chapter 11
Two Hours Later...
Jay heard the footsteps of people walking towards his ward. They caught him gobbling the rice cake as if he haven't eaten for years.
Jay turned up to see who they were. It was Mrs. Williams, Doc. Alaide and Nurse Tina.
"Wow! I can see he is better now." Fijabi smiled.
Jay gazed at her with confusion as if he was his first time seeing her.
"Jacob, meet Mrs. Williams, the owner of this hospital." Rowdy introduced.
Jay turned to with the chicken's lap on his hand. He quickly jumped out of the bed, clinging himself to her legs.
"Thank you so much ma'am... Thanks a lot for saving my life."
Mrs. Williams held him up, cupping his face into her old, wrinkled palms. "No... There's no need for all these. In fact, I should be the one thanking you, you are a life saver, Jay." She took him to seat.
"So how is his health?"
"Since he has regained consciousness, We can discharge him any time soon, whenever you want, ma'am."
"Okay, thanks a lot Rowdy.I want to have a chat with him, Leave us alone." She ordered.
Nurse Tina left with some of the dirty plates in a big basket, following Doc. Alaide and the bodyguard while Jay returns to scoff the last piece of chicken left in his plate.
I would like to know more about you, Jacob. Today, I would have lost my 60 years old, diamond wedding ring, my ATM cards, Twelve of the most important documents I own and about Nine-fifty million dollars, if not for your bravery. Tell me about yourself."
Jay licked his fingers and washed his oily hands into the sink. Then he sat close to her.
"It's nothing ma'am... Just look at it like a destiny. You really saved me... From poverty, starvation, loneliness. These were my friends, my companions and my family. Tears gathered in his eyes.
"Tell me your story, my son." Mrs. Williams persuaded, already feeling pity for him
"As long as I can remember, my mom died during childbirth. And my dad owned a small bookshop, where he sold books and stationary. His name was Scott Bryson, He was very hardworking... A caring and loving man. After my mother's death, dad decided to train me to the best he could, No wonder he didn't remarry." Tears start to find it's way through is sad eyes. "My dad was my father and mother, he wanted the best for me... Until the unfortunate incident happened."
He stopped, almost chocking in his own tears.
"What happened, my son?" Fijabi asked in concern, tears were already building in her eyes.
A gang of robbers shot my dad on his way from work one evening. That was the last time I witnesses happiness. Like became difficult for me... I was only 9 years old. Accepting my destiny, I manged the store... Just to live, Just to survive."
When I was 12, I was robbed again in that same shop. All the money I lend, the money I've saved, everything disappeared with those miserable theives. I managed to complete my 6th grade (Primary 6), After which I couldn't sponsor myself. Life became hell for me... To eat, to live. I started doing more jobs in the market, I lost my direction in life until the fortunate incident happened."
"What was it, Jay?" She let it a tiny smile, wiping away his tears with the back of is hands.
"Until today, when you saved my life. I haven't eaten for about seven days now. Sometimes, I stay for about ten days... Sometimes, two to three days. It depend on how much work I get.As it is ma'am,You know... Everyday's not Christmas."
"Jacob, your story is really sad and touchy, I must say... I can't imagine how much you must have gone through, But I would love to ask you a favor."
"A favor?" Jay furrowed an eyebrow, thinking of what it could be.
"Yes, a favor and I would be so happy if you would say yes." She paused for a moment and then continued."I would be so happy if you would follow me my son."
"What? Your S..son?"
Yes, my son.
"Okay, I would but pardon me ma'am. Don't you have children?"
A small smile find it's way through Fijabi's face.
Of course, I had a son. He was so cute and hardworking just like my husband, Adeola Williams. It was thre years after our marriage when I lost my husband on a plane crash. I was left alone with my only child Fredrick Olamide Williams. He died a long time ago... It's about 18 years ago.
"Oh, I'm so sorry ma for the loss. What happened to him?"
"He got addicted to drugs and I was the cause. He was one of the best doctors in the country then."
Tears gathered again in her sad eyes. He got married and had three kids out of which his last son was adopted. If not for death, Fred's first son would have been your age mate or so."
"Really? What happened to them?"
"My daughter-in-law, Elizabeth and two of her children... Jacob and Jasmine died in a car accident which was also my fault. Although, Jasmine was saved, Fred unconsciously abandoned her somewhere in the forest when she was only five. Only God knows where she is right now but I hope she's still alive, somewhere... In fact, I hired private investigators to search for her all over the country. She's still nowhere to be found. My hope is that one day, I would meet Jasmine before I leave this earth."
"Oh My... What a world? I wish you would see your grand daughter... Ma, you said your first grand son was Jacob?"
"Yes, we called him Jacob. He has the same name with you."
"What a coincidence?I really wish he was alive... I would have a name~cee, a friend and a brother."
"Don't worry, you and Joel would get to know each other."
"Is he your adopted grand son?"
"Yes, he is. He traveled to India for a kidney transplant a week ago. He should be back before next month."
Jacob, do you say yes to my favor?
"Yes ma, perhaps you can call me Jay."
"Children of nowadays..." She mumbled. "Perhaps you can call me grandma."
"Okay grandma."
"Get up, let me take you home, I'm sure with time you would know how things work." She said, grabbing his left arm.
They walked outside and entered the one of the cars out of the four packed outside. Mrs. Williams introduced her new grandson to all the workers.
"This is your new boss, Mr. Jacob Scott Williams." She smiled at him as she called the last word WILLIAMS. It's the names she has just given him and Jay too was happy at the sound of that.
"Make sure you obey and give him all your love and respect. He might come to check on you whenever I'm busy or when I'm out of the country."
"Yes, ma'am..." The workers chorused and bowed their heads in unison.

Author's Note (Important, Please)
Jacob knows Mrs. Fijabi Maria Williams only on internet. He knows about her net worth and decided to fraud the woman based on her old age. Well, the starvation and others were real... Just to set a trap to get into her heart and it was easy.
