laid on my bed as I replayed what happened just a minute ago.

He doesn't hate me... I thought. He never hated me...

There was tiny knock on my door. I sat up and called,"Come in, please."

The door creaked open and my mom slipped in. She looked around my room until she noticed me sitting on my bed, cross legged. She beamed and came over and sat next to me.

"Hey there, sweetheart," she said softly. "Is everything going alright?"

I looked down into my lap.

"I don't know," I said after a while. "What is the meaning of alright in all this?" I looked up and waved around the room. My mother sighed.

"I know it's hard to get used to, but please bare with me. It's already very hard with your dad. He needs to work everyday and run the family. Having a half anime and half real daughter is weirding him out as well. Please give him another chance," she said and reached for my hand. I let her take it and hold it between her fingers. This touch reminded me of when I was a toddler. My mom always did this when I was upset and alone.

"I will," I promised her and squeezed her hand. My mother squeezed back and pulled me into a tight hug.

"Thank you, Karen," she said and nuzzled her face into my cheeks. "Thank you."

I hugged her back and whispered,"I love you, Mom. You're the best I could ask for."

I couldn't see her facial expression, but I'm pretty sure she just smiled.

We stayed like that for the rest of the night, being there for each other like we used to. I miss those days where I was a normal teenager. I wonder if I'll ever lead a normal life again...

I drifted off into a deep slumber as the night passed by.

"Karen?" a voice said from beside me. "Karen! Rise and shine, honey!" I groaned and turned onto me side, my eyes slowly fluttering open.

I hated waking up in the mornings. It gives me headaches.

"Uhn...?" I groaned and pulled the covers over my head.

"2 more hours, please?" I moaned and tried to find sleep again.

"Not happening!" the voice chirped and flung the sheets off of me. Coldness filled my body. I curled up into a ball and shrieked,"Cold! Blanket! Where's my blanket?!"

My mom laughed. "Come one, sweetie. It's already 8:45 in the morning! Time to get up and start the day! Plus, your dad is waiting. I think he's mad right now for us being slow."

Hearing that, I shot up in my bed and hopped off. I ran to my wardrobe and pulled out a dress.

Without even bothering to see if it's pretty or a clown one again, I slipped into it and applied really quick make-up.

"Done!" I yelled triumphantly. "Let's go!" I beamed at my mom and saw something wrong. Her face was red with the laughter she's trying to hold back. Then she broke and let it lose.

"BWA HA HA HA!!," she laughed and rolled on the floor, clutching her stomachs tightly. "TRICKED YOU! IT'S NOT 8:45 IN THE MORNING!!" I stared at her. I couldn't believe it. Tricked by your own mom? Something is DEFINITELY off here.

I glared at her and huffed out,"Oh? If it ain't 8:45, what time is it?" My mom continued to laugh ridiculously, but she managed to stumble out,"I-It's... HAHA! 10:00 in the morning!!! Your dad is-" Her voice was cut short when the for banged open and Levi marched in.

"What took you brats so long? I was waiting for an hour for you brats to come down! Now I find you laughing your asses off here?!" Levi demanded angrily.

My mom, the idiot she was, stumbled over to my dad and placed a hand on his shoulder to try to stop her shaking from laughter.

"S-sorry 'bout that. We w-were having a little j-j-joke..." she gasped, tears of laughter filling her eyes.

Levi wrinkled his nose in disgust before ordering,"Well, get going, you idiots. We haven't got all damn day."

He headed to the door. Just before he went out, he turned slightly, enough to see me. He gave me a curt nod and was gone.

"Alright Karen," my mother said, finally calming down from that stupid joke. "Let's go."

I sighed and followed her out the room.

My life was finally begun. This is only the beginning though. I still haven't seen it all yet.
