Leaving Them Behind

Everyone was too shocked to do anything. That is until Zeus started to begin his whole speech about interrupting a meeting of the gods. Fortunately, I noticed this and decided to step forward.

I walked forward until I knew I had everyone's attention, which happened to be when I got to the middle of the room. Bowing, I said, "Welcome, great Sadmep, what brings you to this not so humble meeting place?"

Sadmep was dressed in full armor, down to the helm with a dark blue plume. She carried a large broad sword on her back, it almost looked too big for her. Her long blonde hair poked out from underneath her helm, shining in all the light that came in through the huge windows.

"You, young Perseus," Sadmep said, her voice not losing its magical and echoey tone. "Your courage today and through out your life has impressed me to grant you passage off world."

I bowed again, something that must have shocked most of the gods since before now, I would not bow at all to the gods. "Thank you, Keeper Sadmep," I said respectfully. "When would you like to go?"

Sadmep raised a hand. "Call me Sadmep, Percy," I could see the laughing twinkle in her eyes as she said this. "We do not leave as of yet; say your good byes."

I nodded in gratitude as she turned to walk out of the room. I then turned back to the gods, who were staring at me. So I waited fro them to snap out of it. After a while, I started to grow increasingly uncomfortable with all the attention. The only ones who had snapped out of it was my mother, Hermes and Apollo.

Finally, I could not stand it anymore. "What?" I snapped my fingers in front of their faces. "Is there something on my face?"

Apollo burst out laughing and Hermes soon joined him. My mother chuckled as she shook her head, probably at my awesomeness.

When the gods broke out of their funk, Dad came up to me. "Son, are you really leaving?" he asked, tears forming in his eyes.

I nodded, looking him in the eye. "I am not getting any better staying here," I told him, looking at the rest of the gods to make sure they understood. "I am working myself to death, I have not had a break since I left camp. I have been living a half life."

My dad turned to my mom, probably to silently ask if it were true. She must have nodded or something because in the next second, I felt his arms around me again. I wasn't looking, I was still looking at the rest of the gods.

Suddenly, Zeus winced, put his hand to his head and gasped. "Guys, she's at it again," he announced. He took a deep breath. "It's a doodsey."

"Again?" Artemis asked, not really surprised. "What is this? The fourth time this week?"

Zeus nodded, rubbing his temples.

"What is it?" I asked, looking from Zeus to Artemis in confusion.

Silence.

Either they didn't want to tell me or they were afraid to. "What?"

"Thalia," Artemis supplied.

She didn't need to say anymore than that. I could figure out what was happening. "She's cursing me isn't she?" I asked.

Zeus nodded. "You and me for some reason," he confirmed.

Hera rolled her eyes. "You stopped her search for Percy," she told him.

Zeus looked confused. "But Percy is right here," he pointed to me.

I stared at the king of the gods, unable to believe what I was hearing.

"Percy," Hermes said, bringing everyone back on topic. "I would like to give you my blessing before you leave."

I stared at the god of travelers in surprise until I got an elbow in my ribs from my dad. I shook myself. "Um, yeah, sure," I said, mentally kicking myself. My mother laughed softly, stroking the fire.

Out of nowhere, a pale blue light surrounded me and I started to glow and a thousand different languages erupted in my mind.

"You can now speak any language you come across," Hermes said kindly, "and you will always know your way around."

I nodded appreciatively. I would need that in order to make sure I could get back home.

"Percy," a new voice hesitantly spoke up. "I would like to bless you as well, if I may."

I turned to the voice and looked at the goddess in surprise. "My lady?" I queried, asking why with out really saying the words. I didn't understand how her out of all the gods and goddesses would want to bless me.

"Please?" Athena pleaded, "Let me make up for my daughter's incompetence."

All I could think of was, 'Harsh' as I reluctantly nodded, staring at the wisdoms goddess wordlessly. The next thing I knew, I was surrounded by a gray light and I saw twenty different ways to escape the room if anyone decided to attack.

"You are now as smart as one of my children, if not smarter," Athena said, smiling a little at me gratefully.

There was a moment of awkward silence where I looked around at all the immortals in the room, trying to memorize the feeling of being welcomed. A feeling I had not felt since I last saw my mom alive. which, come to think about it was really sad. Not even camp treated me this way.

"I miss this," I muttered.

"Miss what Percy?" Poseidon questioned, looking at me curiously.

I looked at him, tears in my eyes. "Feeling loved," I answered quietly.

