Chapter 24: Plans

A day passed by and Robin became quite busy with work. She had to go over some papers that were being sent to her by Email, which required her to send her corrections in. There were so many waiting in her drafts that she noticed the passage of time only when her phone rang, which could have been either from her brother or Paige. But she picked it up when she gave up on the final paper. It was a message that she never thought would come.

"Hey! This is Ben Summers."

Robin was blushing and she couldn't believe it. Why was she blushing? She wasn't the type to blush, especially not over a message of all things. What was happening to her?

"Hey!" She sent.

"This message should have been sent a long time ago but hey, I'm not good at texting. Technology is my worst enemy."

Robin smirked. "Don't worry, you're doing great. Technology absolutely sucks. What's up?" She didn't know how to text him but she tried to be herself because that is what Paige had told her to do.

"I am at a little cafe in town and I was wondering if you wanted to start planning the wedding. This place reminded me of you and since coffee is our religion...."

Ben was indeed in the best cafe in New York. He was taking a stroll around after an easy day at work when his eyes laid upon the shop. He immediately thought about Robin because of their shared love for coffee, and also because the shop reminded him of the one the two of them had been to in Amsterdam. He did not think twice before texting her.

Robin's mouth fell open. Coffee was the magical word. "I don't have my guitar with me. So do not plan anything!" She brought humour in tough situations and this was definitely a tough situation.

Ben laughed heartily as he walked through the front doors of the shop. "Of course not." He texted her the address after she sent that she would be on her way, not being able to believe that she had agreed, but very glad that she did. He had his laptop with him and he knew that they had to get cracking right away.

Robin got dressed and got onto the cycle that she had rented for three months. She got the idea from her time in Amsterdam and loved that there was a shop nearby that would give her her wish. She drove down to the cafe and saw that it was the perfect little place for that shop. Walking through the door, she was met with the feeling of home. She looked around and saw the familiar hair of the best actor in the world. "Hey." She waved at him as she approached his table. "This is a great place."

"It seems perfect, doesn't it? They even have separate flavours for the coffees," he said. "Oh, please." Ben pointed to the chair opposite to his when he realised that he was being rude.

"Thank you," she said as she sat down. She noticed that he had his laptop open, which made her open her bag and pull out her laptop. When she saw Ben's perplexed expression, she resisted laughter and embarrassment. "My sister-in-law's wedding planner. I helped and did the background work."

"I see that we aren't that different then." He turned the laptop around for her to see.

"Candice Summers," she read. "Sister?"

"Yup."

They started talking after ordering and shared details about their managers. "So nothing pink then," said Robin.

"Karen despises pink when it comes to arrangements."

"That must be one of the things that they share in common then." She smiled, helping herself to a french fry. "Paige freaked out when I gifted her a soft pink pashmina for her birthday. She didn't even want to look at it. I was glad I had the receipt with me, otherwise I would have worn the gift I bought myself."

"What about you?" He asked. "What's your favourite colour?"

"Blue, probably." She loved all colours but navy blue, black and lavender were colours that made her feel safe. White was a comfort one. Lincoln told her that it was her colour, whatever he meant by that.

He smiled. "Ah, hence the name of your book."

"Well, it wasn't just that."

"Is there a story behind the name?"

"There is. But first, what's yours?"

"Black, probably," he said, taking a sip of his coffee. It had gotten luke warm in the time that the two of them had spent talking but he didn't seem to mind it. The sugar was working for him.

"Black suits you." Most of his photoshoots had him wear black. In fact, most of the characters that he played wore black and dark colours because of their mysterious natures.

Ben laughed. "It suits everyone."

Robin raised her glass in the air for a toast. "Cheers to that."

They decided on the cake first because that was the easiest of all the topics. Ben told her about a bakery that he found where they delivered cake in the perfect refrigerated condition on the day that it was needed. They didn't charge extra for it as well, which was a bonus, considering the time constraint that they had. "Their frosting is the best, and I don't even like frosting!"

"I'll take your word on it. I don't like frosting either and I trust you."

Ben smiled. They had a lot of things in common but he couldn't believe that they had that one too. They decided to talk to Karen and Paige about the dresses because they would have to decide the place where they would get them done. If they wanted off-the-rack, the two Honours could do nothing about it. But they were put on the hunt for the wedding dress immediately. They must have had some idea about it since it had been some time since the engagement.

"Oh, I remember that ad!" Robin exclaimed when he told her the name of the shop where he was going to get his suit tailored from. "My brother got his suit there and man, he loves it more than his own life." She laughed at how emotional Lincoln got whenever someone talked about the suit. What was it with men and suits?

"I get my suits there because they are very comfortable and they have the perfect fit. Mr. Tanaka is a family friend. I've known him since I was ten-years old."

They decided to think about the flowers once they decided about the location. "I'll send you a list tomorrow." Robin told him and then looked at the time. "Saints, is that the time?"

Ben smiled because of the first word that she used and looked closer at his laptop. It had been five hours since they had started planning but it was definitely worth it. They knew more about each other and about their friends. He pulled the collar of his shirt and something caught Robin's eyes. "Wait, you are....oh my-" She closed her mouth to keep herself from screaming.

"Oh boy," he realised when he saw that he was wearing the iconic necklace of a star pendant that was the symbol of the character that he was going to be playing in the TV show adaptation. "You've read-"

"Of course I have." She said in a monotonous tone. She had been reading Lee's latest book before she boarded the flight, and coincidentally, Karen had gotten the audition for the adaptation of that very series! That was the reason Ben was on the flight in the first place, but Robin wouldn't find that out just yet.

"Of course you have." He leaned forward in his seat so that the conversation was just between them. "Robin, it is sort of confidential. The casting is currently under progress and I can't talk about this. Nobody except for my family and Karen know about this and-"

"Oh my God!" She breathed out. Her heart was beating out of her chest and tears threatened to come out of her eyes. "They're making it into a...."

"Tv series." He revealed.

She gasped softly. "I don't believe this," she whispered. "It's happening? It's finally happening?" A huge smile spread across her face.

"It's happening, but it is confidential."

"My lips are sealed. I promise." She exhaled as she processed the information.

"I trust you." He wouldn't even question her if news about the show leaked out. There were other ways for it to come out and he trusted her.

"I mean, that series is my life right now! And to hear that....wow." She was getting lightheaded because of the lack of oxygen and so, she breathed a few times. "Lee is my favourite author. They are such a goddess! I've devoted my entire life to living up to their name. Shadowverse is such an inspiration that....the whole reason I write is because of her and....I'm sorry. I'm rambling."

"No, not at all! It is nice to hear you talk about it."

She sighed once more. "I won't tell anyone about this but thank you....for being honest." She promised. "Wow, I-I can't believe it."

"I know. We'll get back to the topic of favourites later but since you know that and this, can I know something about the movie?"

"Well...." It only seemed fair. But the fact that he compared her writing to her favourite authors' had her on top of the moon.

He had both his fingers crossed. "That sounds good?"

"They have approved it," cheered Ben silently. "But mine is not as confidential as yours. I mean, your news is....huge! It's a huge thing for the fandom!"

"Both the news are huge."

"Thank you." She smiled and wiped the ghost tears from her eyes. The thought of seeing her favourite characters on-screen was indeed the best wish that any fan, and writer, could receive.

"We are continuing the shoot here actually. I was supposed to come here next month but I'm glad I'm here earlier. But I cannot tell you anything more because-"

"Confidential." They said at the same time.

"Don't worry, Mr. Summers. I will not ask you more about this while we spend the next three months for this wedding. To the next three months." She toasted.

"And a friendship till the end."