I wasn't sure anyone would hear me but I should have known; your senses are enhanced when you are a god.

"Is that what this is?" Aphrodite asked, looking at me with tears in her eyes as well. "If this is love, it is the purest I have come across in all my immortal life."

I nodded, agreeing with her completely. Even with my mom, I had felt something off. Now, with all these immortals around me, wanting to bless me in order to help and not just because I'm their favorite. It felt different.

Aphrodite seemed to make a decision. "Percy, I'm blessing you," she said. A pink glow surrounded me before I could protest. It merged with my aura and I had a feeling that it now looked like the northern lights, ever changing. "You now can summon any sort of disguise you need."

"Thank you," I said sincerely. I had a feeling I'd need it. "I'll miss you all." I went up to my father and Hestia, giving them each a hug.

"Perseus," Zeus said, his voice booming ominously.

"Percy."

"Percy," Zeus corrected with a sad smile, "I wish you well on your journey. May the fates be with you."

"That'd be a first," I snorted, causing the rest of the gods to laugh, "Farewell," I paused, hesitant but determined, "family." It was something I learned from the islanders of the Pacific. They said it to everyone but there was an underlying tone of affection whenever they said it. I felt it appropriate to apply the term now. Ironically, the gods were my family, not the campers. I had changed too much.

"Good bye, Percy," Hades said now. I had almost forgotten he was there. "I wish you well but before you go, take this," he handed me a large bag. I clinked when I grabbed it. "Drachmas are rare off world, you should be fine for however long you decide to stay away."

I nodded gratefully as Sadmep walked back in. "Perseus, if you want to go, we should leave now."

I looked at the gatekeeper, nodded and turned to the gods one last time. "Say good bye to Thalia and Nico, yeah?"

"We'll miss you Percy," Zeus said honestly the same time Hades grumbled, "Oh, sure, throw us under the bus and escape before you get murdered."

I laughed and followed Sadmep up into the courtyard. "Ready, Perseus?" the Keeper asked, still in that strange voice.

"Farewell Earth," I nodded just as a flash of light and thunder boomed, transporting us off the plant.

Once we arrived at where ever we were going, I stumbled, not expecting the sudden stop.

"For someone who traveled off planet for the first time, you sure don't look sick," a young girl's voice said.

"Yeah, well, having travelled via flames or water for them past couple years, you get used to it," I said, catching my balance. "Having shadow traveled helps too."

I looked up and see Sadmep but with her helmet off. She reminded me of an Apollo kid; really blue eyes and all. Her golden complexion threw me off and I thought I was looking at Will Solace's sister or something.

"Sadmep?" I asked,, surprised at the suddenly unveiled person in front of me.

"Yeah, sorry about all the dramatic stuff down there," she said, waving to a window to my left, "It's in the job description."

For some reason I stared at her, still not used to the fact that a girl who looked her age would have such a huge responsibility. She looked around twelve, yet power radiated off her like waves. Come to think of it, she reminded me of Artemis but looked more like Apollo instead.

Never mind, I'm over it.

"So what happens now?" I asked, looking around. We were in a large station like one of those space docks you see in Sci-Fi movies. Large windows surrounded us and Earth looked to be about the size of my fist Luminescent blue lights lit up the pathway out of the room we were in and along the walls.

Sadmep turned towards the doors out of the room. "I teach you about the world out there," she pointed to the right, at the endless space and stars beyond.

I shrugged. Made sense.

Back on Olympus:

"So how are we going to get in contact with him if we ever need his help?" Zeus asked.

"You really should have asked that before he left," Hera commented, face palming.

Hestia spoke up, "He has a necklace that allows me to contact him should we need to." She smiled at Poseidon reassuringly. "If you want I can replicate it onto any trinket you like so you can contact him. The only problem is, you can only use it once since he will soon be in a different solar system."

"Thank you Hestia," Poseidon said happily.

"Now the only thing left to do is to tell Thalia, Nico and the rest of camp," Dionysus commented as he took out his wine catalogue.

"Dionysus, why don't you tell the campers?" Poseidon asked innocently. "You are still camp director."

Dionysus sighed as he popped out of the throne room.

"Zeus, Artemis," Poseidon said, "why don't you both go tell Thalia together?"

Zeus grumbled something about who put Poseidon in charge before popping out of the room after Artemis.

"Hades?" Poseidon started, turning to the god of the Underworld.

"I know, I know," Hades sighed. "I'll go tell Nico."

"Marvelous!" Poseidon said. "Meeting adjourned."
